Ok, I have been trying to figure out which Hogue G10 grip is the best for me. There is no place around for me to try them out and after reading online reviews I am not sure theres a hard line difference. So I guess what I am looking for is opinions. Which ones are the roughest texture? Checkered? Piranha? Chain Link? Several places have them on sale right now and I am hoping to jump on a sale before everyone sells out. Theres guy who has the aluminum checkered ones for sale locally but I think the G10 are thinner from what Ii can tell online. Thanks for the help!

The aluminum checkered and G10 are the same size. I have both.

I bought a P226R Extreme that had the Piranha. They were OK. They reminded me of the Ed Brown Chainsaw texture (if that helps you make a comparison).

The checkered are my preferred texture. I have them on all my Sigs, except my P224, because for me they offer the best hands on purchase ability between the three I've tried(I also tried the smooth). I feel the texture is fairly close to that of the Hk P30/Sig E2 grips. It is sand paper grippy and for my paws, it sticks.

The chain links are the grippiest for me.

I bought a set of the Piranha grips looking for max bite. Makes sense eh? I was very disappointed with the texture and returned them. They were nowhere near as aggressive as I was looking for. At that price it better be near perfect.

Interesting that the Chainlink is reviewed better in that regard.

I emailed Hogue with this question early last year and this is the verbatim response:

Ranked from least aggressive to most it would go like this: Smooth, checkered, piranha, then the most aggressive would be chain-link. Many people say the chainlink is too aggressive and a majority of people tend to like the piranha when they are looking for a grip with some texture.

I went with the Piranha, but have not tried the others so have nothing to compare it to.

Just put G-10 Piranha's on my 229 and 239. Perfect fit, grippy enough without rubbing my skin raw while carrying IWB. Had some wood grips from Hogue which were nice, but seemed to let lots of lint into the mainspring area.

I've been digging the E2 grips. Grippy enough for fast, (for me), shooting but don't seem to hang up on my clothes when carried concealed.

I also like the E2 grips. I think SIG actually did a solid job on the choice of stippling.

I like the Piranhas personally--grippy, but not too rough. I'm not a huge fan of the e2s--they were a little sandpapery and rubbed me the wrong way (see what I did there?) when carrying IWB--literally rubbed my skin red in a few minutes.

My issue with the E2 grips is the change of the grip 'shape/angle'. For me, they push my hand down lower and put my wrists at more of a 90 degree, which fatigues me faster when shooting long day sessions.

I love the texture of the E2 grips but they're too small. Wish SIG would put out a set that are the same shape as their regular grips.

I have chain link on my 226 and piranha on my 229. The piranhas are plenty grippy enough for carry IMHO. I still like sandpaper on the front strap even with the G10's.

A friend has a Legion. Not sure what texture is on those grips but I like it.

I totally get not liking the shape of the E2.

I'm just fortunate. I have size large hands, but they are wiry not meaty. I rarely have much issue with any size grip.

The E2 shape and size don't jive very well with my (larger) hand size, but an E2 type texture is pretty easy to replicate with a stipple job on the standard Sig stocks. It's also an inexpensive way to dabble with finding what texture works for you.

These make the process a bunch more dummy-proof and fast than making individual holes one at a time too, FWIW...

Taadski does a very nice job stippling factory grips.

I like the Hogue chain link, as they are good and grippy but don't snag on clothes. Not a fan of the E2, both because of shape, and they start out slightly scratchy against bare skin and then progressively loose traction with use.

That is a totally fair criticism. I am almost due to either replace or stipple my current practice 226 E2s.

I'll PM Taadski and see about sending him a pair for stippling. I really like the feel of the VZ Gatorbacks on my 1911 but I haven't seen anything like the for the SIG. I looked at the E2's and didn't really like them except for their texture. I appreciate the responses so far. Keep 'em coming!

I wonder if enough of us with SIGs got together if we could get VZ or another grip manufacturer to do is a run...

I don't care much for the E2 grips, but I tolerate them for now. The grippiness does wear down on them fairly quick in my experience. Likely going to buy some factory seconds from Hogue to throw on.

VZ used to make SIG grips in G-10, they dropped them due to low sales volume and high cost to manufacture. Hogue pretty much owns the market. Pachmeyer and Nills make sig grips but Pachmeyers make the grip huge and Nills are pricey and hard to find.

All finished and back on my backup 226.

But not without its risks! Thanks for the push to give it a try Taadski!

I like the G10 checkered quite a bit. If they are too sharp, you can always lightly drag some 320 grit across the points until they are just right.

On some models (SAO maybe - I forget exactly), Hogue does a smaller-pitch version of the Piranha that is pretty sweet.
