Kent has poor vision not one eye already and now has a detached retina in his good eye. He is going in for surgery and needs the good push to do well and have Normal vision in his good eye. It's a serious surgeryou as it's the difference in seeing well or barely seeing.

Spread the word. Kent is a really great guy and super generous and thoughtful.

My dad went through the exact same thing. He has damaged vision in one eye due to an accident, detached the other retina. All is well now, and I pray it will work out the same for Kent.

PS-The hardest part for my dad was recovery because you have to lay down, no reading, no TV, etc.

Thoughts and prayers his way. I'm around 100 days out from retinal detachment surgery in my dominant eye. The only good thing I have to say about that operation is it beats the alternative. That's the last thing anyone needs in their good eye.

Kent is still in some pain but has been able to read some, up close. He has no glaucoma but has a cataract that may go away on its own. If not he will need surgery for that too.

His wife says that the family appreciates all the prayers and kind words and thanks everyone here very deeply.

They want everyone to know the prayers are working.

Kent can use Sirius to read him text messages...

I was able to get in touch with Kent and he said the only help he can use is for time to speed up. Otherwise there's nothing anyone can help with.

He and family are very thankful for everyone's support.

So, I'm reading this through the heavy fog of a cataract(an unfortunate byproduct of the treatment) and am thankful for all of your thoughts and prayers. It's been a rough couple of months and I probably won't be back to full speed till around Thanksgiving. I think the worst part, was missing my son's first day of preschool. He started three days after I went under the knife. Since then, I've been inundated with texts, calls, and emails from members of the gun forums I frequent, and wish I could show the rest of the world what a great group of people make up our community.

Ill just be reading for the time being, as it is still quite difficult, but hope to participate in discussions here soon.

Thanks again, All.

Thank you for the kind words, everyone. I'm typing this from my desk at work, so I'm pretty jazzed to be productive again. I've got a long way to go, but at least we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I do have few thoughts that i'd like to share:

1. Treat your eye health as seriously as the rest of your body. I've been able to only use one eye since 1982, so I always knew that this was possible. So do whatever you can to keep your eyes in good health. My dad had a retina in his left eye fail, so did his dad, and my brother too. It might be wise to understand your relative's eye health to better understand yours.

2. My surgeon had been telling me to wear glasses for years, even though the vision in my good (right) eye was 20/20. He just wants a layer of protection between the world and my delicate eye. I'm going to ask that you take this advice, too. If anything, use the excuse that you need eye protection if you ever have to use your CCW gun.

3. The brain is an amazing thing. I've been right-eye dominant, by default for over three decades, and have learned to do everything without any real depth perception. I've shot, and raced dirt bikes, and done all kinds of things without too much trouble. But when my right eye shit the bed, I was forced to put my very bad left eye to work. In the end, i found that I had alot more utility in it than I had believed. My brain decided that it could process a really crappy image and make it work. I was amazed. Still mostly bind, but amazed.

When I started to get a little vision back, I decided that I would get back into a dry-fire routine. I'm almost solely a 1911 guy, so I'm pretty confident that i can FEEL when I'm doing it right. What I wasn't prepared for was that my brain, within about 6 weeks of surgery, had switched eye dominance almost completely. When I held a pistol in front of me, the image only aligned with my left eye, not the eye that I've been using all my life. So in the past two weeks, alot of the vision in my right eye returned, and within a few days, i was no longer cross dominant. I couldn't believe that changes could be made that quickly. NO ONE has ever said my brain was amazing, but I think I might have to say it myself.

And so the last question, in the spitir of P-F, who practices pistol weak-EYE only?

Thank God some good news to come out of this crappy year. I'm praying for the other PF members with serious health challenges to have some more good news.
