I used money from selling a pistol to buy yet another press...

Already have two 550s (one with case feed), but I got a SL900 and really like the indexing... ;)

ETA: Should I be proud or ashamed that I do not know how to spell fetish?...

Congrats! I've been quite pleased with my 650 since obtaining it a month or two ago. Much nicer machine (in my opinion) than the Lee Loadmaster that I've used in the past (not that the Lee is junk or anything either though).

If I'm counting correctly you ordered press #4. That's a good start, not a fetish. Next you need a really good single stage (Forster Co-ax) for small quantities of precision rifle ammo.

Sounds to me like you're working your way up to a 1050, (can we say auto-swage?). As for your newly found fetish, you're in pretty good company I think we have more than a few reloading junkies on this forum. Just look at the photos of reloading setups thread. Enjoy your new baby auto-progressive presses are huge in time savings, and just plain more fun to operate. That and its the only progressive I know that I can stomach.

I keep pondering a 650 or 1050 for dedicated pistol and keeping the 550 for all other calibers. Finances get in the way.

Counting the little Lee single stages I use for things like priming, and the MEC9000 that was given to me that I plan to get working someday and the 600JR I kept around cause you know, someday I might want to load some 3" shells, I think the 650 might be number ten.

Still relying on the Rock Chucker Dad bought when I wuz a kid, but all my buddies have the Co-Ax. Hmmmmm.....

No, no, you're totally a wacko. I only have a Rock Chucker, 650, and Lee hand press, not counting the 450 Lubrisizer of course. :)

But seriously, the real crazies in my mind are the ones with 38 guns and no reloading press. Not even the cheapest Lee single-stage kit stuffed away in its box somewhere for 'just in case,' along with a few thousand primers, couple lbs of powder, and either a casting mold or some bullets.

I have the same thoughts (and the same problem). I keep thinking if I'm going to do it then one of these days I'll just jump in and get the 1050. At least there's nowhere left to go up after that.

The only caliber that I reload is 9x19, and I'm pleased with my 650. I am a bit jealous, though, of a good friend and forum member who has a 1050 set up for 9x19. Now that thing is just sexy.

Yup, he's offered me use of it and I know I shouldn't try it, it will just cost me.

The journey begins with a single step :)

I only added the second 550 a few years ago.

I used to have three Dillon Square Deals (one in 9mm, 40S&W, and 45ACP), plus two MEC shotgun presses (12 and 28), and a single stage on the bench. The Square Deal is a great solution for one pistol caliber (with the strong mount).

But then a couple of buddies bought up the stuff I replaced, a regression [emoji3]

A 650 with a fully adjusted toolhead for each caliber is not exactly roughing it.

Sometimes I ponder a second 650 to have one each dedicated to small and large primers....

I still have the first 550. Part of my decision to do the 650 is still have the 550 with all of my setups.

Not shooting so much 45 these days, may never bother with large primers on the 650. But I am never saying never...

I just scored a 550 set up for 9mm
A Midway Tumbler
A rifle case trimmer
430 pieces of .30/06 brasss
Several hundred .38 Special brass
Several hundred .357 brass
3000 124 grain 9mm SJHP bullets
Several thousand pieces of 9mm brass
2 pounds of Accurate #2
1 pound of Accurate #4
$400

I sold the .30/06 brass and recovered slightly over 1/4th of my investment.

It's ok to hate me. :)

I have been using the same Dillon 550 since 1986. Lately I load 9mm almost exclusively but in the past I have loaded huge amounts of .45ACP and smaller amounts of .357 Mag, .30 carbine, .38 Super and .30-06. The worst part of caliber changes is when you have to change primer sizes and shell plates. I would love to have a second machine so I could set up one for large primers and the other for small. I also have the large Dillon case tumbler and the Dillon case/media separater. The tumbler and the media separater save a huge amount of time because of the large capacity. My dream setup would be a 1050 for each caliber I shoot a lot of, and the 550 for load development and stuff I only shoot small amounts of, but then if I had the money to put all that togther I probably would not bother to reload.

My problem right now is I have 2 weeks off of work because of shoulder surgery. Of course it had to be my right shoulder so I have a lot of free time but I can't reload, go to the range, or even dry fire. Well, I have been doing some dry fire but it is all weak hand only.

Part of the reason I was slow to jump to the 650 is I have the 550 setups for 380, 9mm, 38, 357 (seperate dies and tool head), 40, 44, 45 and 223.

For the last two years or so I have had two 550s, one set up with the case feed. Seems I have kept it set up for 9, 40 or 45 and just load a bunch. That leaves the other one for whatever else needs done.

I have just been removing and cleaning the primer feed and switching the slide without diasembling the little ram.

No hate from me. That is basically how I got my second 550 years ago.

Not counting the cost of the press and related tooling, how much does it cost to load 1000 rounds of 9mm and/or .223 practice ammo when buying in bulk? Please list the components, where to buy them, and the price. Thanks

Also, if you shoot cast bullets you can deduct another $30.
