Does anyone have any serious time abusing these WML's? I know Frank Proctor has beat the everloving shit out of a Protac 1L for the past couple of years. That doesn't mean a sample of 1 is all that great, or that these are the same as that, but it does make me take notice of the brand. Thoughts/experiences?

I'm currently rocking the rail mount 2 on my 1301. So far so good with all types of loads.
The beam has a little more diffusion than the Surefire scout, which for a shotgun, is perfect as I'm not needing the same amount of throw that I need on a carbine light.
I just wish they would come out with a combo pressure pad / manual switch tailcap.... or at least have a replaceable tape switch vs the switch being permanently fixed to the tailcap.

I've got the Rail Mount 1 on an AR15. I've shot about 500 rounds with it on, and so far so good. I think it puts out more light than the lumen rating would have you believe. Nice and lightweight too.

What's the clicky switch like on these? Is it easy to blow past momentary on, or does it require a deliberate push?

This method works for me. I have most of my thumb pushing on the rim of the button, which is enough to turn it on momentary, but it keeps my thumb from pushing all the way through to the click of constant on.

Running one with the Proctor mount. Another soon with the Thorntail SBR. No issues yet on the first. Its a great, lightweight minimalist set up.

Streamlight is good to go.
I'd suggest taking a look at Arisaka Defense as well, they make some seriously good light related stuff.

There are reported problems plus the tape switch is horrible at best and as such I've chosen not to jump on that train. I'll pay a little more for a SF Fury......buy once, cry once.

What kind of reported problems?

Just do a search but some have reported the light flickers under recoil.

Any updates on how they are working? I've been looking at buying a surefire scout for a 1301.

I've thought about putting one of the Streamlight Rail Mount Lights on my shotgun, but haven't yet. Could you let us know how it turns out if you go that route?

Right now it looks like whatever light I choose will go on a nordic clamp.

I had just about decided on a Rail Mount 2 for my carbine when the Rail Mount HL-X was announced:

That big ol' knob on the side of the mount, that isn't by any chance reversible is it? The positioning of that knob as shown in typical product pictures is a tad less than optimal for mounting the light on the right side of the gun...

Okay then, that just might have changed my plans on a carbine light as well. So now we're on plan... C? D? Something along those lines. :p

I'd have to check mine, but I think you can remove the mount from the light, spin it 180*, and then screw it back on. Which would effectively change which side the knob was on.

And out of curiosity, are you a knobs up or knobs down kind of guy? (and why?)
Phrasing!! :p

Soon as I can, I'm getting two of those for a couple rifles. Since everything I've got (with the exception of X300 WMLs) is going to 14500/18650, I'm ecstatic that Streamlight is putting out an 18650 capable WML.

Knobs up for me. I have a Midwest Industries front sight block mount that doesn't quite fit onto the rifle at the same time as my Magpul MOE SL handguard. So I'll be filing a part of that handguard off. How much filing will be necessary will be determined by how big of a footprint the light I'll mount on the rifle will have on the right / downwards facing side of the light.
Besides, it will be much easier to turn the knob if it's facing away from the handguard and not towards it. :)

So I took a look at the mount, and it doesn't look like you can swap the knob side it with their provided hardware. If you can see the right angle on the left and the 45 angle on the right, there is no doing it.
BUT!!! There are those screw holes in the middle, so in theory there might be some other mount out there that could work. The likelihood of that is pretty low though.
Sorry man. :(

@Dropkick - can the tail cap be switched with the bezel?
Afaik, all yhe rail mountd use the same screw hole pattern as the scouts, so any mount should work. Once my HL X arrives, I'll confirm.

Kyle Defoors afaik uses them exclusively on all of his rifles.

for what it's worth, I've carried a 1L for a good six months and it got beat to crap, dropped it a bunch of times, submerged it in water even more, washed it 1 or 2 times in the washing machine/dryer and it still functions. I have never used it on a rifle but it has some moisture still in the lens and is permanently stuck on the high lumen mode. I EDC a 1L-1AA now.
Streamlight is good to go.

+1 on this. I have their M300 and while I wish I got the M600 instead, it's a great light.

Thank you for taking the time to take that picture! It does unfortunately look like that knob might be seriously in the way if I were to try mounting it on the right hand side of the rifle. But it is much better to know it now and not after buying one of those lights and getting it shipped over and thru customs.
So, I am faced with a choice; either mount it on the left side and mount the pressure switch somehow to the top of the handguard, or find a different light. (Or a different mount, but Streamlight + shipping + customs fees + taxes + Scout mount + shipping + custom fees + taxes... Gets expensive when you add everything up. Might as well just buy a Surefire X300U locally at that point, probably.) If it weren't for my distrust of pressure switches the first option would actually sound pretty nice... I'll have to think some more about this.

I made a setup for a buddies rifle to top mount a Surefire SR07 pressure switch onto a Magpul SL handguard using a heavily modified Magpul poly 11-slot rail section. He mounted the Scout light using a Magpul Cantilever on the ejection port side of the handguard. Works great. I don't have any pictures, but if you want, I could sketch out what I did.

So I have been searching for a good light to use on my hunting gun, a 12.5" 6.8 SBR. The primary use will be low/no light hog hunting outdoors. I'd like to be able to light up and easily ID out to 100 yards through my LPV
I have a SLR solo rail with a short rail section at 9 o'clock at the end of the rail. Would this Protac with a Gear Sector Scout mount work well and be a good choice?
Could I get away with the smaller one at 350 lumens or should I just get the bigger one?
Is there a wiser way to spend my $160ish given my needs? Seems like this Protac is a pretty good light for the dollars.

I have the game specific light from streamlight. Green beam. Does not disturb most game, and is good for a couple hundred yards through my scope. Big bezel, but lightweight and very effective. Comes with a pressure switch as well.

I ordered a Protac 2 to try it out. Mounted up nice and solid in a Gear Sector scout mount. We'll see how it holds up, looks real solid!
