Been looking for another 9mm target $500~$1000. The ones that seem to appeal are Walther PPQ, Glock G34 & FN FNS9 Longslide. I know some have better triggers or are more popular than others, I am just looking for something that I can shoot well. I have handled each and they all have there own special appeal so help me choose or maybe recommend something all together different.
What do you want to do with this pistol?
When you say Target Pistol, I assume better than average accuracy. Sig P210 (above your listed price range), HK USP Expert (close to your range) would be my top two choices, with the Expert getting the nod for my use and interests.
Even a stock 226/P30 should be pretty accurate, but not designed for target shooting. Of course a P7 would be tough to beat as well.

To start an immediate potential thread drift - are you focused on striker fired only? For example, when faced with this recently, I bought a Springfield Armory Range Officer 1911 9mm (used). Based on the OP - the G34 has much support and much is already known about its pro and con.
Probably the most accurate pistols in that range are the Grandpower Xcalibur, Sig P226, Beretta 92 series, and HK DA/SA (pick whichever). I say "probably" because it's almost impossible to know for sure.
The Grandpower is the best deal going ATM. You are looking at 1.5" groups, target sights, and a fantastic trigger all from the factory. The only reason I don't shoot it a lot more is because it's finicky on ammo and there are few IWB holster options available. I like to carry my competition gun, so it was easier for me to get a Sig P226 Legion and get Burke to do an action job on it. If this gun is just for the range or action shooting, id recommend the Xcalibur.

Another question is whether or not you want to use it for uspsa. If you haven't considered uspsa then you should and then pick accordingly.

Friendly target shooting, mostly with my wife who is a better shot so I need the advantage. We shoot steel average 25-30 yards.

Xcalibir... similar to the CZ, EAA?

How well can you group at 25 yards with the current pistols? Any pistol should be capable of ringing steel of typical 8" size at the distances you mentioned (except maybe the M&P9 FS).

SLG hit the nail on the head; Sig P210 is a classic, HK USP expert is nice, Glock 34 is a solid initial choice--especially for USPSA.
For pure National Match Bullseye, then an accurized M9:

Get your 92 with a barrel bushing and weight installed.

I have no idea about the Dan Wesson, but the 92 is known for being accurate. I'd look long and hard at ammo sensitivity and shooter technique.

This.
It would be hard to suggest anything more accurate and easy to shoot well than your current guns without going well outside your price range.

I took this post as he just wanted a new toy, not that his pistols now aren't accurate enough. Could be wrong though.

Bingo! It's time for something different.

I'd suggest a CZ 75 SAO or SP-01.
It's more expensive than what you have listed but I've long wanted a S&W 952.

For a pure target pistol, I'd buy the nicest 9mm 1911 that fits your budget. Run it until you find what you "need" to change, then save up for the tweaks.

If you want a polymer 9MM that's a little more exotic and target oriented then you could go PPQ Q5 Match. I imagine it could keep up with most of the choices mentioned in this thread.
If you have a Dan Wesson 1911 I wouldn't think you can get anymore of an accurate gun for under $1000?

Always knew they were accurate but didn't realize the full potential.
Everyone I know in bullseye circles with a 9mm all use accurized M9s. 1.5" at 50 yards in some cases.
I was happy last week with a 1.75" group at 25 freestyle with my Sig P226 . For me with a lot of time in action matches, the bullseye shooters blow me away with their accuracy. Very impressive.
I'm now lusting after that NM M9 that Doc posted. I've always been an accuracy first kind of guy but as I get older, I find the absolute ability to hit, anything at any range, way more interesting that blinding speed on some targets at some range.
Surely they're not using 882 though?

I know nothing about them either but it was the first link when doing a Google search for "beretta m9 national match". I'm kind of content with how well my $450 CZ 75B SAO shot out of the box.

Copy. I have no shortage of accurate guns, but a purpose built NM gun (1.5" at 50) is pretty awesome. One of my academy instructors many years ago was a national champion service rifle guy. Those weighted AR's are just silly, but getting to shoot it was pretty awesome.
The most accurate 1911 I ever shot was a prewar National Match Colt. Shooting targets (or Coke cans) at 25 meters was like cheating.
Given the inherent accuracy of the Beretta design, I'd think a well-built NM M9 would be awesome--if (and only if) part of the work included a trigger job. The normal DA pull on a M9 (heavy, but inconsistent as it cycles between heavier and lighter during the pull, as well as gritty) makes precision on a DA shot unnecessarily difficult.
I have a Wilson Brig Tac with a very smooth Wilson trigger job and I think a quality NM M9 would need something like that.

That company has a great reputation amongst bullseye/CMP people. I may pick one up

If anyone here is interested in picking up a match accurized Beretta, I would recommend considering David Sams. Retired Master Sargeant and AMU gunsmith. He's the guy who actually developed the techniques to accurize the M9 when the AMU shifted to shooting it in competition. Very well respected and I found him really easy to work with (built a 1911):

I've been lusting over a super accurate pistol for some time since Aray and I dealt with some really atrocious M&P's that wouldn't hold the -1 at 25y. Since then I've toyed with some random guns and always felt the need to have *a* gun that would be an emotional support type gun by way of it being capable of shooting a group worth talking about.

Not gonna get much help with these short and vague posts.
Is Bob Kolesar a member here? He had a post on another forum detailing his bullseye M9. This article basically covered his post, but unfortunately the picture links are broken.

If you just want to change things up for the sake of change, look at the S&W 929 or 986.

Wow, I didn't know of Tony Kidd's background with the AMU.
Pro Tip: If you stumble upon an old webpage with broken images, do a search for Wayback Machine and paste the link. It's pretty much an "internet archive" and saves past pages for your current viewing pleasure.

AMU shooter shot it in top 10 last year at Presidents 100 at Perry.
Just needs the trigger kit and it's a nice shooter.

An AMU gun and an OTS gun plus upgrades are still two very, very different things.
Especially for a XD.
