For the Dillon 550 it looks like you use the #3 shellplate, #3 locator buttons, and the "AK" powder funnel (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PWCTUGQ/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=ratio07-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B00PWCTUGQ&linkId=39648c3ac2875a9d21e2ee1b3d4f0dd6) unless you are belling/flaring the case in which case you want the .30 Carbine 13564 powder funnel.

I just ordered the .30 Carbine powder funnel off of eBay, I'll update this thread w/ how it works.

Is the 300 Blackout noted for any idiosyncrasies in the reloading process? I've never loaded for it, but I've loaded a good bit of other centerfire rifle ammo on single stage presses back in the day.

Watch you bell size, keep it to the minimum amount needed. Split cases happen very fast on cases that are not anealed.

Are forming your own brass or using original 300blk brass?

I'm just buying brass. I've noted that some speak about having to use a different die than what Dillon recommends (hence my ordering decision) and some also claim that the shell plate needs washers underneath it.

I've used the RCBS and Forster dies for 300blk, they both work well-no shim needed. I like the Forster seating die that is micrometer adjustable. It makes switching from super to sub rounds faster and if you keep a log you can adjust on the fly also with powder charge if you have the micrometer adjustable powder bar as well. Log your settings for your rounds, check your notes and adjust then check your first few powder drops and seat/measure your first few rounds.

All of my 300blk is loaded on a 550b.

Please share when you get some accuracy testing done and what twist rate for the test.

I am having a devil of a time getting Subs to shoot.

Copy, I checked all of the brass I was prepping last night (109 pieces) and it was all 1.35 or under so I said Fuck It, deprimed, and wet tumbled with steel pins (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IER1VCM/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=ratio07-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B00IER1VCM&linkId=5dc6b49e15b4a2cf816134a68692ace9) today.

Same upper with 16" barrel from 1:10 (I know it would keyhole) to 1:8 and then 1:7

All with A-Max 208's at 980's

Need to pick up some other ammo. Best I could muster from what I had was just under 2" at 100 yards.

JM Campbell
08-14-2016, 08:39 AM
What gas port length? Pistol or carbine?

With IMR 4227 at 18.0gr 125gr Speer TNT I'm hitting 1-1.5" groups at 100yd. Granted that is a super load.

With Amax 208 and 10.8gr IMR 4227 I was at 1.5-2" at 100yd.

If I was a better shooter I'm sure the groups would shrink a little. Shooting position was sitting using concrete shooting bench with my pack as a bag/rest for the barrel/rail.

AAC 9.5 barrel kit that included their pinned gas block and gas tube.

Set your powder die higher on the press. Sounds like it's too low and when at full down stroke your compressing the case?

The silver base (cylinder inserted into powder bar) needs green 609 loctite.

Do I need to screw it in flush as well or simply slide it all of the way in?

One comment on loading the 300BLK, I've found that cartridge OAL to be more important than it appears. If you load to the magazine limit (2.25") than the rounds will not stack in the magazine properly. The AR-15 mag has ribs inside that bear on the shoulder of the 5.56 case. When you trim to 300BLK, the shoulder is gone. The ogive of the bullet now bears against those ribs. Load the bullets at 2.25" OAL and the ogive stacks past the mag rib, and the rounds do not stack properly in the mag. This leads to feeding and reliability issues. Consider going to a shorter OAL so the bullet ogive is in the same spot the shoulder of the 5.56 case was. Around 2.1" or shorter for a 110gr VMAX or a 125gr Nosler. This is tough with 208 or 220 sub sonics because of bullet length and case volume.
Be aware that you have lower case volume with the bullets seated deeper, so your max load will be reached with less powder.

IIRC, I set the slide all the way flush after putting the 609 on the silver cylinder insert and used a wood clamp with light pressure to insure the assembly would not move until the 609 had cured.

I did clean all surfaces with alcohol before assembly to insure a oil/contamination free surface.

So, you simply got good contact on the threads and then slid all of the way in rather than threading all of the way in?

Found these directions online for your setup.

Click on the pdf instructions, shows exactly the spacing on the treads you need to setup properly.
