If I hadn't just bought football tickets for Christmas Eve, I'd have money to do this.

So, um... "World Championship" is something of a joke because it will also be the only match of its type this year. I considered calling it the Pan-Galactic Championship.

It's going to be about five stages and fifty rounds. Fun for folks who live nearby, probably not worth the trek for anyone more than an hour or two away. The fact that you'll begin and end the entire match within 60 minutes is a clue.

We might have two in our squad...........maybe........depends on where we plan to spend the week, mine or hers. If it's mine, we're out. But if move to hers.......pretty safe to say we would be in.

I kind of guessed that the title was tongue in cheek, but it would be fun to shoot. And you should change the name to Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Pistol Destiny.

Will sadly be in Texas hunting the fierce and elusive wild dove instead of the fierce and elusive wild steel and paper.
Woe is me.

I'm more of a somewhat slightly tactical guy.

Kinda sorta tactical is way too in tents.

The 60-minute thing is awesome. I'll be on vacation for this one, but I may find an excuse to be in NoVa for the next one.

We need a couple of volunteers who can give up a Tuesday afternoon to help us set up the stages. Anyone?

I just won't know until a week out, my work schedule changes too much. If I'm free I'll help.

Important detail: You must call the NRA Range to register for the match. They will begin taking registrations at 9am this coming Monday. There are only thirty available slots.

beastfrog if you're going to be able to help us with the setup (which begins at 11am) then you don't need to worry about registering. The setup crew will shoot the match at 4pm before the doors open.

Reminder: sign-ups have begun for the match. There are only 30 available slots and historically action pistol matches at the NRA fill up within a few days. If you haven't signed up yet and want a slot before the random guy who sees a flyer at the range, better get on it.

Call 703-267-1402 to register.

cdunn -- I think we're good on set up. We do need to rope some folks in for the 9pm squad because they're going to get volunteered as the tear down squad.

The match is full and the NRA Range is now keeping a waiting list.

Tom Ives and I worked out the courses of fire last night. If everything goes according to plan once we start the actual build, minimum round count will be 60.

Classification Results:

We also had two people who showed up to shoot with illegal equipment who were listed as "SWS" (Shot Without Score), and one person who was DQ'd. Sorry for the crappy jpg version of the results, I could not for the life of me figure out an easy way to convert a spreadsheet to an HTML table for the forum software.

Next time I'll bring a wheelgun with SIX shots instead of five. 20% more gun. And it'll have grips that work with speedloaders. Yeah, that's the ticket...

Thanks for running the match, and thanks to the NRA for hosting it. I had lots of fun tonight.

ToddG
12-28-2011, 02:27 AM
For folks who didn't understand what kle just said... he came and shot the whole match with his J-frame and speed strips from his jacket pocket. Why? Because that's what he carries. Thanks for keeping to the spirit of the game, kle!

----------

Here are the match stages.

Stage 1, Dark House
Shooter begins seated, table on strong side. Pistol is on table, chamber empty but magazine inserted. On the buzzer, engage threat targets. Best two on each except for the last target which requires six rounds.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQr6nf4prug

Stage 2, Backing Away
Shooter begins hemmed in on three sides by threats. On the buzzer, draw and fire 2 body plus 1 head (in any order, per KSTG rules) on each target while backing up. At a certain distance, shooter can stop moving.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ou0GjvPkUzA

Stage 3, Swingers
Shooter begins lined up with space in wall beyond which there is a Pepper popper. On buzzer, draw and knock over the popper which activates two swingers. To the right, a threat target swings in front of two non-threats. To the left, a non-threat swings in front of two threats. Best two on paper count.

Stage 4, Classifier
This is the F.A.S.T. drill shot three times for an aggregate score.

I really think the Staff should consider changing the "rules" a little bit.

"Barrel: 5 inches maximum, no porting or compensators allowed."

the glock 34 is widely used in USPSA and is my personal concealed gun. So I suppose I can never enter this competition unless I buy another gun.

maybe 5.5"?

we're putting limitations on everything.

Why not put out a "production" list guns?

You said last night that SERPA holsters are not allowed. Got a list of what is?

ToddG

the glock 34 ...

There is a very long discussion about this issue on the main KSTG thread (pistol-forum.com/kstg).

You said last night that SERPA holsters are not allowed. Got a list of what is?

The rulebook is pretty straightforward about it. However, the rulebook was changed just before the match, which is why we allowed folks to shoot with SERPAs last night. If you get the latest version (also available at the above link), it should be quite clear.

Todd, thanks for organizing a fun match last night. It has been far too long since there has been a match at the NRA Range, and I was very happy to participate. I hope that there will be more matches in 2012. Happy New Year!

Fun match, although I shot sloppy as all hell. KSTG is a little out of my usual IPSC/Steel no-concealment comfort zone. Still, I had a good time, and I'll be back for the next one.

Thanks for a great match! Can't wait for the next one to see if I get it together or if I was secretly lobotomized since AFHF. Appreciate the pointer at the end -- I'll work on that.

Here's to KSTG becoming a regular event!
