I started shooting primarily 9mm 1911's 4 or 5 years ago (before they were cool), and have been carrying a Commander-sized 9mm on duty (plainclothes) for a few years now. I really like the 9mm 1911's, and, in my opinion, Wilson Combat and Dan Wesson probably do them better than anyone else.
So, in late April, I contacted Keith Lawton at Dan Wesson and asked him to build me a CCO (officer frame, Commander slide) in 9mm. I've always liked the CCO design, and briefly owned one in .45 a few years ago.
Working with Keith, I spec'd out the CCO to include Straight 8 sights, a Wilson Combat round-butt magwell, and 25 LPI checkering on the frame, instead of the chainlink they normally put on the CCO's.
The price he quoted me was much less than I expected, but I think he gave me a LEO discount, and I also supplied the grips and the magwell.
After about 3 months of waiting, it shipped a couple days ago, and I picked it up today. I haven't shot it yet, but I'm very happy with the build. I think it looks great. I normally prefer thin grips on my 1911's, but I think the standard thickness grips on this gun make it feel great in my hand.
