A few weeks ago we bought a new Gen 3 Glock 17 at a local gun store. It was intended to replace my wife Susan's aging Gen 2. Serial no. is RVAXXX and the cartridge case is marked 06/13/11. It has the dip extractor.

I worked a little trigger magic, replaced the sights and she started shooting it. After a few stovepipes she decided she would continue to shoot her old Gen 2. :) Her Gen 2 probably had about 50,000 rounds through it when the slide cracked down through the ejection port. Glock, at no charge, replaced everything except the barrel and frame. That was about 3 years ago and she has shot a march nearly every weekend through the season since plus practice.

I decided to see what I could do with the Gen 3. I replaced the extractor with an old 90 degree extractor I had in my spare parts. I used the correct spring loaded bearing. So far 700 rounds with no problems. Ejection is to the side with the brass landing from 3 to 6 feet to my right from about 3 o'clock to about 5 o'clock.

I'll continue to shoot the Gen 3 through the winter to see how it does.

I ran an old 90 degree extractor in my Gen4 G17 for a few hundred rounds after having some stovepipes and erratic ejections to the face. It worked pretty well. I did have a single stovepipe thru the 400 or so rounds I put thru it with that extractor. I ended up replacing it with a older non-dip cut Gen-3 LCI extractor which has been working perfectly in my gun so far.

I tried one in my Gen4 G17 and had a number of stovepipes. I took it out after <200 rounds.

I now have around 1500 trouble free rounds through this G-17. I'll keep shooting. ;)
