I started shooting primarily 9mm 1911's 4 or 5 years ago (before they were cool), and have been carrying a Commander-sized 9mm on duty (plainclothes) for a few years now. I really like the 9mm 1911's, and, in my opinion, Wilson Combat and Dan Wesson probably do them better than anyone else.

So, in late April, I contacted Keith Lawton at Dan Wesson and asked him to build me a CCO (officer frame, Commander slide) in 9mm. I've always liked the CCO design, and briefly owned one in .45 a few years ago.

Working with Keith, I spec'd out the CCO to include Straight 8 sights, a Wilson Combat round-butt magwell, and 25 LPI checkering on the frame, instead of the chainlink they normally put on the CCO's.

The price he quoted me was much less than I expected, but I think he gave me a LEO discount, and I also supplied the grips and the magwell.

After about 3 months of waiting, it shipped a couple days ago, and I picked it up today. I haven't shot it yet, but I'm very happy with the build. I think it looks great. I normally prefer thin grips on my 1911's, but I think the standard thickness grips on this gun make it feel great in my hand.

That is absolutely beautiful! I really dig the thick barrel bushing. I didn't know DW did custom builds.

So cool it makes me a little angry.

I carry a CCO daily in the summer. Hard to beat the form factor and a really easy gun to shoot.

When you add a magwell to an officers frame do full size mags fit flush?

No, the magazine I have in it in the pics is one of the new Wilson Combat compact 9mm ETM's.

Very nice. The commander length slide with an officer size frame is one of my favorite 1911 configurations.

Gosh darn it - my twins are NEVER going to go to college at this rate! That is one beautiful pistol, and PRECISELY my favorite configuration (Commander slide over an officer's frame). Eagerly awaiting the range report, and the butt chewing I'm going to get from my financial advisor over this...

Got it out to the range this afternoon, but only had time for 50 rounds.

It shoots great, and there were no issues. Very soft shooting, and feels no different than shooting my commander-sized 9mm's.

I shot paper with it at 10 and 15 yards, checking POA/POI, and then shot steel at 50 yards. I'm VERY happy with it, and look forward to shooting it more.
