It's so close! Les (you see what i did there) than a month. Who's all going? I know we have a few on here going.

i predict Ben will win, and everyone else won't.

This also the official production nationals thread, if anyone starts another one I will be but hurt. And if you send me your real name and address I'll send you a letter in the mail from a fake attorney.

I should go to a nationals...too bad I shoot single stack and single stack nationals is before any other club opens up for the season :D

I think Production nats has so much heat that it's too close to call any given year. The 2015 nats were crazy heavy in the talent pool...but I'd bet Ben and Bob are both gonna be up there...I wouldn't be surprised to see Alex Gutt move up a few places from last year.

I'm cheering for Les tho...cuz berettas are rad.

BCL

It was stupid close last year (top three within ~0.5%) and I predict the same this year if the same top guys compete. If we have a similar top field to last year, I predict (hope) that it will be won by Ben, followed by Nils, Vogel, and Gutt. After that, probably Dave Sevigny, JJ Racaza, and Max Michel.

Then, if we are lucky, we will get the first Top 16 finish ever using only hip shooting by Taran Butler. I also predict sadness when Taran inadvertently gets John Wick killed in the streets in JW2 by bringing along Keanu Reeves and introducing him to USPSA.

I think Casey reed will be in the top 10 this year.

I'm not sure where Les will end up, but I'm hoping it's the top 5-10. It would be EPIC if he beat Ben with a Beretta.

Yes, it would be epic.

Especially since Tanfo's are stupid temperamental pieces of pot metal trash, just like CZ's. (runs and hides from Luke):cool:

Give em hell Les!

This'll be my first Nationals. I'm one of the guys you mentioned who won't win. My placement will almost certainly be triple-digit ;)

Just wanna shoot to my own level of skill; should be a fun experience!

Thanks! The last couple weeks have been all about getting into/out of position efficiently. This weekend and next week leading up to the match are gonna be focused solely on marksmanship - specifically on ingraining how aggressively I can shoot and transition when no-shoots are involved.

Should be an interesting match as always. I too could see Reed getting higher marks. He beat Gutt at WI sectionals simply because Gutt had a minor hiccup at one point.

They're all so close it's almost to the fates if one of them sneezes a little and costs half a second.

Anyone can go. There are a few spots that are "earned" like top guys from last years nationals, I think some area winners are sent invites aswell. But you can walk up and shoot. I'm not 100% sure but I wanna say for level 2 and up you have to be a uspsa member, but I could be wrong.

TL;DR version: There are Previous National Champion slots, Area slots, and Section slots for invites to Nationals. There are also a number of first come, first serve slots.

I'm practicing more, shooting more... Maybe dry firing a bit less, overall.

After nationals, I'll probably taper off the high-volume shooting and work a few other aspects for a bit...

I'll be there for my second year. Thursday PM/friday AM/saturday PM schedule for me. I had a great time last year, so I'm definitely looking forward to it. If you see a dude with an HK, it is probably me. Come say hi.

Unless I DQ, I'm pretty likely to beat all but one of team perfection, so that's something at least. Most of team perfection is better looking than me though.

I would say I'm jealous of your time with the King, but if all goes right I'll be taking my second ever real training class from hizzoner Mr. White himself later on this year. I'm looking forward to it almost as much as Nationals, truth be told.

Looks like I've got somebody to cheer for - the lady who beats all of us at my local club match every week is in 2nd so far and her husband is 3rd (I've never seen him shoot Production before; IIRC he's a Limited M). I'm guessing the results as of now are just the people who are working the match as ROs and staff, since they do work a lot of the higher level matches. Hopefully their scores hold up well after the rest of the field has results.

That was my suspicion as well until I saw Manny Bragg had already started shooting. My guess is match staff and maybe they started another squad today if some people are shooting in a three day format (if they are offering that, I don't know).

Manny has been shooting the staff match for just about every major he's attended this year. Scores up to this point are all from the staff shoot. I arrived at the range yesterday to check things out, the stages look good. Very typical of PASA park, but a good mix of challenges. The stage with two 20+ yard swingers will be interesting. It's going to be brutally hot, so if anyone is attending, make sure you stay hydrated.

ETA: Super squad starts at 1pm on Friday, then shoots all day Sat.

Going live here in roughly 45 minutes!

Really excited about this. It's an absolute travesty that they don't do a live stream of some sort for this. Maybe the new administration will take promotion of the sport more seriously.

Periscoping this thing would be super easy.

I'm rooting for Les because Pizza Gun, but I think Ben is just too consistent. I love how much heat shows up for Production Nationals now that they split it off from the others.

08-12-2016, 01:26 PM
Yea, Quicktime sucks.

Does Mink use a 2lb recoil spring in his CZ? I know CZs have very little recoil, but his muzzle just doesn't lift. Ridiculous.

Bere09

Ben looked off rhythm with his shots. Hopefully that just means he was actually waiting for his sights instead of just firing off four rapid shots in succession hoping the gun returned correctly.

Gutt was smooth as hell on his reload.

Quicktime blows about as much as Java. I literally can't even watch it on any browser I have and I don't own an Apple product. Liveshots needs to get their shit together, they've been doing this for years.

Mr_White
08-12-2016, 02:56 PM

Why did stoeger shoot the popper last on stage 5???

Here's a weird stat: 17 DQs out of 369 shooters = 4.6% of the field DQed! That seems pretty high to me, especially given the caliber of shooters that go to Nationals; was one of the stages a DQ trap?

Does anyone know the top ten pistols? Did a Glock seriously come in 2nd? Didn't that happen last time with Vogel or Nils?

Gutt = Tanfo (Lim Pro?)
Coley = G34 (Captain of Team Glock)
Stoeger = Tanfo Stock II
Sevigny = FNS 5" 9mm (wasn't there, this is what he usually shoots)
Nils = G34
Mink = CZ (Accu-Shadow?)
Luna/Hetherington = no idea
Reed = Tanfo? Luke might know
Max Michel = Sig P320

So, I guess if you want to compete in USPSA, the guns you should pick should be in the following order:
Tanfo Lim Pro > Glock > Tanfo Stock II > FNS > CZ > P320

Vogel got 2nd last year, Nils 3rd, both shooting G34s. http://www.uspsa.org/uspsa-display-match-results-detail.php?indx=15362&division=Production&guntype=Pistol

Heh. Didn't DQ, anyway. 191st place overall. I'm currently a lowly B class shooter, so my expectations were not high. It was pretty cool seeing the kind of speed that is required to be really competitive - I now know what I need to focus on in my practice for the foreseeable future.

Did okay on the first day, had a couple 'me' issues and a couple ammo issues the second day, and shot way too cautiously the third day.

It was a fun experience, but being from a semi-arid climate, the humidity was a major bitch and took a lot of getting used to.

How high up did the striker-fired HK place?

I see our own Talionis in mid-70s, with mid 70 percentage as well. I don't know how to assess that as there are mostly G and M shooters above him, as well as G and M shooters below. Gonna hazard a guess that this placement under-represents his skill level but I don't want to speak for him.
I don't know other HK shooters to say if anyone got better placement.

Talionis
08-15-2016, 11:42 PM
How high up did the striker-fired HK place?

75th. I've been struggling with the mental aspect of match performance for the whole season to-date, and that culminated with day 1 of nationals. I had a lightbulb moment after that and shot well for days 2 and 3, but as far as match performance, the damage was done on the first day. One thing: I can say with absolute confidence that I was not handicapped by the gun. It ran perfectly and all my mistakes were my own.

Talionis

Mental game is a huge part of skill level when it comes to USPSA, so I would say my placement really accurately represents my skill level, inclusive of mental game. That being said, days 2 and 3 of my match (stages 1-13) actually accurately represent my current skill level, since I was finally able to get out of my own way mentally and just shoot within my normal level of execution. When I get around to it I will look at scores from just those stages to see where my skill set measures up to the national heat, but it's safe to say that it will be very important to put the lessons learned at Nationals to work immediately if I want to be competitive.

When I get around to it I will look at scores from just those stages to see where my skill set measures up to the national heat, but it's safe to say that it will be very important to put the lessons learned at Nationals to work immediately if I want to be competitive.

BTW - it was nice to meet you, bro!

I think I was helping reset and paste for my bro, Rob Lisak at the time...

Congrats Les! Also congrats to my buddy Trenton, top invader, errr, foreigner, that is.

I met Trenton when we were on the same squad at a match this past winter. He is a super nice guy and a very disciplined shooter!

Through pure dumb luck, I was squadded with the guys who got 8th and 12th overall, so it was really cool (and rather intimidating!) seeing that level of performance in person. Met our very own Les Pepperoni, as well - congrats on your placement!
