I grew up reading his articles in Combat Handguns. Very sharp guy. He will be missed.

I wish I'd met him. The way Farmer Frank talked about him, he didn't actually hang the moon, but he did tell them where to put the nail. And Frank wasn't the kind of guy to throw praise around lightly.

His was one of the first books I bought when I started carrying. Damn shame.

Sad to hear this. I read him for years and got to actually sit and talk with him for about an hour at the snubby summit back in 2004. My strong impression became that Walt was a real gentleman and a very serious person. There was not a big ego there and he had a genuine concern for others, and a desire to pass on the things he had learned that kept him safe.

One of the things he told me was that he saw a big gap between what many people actually understood about the worst of the criminal community and the reality of how bad the really evil people are. He wanted to do his best to open the eyes of people who were simply never exposed to this truth the way he was. A mission to change mindsets is how I would characterize what he told me was important to him.

I think he made a great contribution. RIP

Once had the privilege of "holding the timer" to start Walt on a take for Shooting Gallery. He and Michael Bane had a genuine friendly report and while the squad that had to wait was a little pissy, I have to admit to being slightly thrilled to be almost but not quite famous for a second time in my less than illustrious shooting career, simply for being in proximity to this fine gentleman.

*sad sigh*

We are losing a great generation of teachers way too rapidly.

RIP Walt Rauch.

I was priviledged to have met Mr. Rauch at one of the NTIs back in 90s and corresponded with him a few times in the years since. Another loss to the community; fortunately he took the time to memorialize some of his hard earned knowledge. Rest in peace.
