Very cool! May his number of takeoffs always equal his landings.

Bless your son for being a good man who serves his country. I wish him success and happiness in his new calling. :)

Congratulations to you, first, for raising a young man in such a way he KNEW he could accomplish anything he set his mind to. Then, congratulations to your son for setting a high bar for himself and then reaching it.

That's what good parenting looks like. Thank him for all of us.

Good for him!
Hope you get a photo of his classmates tossing him into the solo dunk tank, as well as a full account of what it felt like when his IP hopped out and sent him on his way...

BTW, was this at IFT at Pueblo, or in a T-6 at UPT?
If it's Pueblo, disregard the dunk tank, but I probably know his IP, and there will probably be an iPhone hero shot for him to send you.

Again,
Good for your son - it's quite a landmark achievement in his life.

Congrats! My one regret is not pursuing the military aviation route. Any plans on platform preferences at this point?

When I was a child my greatest desire was to be a pilot, likely starting in the USAF. Unfortunately, my eyesight ruled that out in later years, and I've been unable to afford private lessons for civil aviation. Wish your son the best from those of us who wish we'd been able to do the same thing as him.

My son is talking about wanting to fly heavies. He says heavies is the most likely path to test pilot and test pilot is the most likely path to astronaut

At a joint services safety brief, the speaker asked a representative from the Army, Navy Marines and the Air Force "what would you do if you found a scorpion in your tent?".

The Army PFC said, "I'd step on it."

The Marine said, "I would crush it with the heel of my boot."

The Navy SEAL said, "I'd smash it with my bottle of hair gel, cut off its tail and eat it."

Then Air Force wingnut said, "I would call room service, tell them to take it away, and ask why is there a tent in my hotel room?".

;)

Seriously though, A big congrats to your son. That has to make you very proud!

My son told me yesterday that he's not sure if he wants to fly something "fast & pointy" or "heavy and long range". He told me that he's been hearing either one is the best path, depending on who you talk to.

His immediate goal is to be good enough to graduate to the T-38. T-38 training traditionally leads to flying fighters & bombers, but he would still have the option of flying heavies. Pilots that go on to train in the T1 only go to heavies. He said it's harder to go to T-38s, so that's his goal. His accomplishments prove he's got the drive to succeed at whatever be sets his mind to.

Him and his brother both are two of the finest men I've had the honor to know

....and, yes. I would want to know why there is a tent in my room

Update- Our pilot-in-training (my youngest son) has just started his instrument training. He has surpassed me and there's nothing more I can do for him except cheer him on. It's a bitter sweet moment for a father when he realizes his son doesn't need him anymore. But I'm proud of his independence.

My oldest son just made Staff Sergeant (E-5) and is reenlisting in the Air Force. He's in a critical field and will be getting a good bonus. He too, has surpassed me. Again, all I can do is proudly cheer him on.

Now, if I can only get them to marry good girls and bring me a couple of grand kids to spoil!

(Yes, I'm a proud papa and a happy man)
