Serial the podcast did a season on this. It was an interesting case to listen to and can't say that it changed my mind, he deserves a trial and the outcome that follows it. You don't just walk away from your brothers, that's unforgivable

Based on his whiny letters before deserting the guy was a fucking looney at best. Time to own up for your actions, no need to cower behind a pardon.

You want a pardon? We'll have it ready in just a bit.

And to help pass the time, why don't you lean against this wooden post while you smoke a cigarette. And here's a blindfold to keep the sun out of your eyes, too.

At most he'll get a BCD, reduction to E1 and forfeiture of all pay and allowances. In 5 years he'll be working in a 7-11 somewhere and no one will even remember his name

What does Extortion 17 have to do with Bergdahl?

I am great with pardoning him.....and then deport his ass back to Afghanistan as a refugee from the US.

What does Extortion 17 have to do with Bergdahl?

Extortion 17 was a QRF force, going to help some Rangers that needed help. Bergdahl was believed to be helping the Taliban with US TTPs. They shot down the QRF. US casualties increased in that sector after he got "captured". It is widely believed he was instructing the Taliban.

I am pretty familiar with Extortion 17. Connecting it to Bergdahl is a new one.

SGT Bergdahl can't be pardoned until he's been tried, convicted, and sentenced. At the rate the Army has been dragging its feet, Mr. Trump will be in office and SGT Bergdahl's prospects will be dim at best. And I'm fine with that.

Not true. Richard Milhouse Nixon was pardoned without even being indicted.

Why are pardons even a thing? Why do we allow the president the magical kingly ability to selectively ignore our laws and bypass responsibility?

I would give Bergdahl a pardon.

Right after the execution.

Why no love for the prison lottery? It's like you want felons to pay for their crimes or something. Fairness is so not fair.

Yup. He was tested, and he failed. He has to live the rest of his miserable, pathetic life knowing, deep down, that he's not only a traitor, but a coward. I do hope that upon conviction that the judge isn't lenient.
