Dear Sense-of-Balance-in-the-Universe:

After the catastrophe that was 2016, you fucking owe us this being a decent movie.

Love,

Chance

Excellent! Didn't realize this was coming out. My wife will be ecstatic. The original was one of her favorite all time movies. I'm a fan as well.

I also loved the original. Expectations are going to be sky high in sci fi land for this one.

I was introduced to this film by my sci-fi teacher back in the 80s.

Man, that doesn't seem like it was all that long ago.

The sequel had better be good. I'm not going to hold my breath and turn blue if it's not, but I shall be very displeased.

This is one of the very few times you will hear me say this but the movie was far better than the book

Philip Dick had an amazing imagination that needed tempering by an editor/collaborator who wasn't just freaking high as a kite on amphetamines.

Has anything official stated which version of Blade Runner (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Versions_of_Blade_Runner) this is a sequel to? There are significant differences between the 'original' theatrical release and the various Director's cuts (arguably the 2007 'Final Cut' is the last word)...

Amen to that. IMO his novels were fairly mediocre, his short stories much better (well, some of them).

I guess I'll have to watch the original again. I can't remember being real impressed with it.

It's highly symbolic. If you just watch it for plot, there isnt a ton there. It is a kind of a snob sci fi movie to a degree. The Roy Batty soliloquoy is one of the finest moments I have ever seen in film if you get what he is saying (brings a tear to my eye every time I see it - like tears, in rain ;) )

That was improvised by Rutger Hauer, supposedly.

I get why they're making a second one, but Blade Runner to me is one of those movies that should have ideally been left alone. It stands as its own little masterpiece of cinema, and I"d hate for this movie to turn out crappy and clutter that reputation up.

It has always been interesting to me that a director I would otherwise characterize as mediocre and self infatuated has made two of my ten favorite movies, including #1.

Actually, a lot of my favorite movies were made by directors I would categorize as mediocre and self infatuated: George Lucas (Star Wars EpIV), Billy Friedkin (French Connection), James Cameron (Aliens, Terminator & T2), and Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner).

and Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner).

I would also toss in Black Hawk Down and Kingdom of Heaven.

So, BladeRunner is a pretty good flick? One should check it out if they hadn't seen it?

Which one? The original, the directors cut or the final cut?

The FC, because the narration sucks a lot.

If you do, bring it on BluRay.

So watch the final cut?

If you're going to pick one, I'd watch The Final Cut.

I will say contrasting the Theatrical Cut with the Director's Cut/Final Cut is interesting; the changes are significant.

My favorite thing about the teaser trailer was the Vangelis musical cues. (I'm a big fan of the soundtrack to Blade Runner).
