Is 9mm Federal Champion an FMJ or a plated bullet?

I thought it was plated, but don't have any to verify.

What's the difference? I don't know what plated is.....copper-washed vs traditional FMJ?

I don't know what "copper washed" is.

Plated I assume is very thin layer (think a few microns) of a material (must be an element, like copper, gold, silver, rhodium etc) that is electroplated (chemically bonded via electrolysis) to the thing being plated.

Full metal jacket is literally a substantial layer (jacket) of copper or brass around the lead core. Try and pull the bullet off an FMJ round (should be able to get it with pliers) and you will clearly be able to see the jacket and lead core.
