The correct name - in case people want to google it is a "valet tray (https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=as_li_ss_tl?field-keywords=valet+tray)."

When you guys get home and unload, throwing all the stuff out of your pockets, what do you put it all in? Including your edc pistol / holster / mag / etc?

I usually just throw everything into a drawer...but I'd like something that I can put on top of a desk or dresser that looks nice.

One of the coolest valet trays I've seen was actually a bottle of crown royal that was thrown in a massive bonfire and retrieved the following morning. I should've taken a picture.

I just place all my pocket stuff one by one on my night stand in the exact same arrangement every night. That doesn't make me OCD though, right? After all, I don't have a tiny night stand to set on my night stand.

Some of these are really cool. My car keys and Oakleys go on the dining room table right next to each other. Knife, wallet, watch, pen, chapstick, and phone go on top of the two Budweiser holiday crates that I have stacked as my bedside table each in their own spots. Admittedly I'm going to have to find a new way of doing that since I'm no longer single that bedside "table" has gotten a lot more cluttered. That crate of wrath is pretty sweet, not sure I can justify spending $400 on a box to hold my pocket crap though.

Gun safes are in the closet. Crap sits on top of one of the gun safes. Items that belong inside gun safes go there. There's an old tin up there that I think a wallet came in, but it's so full of change I can't put more stuff in it.

If I'm away from home, everything dumps into my hat.

Maxpedition, Saddleback leather I think, and others make some variations on a fold-flat valet tray. Toyed with getting one of them, but never bothered.

No kids here, so my carry gun sits in a soft-sided gun case on top of my dresser where I can easily access it when I'm home if it's not on me. Otherwise, yes, in the safe. As for my other daily stuff, it goes on my desk when it comes out of pants pockets. I've got a small valet tray that (IIRC) a wallet came in at one point, but it doesn't really see any use beyond storing my (sadly, broken) watch and its original (sadly, also broken) movement. I had the movement replaced once, but the watch (a Vostok titanium automatic based on the 2416B movment, for those who care) eventually developed the opposite symptom to the one that caused me to get the movement replaced in the first place. The original movement started losing time at an alarming rate; the replacement movement gains time at a rate of several minutes per hour. Either way, it's useless as a timepiece. I'm not throwing away any more money on it, no matter how much I used to love it, but I can't seem to throw it away, either. :(

...and that's probably enough of my sad thread drift...

In camp Ive found a lanyard on a pistol to be pretty handy for stepping out into the abyss of darkness to answer the call. Cant drop or lose the gun. That little hole in the back of the glock grip actually has a purpose.

Usually leave everything in the pockets. Deal with it if I change out pants the next day. If I'm washing whatever I had on, I get a bowl from the kitchen and put the pocket junk in it, or a hat if one is handy (not often). Some junk can go on the table beside the bed, like the gun, flashlight and reload. Depends on where I am though. On the road I don't like leaving things exposed in the room when I'm asleep, though the dog would likely wake me up if anyone came in. Gun and light goes under the pillow next to me on the road.

Pistols are stored securely. I have two boys ages 7 and 3 who love guns and loud noises. Loose handguns are no bueno.

Keys and sunglasses go in a basket by the door. Knife, watch, business card holder, wallet, etc go in a leather valet in the closet. Cell when not in my pocket (which is exceedingly rare anymore) is on a charging station on my night stand.

A thought, I'm part time at a different place. There are small children that can show up at a moments notice, as well as the cleaning girl. A true safe isn't in the room I'm normally sleeping in. I bought an entry locking doorknob set and put it on the closet door. If small children or other unexpected people I don't want loose stuff (guns, vehicle keys, checkbooks, important papers etc) laying around show up, it all goes in the closet and is locked, with one key always on me and another in the safe. Not as good as a safe, but a workable option for more common daily moments.

I bought a nice simple fruitwood maple box from a Mennonite guy selling them at a farmer's market in Ontario two summers ago for $10 Canadian.

It is nicely aged, with a hand-rubbed finish. It's just a box, basically, so pretty simple. I keep all the odds and ends I seem to be partial to over the years, in addition to wallet, keys, knife, etc. I have a rock from the National Holocaust Museum with "Remember", my dad's mini-switchblade (honest lol, he got it in Spain), and a Los Angeles class submarine tie-tack I got at IBM.

Here's where all the stuff in my pockets go when I get home. It's a 'Deluxe Valetary'. I found it several years ago in a thrift store. My phone has a case that functions as my wallet for ID and cards and is with me all the time. At night, my phone becomes my alarm clock and sits on top of my nightstand and my holstered pistol goes into the top drawer of the nightstand. The 'Valetary' is in my closet, where I get dressed.

Pocket shit (knife, flashlight, wallet, pen, etc.) goes in my ballcap.

Pistol, holster and mag carrier goes into a small refrigerator sized Sentry safe, with electronic digital keypad, that I bought second hand on Ebay for $85 (the guy I bought it from bought it at Costco). I bought 5 more trays for it on Amazon (~$12 each) and keep all my CCW pistols in it. Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, turn the handle and it's open. No fuss, no muss.

I use an old cigar box that belonged to my Grandpa. He died a few months before I was born. He was a Dam builder, and when he retired someone from his crew gave him a box of cigars. My Mom gave me that old cigar box and I throw the stuff from my pockets in there if I'm not planning on wearing the same pants/shorts again the next day. If I don't have some sort of box/tray, I'll spend far too long the next morning tracking down stuff before I leave.

I carry the Mitchell Leather money clip wallet linked above. It's the least bulky option I could find that didn't make dealing with cash a pain in the ass and that was made using materials and workmanship I appreciate. There are similar cheaper versions available too. The money clip is really handy. As easy to use as a billfold, and allows the wallet to be much slimmer. I find a smaller pouch-type wallet, where you have to fold bills up to put them in it, inconvenient to use. When I was looking into it, the Mitchell version seemed to be the nicest and best-executed version of this, as well as reasonably-priced by comparison to some others.

I almost bought a valet from Red Oxx. But when I stopped and thought about it, that product wouldn't serve my purposes any better than what I've currently got. I decided to simply stay put and save those $$ for something I REALLY need. This form of minimalism is growing on me.

There exist a vast variety of smaller baskets that would seem appropriate for the task. I look for them in thrift stores for brass handling when reloading. On the assumption that they must have been sold new at some point, the hobby lobby type places may have them. Some Ive found were actually pretty nice looking baskets. Think I'll grab one from my reloading supplies for by the bed instead of the kitchen bowl.

I just switched from a bifold to a card carrier. First thing I tried was the Ragged Edge Card Sleeve ID (http://www.raggededgeproducts.com/index.php/carbon-fiber-card-sleeve-id-wallet.html). Very nice sleeve with a clear ID window on one side and three slots on the other side. The downside to this is that as thin as the sailcloth is, every one of those slots adds some degree of thickness. The other problem with this sleeve is that it is very stiff when new. That means getting cards in and out is a pain. I experienced the same issue with a bifold from Ragged Edge that I tried out a few years ago. It's probably reasonable to assume that the wallet will break in over time, but I didn't have the patience to wait around to for that to happen. If you're concerned about the contents of your card holder being secure, you can shake the Ragged Edge holder to your heart's content, and it will not dislodge your cards.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/923/MNX0Ug.jpg

When that Ragged Edge bifold didn't work out, I found another company which makes recycled sailcloth products: Flowfold. I bought one of their bifold wallets and carried it for four years. It's held up great, and needed no additional break-in. So, about a month ago I picked up their Minimalist Card Holder Wallet (http://www.flowfold.com/product/minimalist-card-holder-wallet). It's a single-pocket sleeve, lacking the organization you get from the Ragged Edge card holder. But it also comes in a couple millimeters thinner, and it's not ridiculously stiff—cards are easy to insert and retrieve. You get a few more choices in color with the Flowfold, too. My criticism would be the lack of organization. If this card holder came with a clear vinyl ID sleeve on the opposite side, it would be just about perfect for me. The downside to cards being easy to remove is that cards are easy to remove. Turn this thing upside down and give it a good shake, and it ejects its contents quite easily.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/923/HgmURN.jpg

Flowfold says this model can carry up to eleven credit cards, plus a few folded bills. Empty, it's a mere 2mm thin. I carry five cards and four folded bills, which comes out to 10mm. The Ragged Edge holder starts at 4mm thin when empty, and 12mm when full. Ragged Edge says it will hold four to six cards, plus one ID, and an unspecified number of folded bills. The Ragged Edge holder is $35, while the Flowfold is $10. In summary, if you want organization, solid retention, and don't mind a slightly thicker package, the Ragged Edge is for you. If you aren't so concerned about retention and want the absolutely slimmest card sleeve out there, and don't want to spend a lot of money, the Flowfold is what you want.

I've heard there are over 50 different ways to snag those CC digits. The vast majority of people don't have RFID-enabled credit cards (most use EMV now). The techie criminal buying hundreds of CC#s at a time on the internet is common. A street corner RFID sniffer is less likely. It's more effort, more risk, and less reward than being a cyber criminal. If you're really worried about RFID sniffing, wrapping your cards in tin foil will do just as good a job. Might want to wrap your car key too if you're outlier-grade paranoid.

TL;DR I don't know shit about technology. Plus, I carry a coach wallet cuz I'm fabulous.

I have been using one of these slim billfolds I make for over a year now. Holds cash and 8-12 cards. It is taller than most wallets for foreign bills but folds to a normal size. By stacking the cards, it is pretty thin and I can easily carry it in my front pocket. This one is made from Nurse Shark and pigskin.

For those interested, I just set up a 10% discount coupon code for Pistol Forum members. It is for the J. Ryan & Co. (https://squareup.com/market/jrcleather) store. Use PF10 at checkout for your discount. If you have ordered in the last couple of days since I posted the wallets, I have your back.

...

I just place all my pocket stuff one by one on my night stand in the exact same arrangement every night. That doesn't make me OCD though, right? After all, I don't have a tiny night stand to set on my night stand.

This, same thing, same arrangement. And yup, I gots the OCD...
Pistol comes off the pants, in the holster and right into the quick open safe/box.

That Valet box[es] is a neat idea, but most times, 'other accessories' end up in a basket on the stand.

Wallet, Been using the Maxpedition Spartan since they introduced them many years ago. Easy to carry, and great organization.

Placed my order today. Looking forward to carrying the heirloom around everyday and having a small wallet with standard cash carry so when I throw the Benjamins down I do it in a smooth manner instead of the weird folding I am doing now.

Since this wallet is offered by Jim, whose work is well-known to be top-notch, I'll order it, too. I'll replace what I've been running (Saddleback Leather Small Bifold). And I'll carry & use it with pride.

I've got a saddleback leather card wallet. Suits me fine but I don't carry a lot of stuff.

I moved to just his belts and got rid of the nylon/cobra buckle silliness (no judgement, just I am getting white in my beard and I dream of vintage axes and 1911's). I got some things to figure out but want to get a full left/right set of holsters one day.

Good move.

My beard's roughly 40% white. I always hated the nylon belts. I moved over to leather belts years ago, and Jim's holster within the past year. I still admire and respect Tony's work at JMCK, but there's a very different feel and dynamic to leather holsters that will likely keep me hooked.

I ended up buying this slim wallet - http://amzn.to/2dbj1Qy (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EKMG4DA) - it's RFID blocking and only $18.xx shipped via prime, had good reviews per amazon so why not?

Still looking for a good EDC container.

This works for me. Three compartment tray. I put my all my stuff in my right pocket in one. Put the stuff from my left pocket in another. The third holds stuff I may not carry everyday like an additional SAK, small light, etc.

In the morning it makes things easier because if I misplaced anything Ill know it by sight instead of just throwing everything from a big basket into my pockets without thinking.

I've been thinking of these. Two trays for $25. One on top of the dresser and one in the gun room when I am cleaning stuff and doing disassembly tasks. If the vendor gives you heartburn, you can find them elsewhere: https://www.botach.com/ultra-gun-all-purpose-maintenance-trays-2-pack/

Some of these trays/containers are pretty cute. I know a bunch of guys who like Gerstner's Machinists Chests like this: http://gerstnerusa.com/made-in-usa-products/chests-and-bases/2610-chest They are certainly very cool and have a great look, but at 1900 bucks just a bit rich for me.

But taking the Machinist's toolbox as a starting point I decided to evolve it a bit further, with some time and effort I found this:

11831

This is a salesman/serviceman's chest for J.T. Slocomb Co. Machinist tools...The tools that the machinist would store in his Gerstner came first from the samples carried and serviced with this kit.

11832

I saw the potential here. Bakelite drawers, wood, steel, leather, heavy duty latches. So, starting with the bones, I cleaned every thing thoroughly and then spent some time putting felt down in the bottom, in each drawer and eventually along the top to have a place to mount morale patches.

11834

The top folds down for addition storage, right now it's a bit messy still setting up my organizational structure.

11833

___

Old school, cool, and not many people out there are going to have something like this...whereas you can still buy a Gerstner. Not that it matters...but you know...it matters.
