A few weeks ago we bought a new Gen 3 Glock 17 at a local gun store. It was intended to replace my wife Susan's aging Gen 2. Serial no. is RVAXXX and the cartridge case is marked 06/13/11. It has the dip extractor.
I worked a little trigger magic, replaced the sights and she started shooting it. After a few stovepipes she decided she would continue to shoot her old Gen 2. :) Her Gen 2 probably had about 50,000 rounds through it when the slide cracked down through the ejection port. Glock, at no charge, replaced everything except the barrel and frame. That was about 3 years ago and she has shot a march nearly every weekend through the season since plus practice.
I decided to see what I could do with the Gen 3. I replaced the extractor with an old 90 degree extractor I had in my spare parts. I used the correct spring loaded bearing. So far 700 rounds with no problems. Ejection is to the side with the brass landing from 3 to 6 feet to my right from about 3 o'clock to about 5 o'clock.
I'll continue to shoot the Gen 3 through the winter to see how it does.
