Has anyone tried one of these yet? The ability to use either a Cr123 or a single AA sounds useful for an around the house light.

Kyle Defoor raved about his in a recent class, and then beat a concrete floor with it. It is a damn good size, too.

I have a buddy who just got one of those. Doesn't have a lot of time on it yet but he likes it. I used to use the non-dual version and liked it.

I've been carrying one for a few weeks now and like it. Great size, clip works well in face down carry and I have it programmed with the low/high option. Currently using a CR123 battery with it. I haven't beat on it though.

I am on my second CR123 version. Only bought the new one because one is none and I figured I was due to lose something soon. Still have both flashlights, however I did manage to lose my $200 HEST folder :(
Great little light, one has been in my pocket everyday for the past three or so years.

Yeah, I'd rather have two different lights that's optimized for each cell. And I don't ever remember having an "oh shit" moment where a CR123 wasn't available.
The best overall battery for the 1L-1AA is a lithium AA (150 lumens @ 4.25hr run time) and those are even more expensive than CR123s (in bulk).

I can see this as a good light for traveling, particularly outside the US. I like the performance lithium cells offer, but the ability to use any reasonable AA that can be found is advantageous.

I've had one since they were first available. Excellent little light.

I had no idea this was available, and while I've been happy with ProTac 1L, I'd love to get 350 lumens out of such a small light, and now I want one.

Ordered. Will advise on how well it works after running it in a few classes.

Just looked at the operating instructions. The switch must be pressed twice within 0.4 seconds in order to change modes. This is very likely to be a small enough time interval to avoid changing modes when you do not want to change modes. In my opinion most other multi-mode lights that rely entirely on the tail switch to change modes will change modes if the switch is depressed within 1-2 seconds of the last press, which is long enough to unintentionally change modes when using the light intermittently.

Yes the interface is great. You can set it to High only if you want as well. On low/high, first tap is Low, second tap (can do this very quickly as you noted) is High, any subsequent quick tap keeps it on High.

I ordered one as well. Knives and flashlights have become my slush fund... :)

Can anyone tell me what the diameter is around the main part of the body where the make / model inscription is? And how long that section is?
I wondering if it could be mountable, or to just stick with the Streamlight 88058 ProTac Railmount 1L model.

I picked up one of these as well. Haven't had the chance to mess with it much, but initial thoughts are positive. I like the clip. Using my cheapo micrometer, I'm getting .767 in (19.5mm) for diameter on that section (not counting the clip). Length is a little trickier, due to the beveled edges of the rings, but I'm getting a conservative 1.127 in (28.63mm) for the flat section.

Is that a Microstream on the bottom?
I've been looking at the 1L-1AA.. even asked about it in the EDC flashlight thread and got no response. I'm carrying a Microstream now and really like its size for "forget it's there" EDC. I wear it clipped right behind my EDC Scallion and it's completely unobtrusive and yet always there when needed for mundane daily tasks. Really nice little light, IMO.
But, I think the dual mode of the 1L-1AA could come in handy too. Just been worried that it may be a little large for my desires...
How do you think it compares to the Microstream for convenience of carry?

Yep, from bottom to top: Streamlight Microstream (AAA, single mode 28 lumens), Surefire E1B (123A, dual mode 110/5 lumens), Streamlight Protac 1L-1AA (123A or AA, multimode/programmable), and Surefire VTAC Mini L4 (123A, single output 110 lumens...O-ring finger loop added to clip in pic). I bought the 1L-1AA due to the battery options for OCONUS travel...I stuck the 123 in it to check it out, but haven't really done much beyond that. It's not bad in the pocket, but to me carries much more like the single cell Surefires than the Microstream (which you'd expect, given the 123A battery option). It is slightly longer and extends slightly more out of the pocket than VTAC (without the o-ring). For convenience of carry, it really is hard to beat the Microstream (I had not realized they had pushed the output to 45 lumens on the current model--will have to check that out, as mine are the older version of the C4).

Thanks for the info. And yep, my Microstream is the newer one rated at 45 lumens. I can't say how it compares to the earlier lower output versions, but I've been pleased with its performance for what I most often need a light for. It's a nice and convenient package that's easy to always have available.

Mine arrived today. Changing the mode to High Only was not difficult at all. The pocket clip works very well, and it's easy to clip into the pocket with just one hand.
Pretty good light for the money, I'm going to order another for one of my minions that works in our server farm. He uses lights for hours every day, and beats/loses them regularly. I'll post his feed back here in a month.
I'm sure he'll like the dual fuel. I'm going to put one of these in the GHB in my vehicle.

One more, of the 1L-1AA and the Microstream...tried to line up the hang point of the clips. Hard to see here but the clips are bent differently--as SeriousStudent noted, the 1L-1AA is easy to clip in the pocket (due in part to that).

Thanks for the side by side comparo. That really helps be put it into perspective. I think I'll go ahead and pick up the 1L-1AA. But, I have a feeling that the Microstream will continue to be my always-there EDC due to how easy it is to carry and the fact that it does at least 95% of what I typically need in a light for EDC.

Resurrecting this thread.
I lost my 1L-1AA almost a year ago while cleaning out brush on our new property. I was pretty bummed but found a great deal on a Surefire Backup MV that filled the EDC role.
Well this week my daughter and her friend were playing in the woods and they spotted something odd sticking out of the ground. Low and behold they found my 1L-1AA. It survived the winter and a lot of wet weather. The CR123 battery is still running fine.

While I do really like the Backup, I did miss the throw of the Streamlight. It will be hard not to carry both now.
