View Full Version : Let's talk about SIG's red dot sights

I just played with the Romeo, 5,7, and the RMR one (forgot number). They feel beef, they look awesome, and I want them.

The RMR version had a HUGE field of view, it was so clear I had to run it around to make sure it had glass in it.

Anybody have any experience with these yet? I know they are new..

Did I hear correctly that they are going to offer some sort of milled 320 with their rmr as a package?

Mark Housel told me he thought the Romeo 1 looked like a great pistol optic, when he handled it at SHOT.

Are they available for purchase yet without a slide attached to them, and do they work with a plate supplied with the Glock MOS?

The Romeo 4 interests me - a micro style red dot with a larger ring (similar to EOCrap).

Didn't see the 4. The RMR interested me enough that I want to shoot carry optics with it.

The red dot I saw was a different shape then that one GJM? That's odd... Might go back tomorrow and get pictures.

If I get a CO gun it will be a 320. I wish team sig would notice my mediocrity and offer me a spot on the team so I could just have free SIG's. Until then I'll save my pennies like a good little shooter.

I would look hard at the 320 carry, if it is anything like the Glock MOS pistols. I have two 34, two 17, and more 19 MOS. The shorter slide 19 definitely out shoots the 17 and 34 in my hands, despite my preference for the full size grip.

The Carry (stupid name) is the sweet spot of the 320 lineup. An equivalent Glock would have a 19 slide on a 17 frame. On the timer, the Carry yields faster recovery and transitions than the FS. The FS was better at 25, but Mark Housel installed a DP on my Carry slide and I am nailing my 6” steel at 25; way better than irons. For me, this pistol beats the G19 MOS or ATOM guns. The setup seemed a bit tall at first, but a bunch of DF practice solved the first shot dot issue.

Sssshhhhhhh!!! Don't say that :(

I thought that myself, and really the primary arms dots are pretty good, they are no aimpoint, but for what they are they be good. Hopefully this is a step above the primary arms. I really want to buy one and try and break it. Just need $150 to break.

My lgs just got a "sig store". I've been a Glock guy and after visiting I really appreciate the beauty of a sig. If I ever stray from Glock it'll be for sig.

That said, they had a bunch of sig optics and I snapped some pics but it turns out they didn't have any of the new ones.

Yes I did. I don't have much knowledge on optics or red dots but I was surprised at how crisp the dot was and how small it was. I've looked through some cheap red dots before and they always had a starburst appearance to them because I have astigmatism.

On EOTechs the ring was fuzzy, especially as you made it brighter. I'm hoping Sig has a better way of creating it.

Disclosure: I don't know poop about poop about Sig's optics, how/where their made, or how they operate. Having said that, if the ring/dot reticle is produced through holography, like the EOTech, I would run, not walk, away from it, unless you want to have never ending issues with thermal drift. And, no, I'm not an expert on holography or an engineer of any kind, but I've spoken to quite a few over the last couple of years.

If they're projecting that ring image onto the lense with a direct projection like Aimpoint's dots, I'd be much less worried.

Hmm. So it wasn't so much a problem with EOTech being shady as the technology isn't there yet? Luckily I'm not in a hurry. The rifle I want this for is still in pieces and I expect the Form 1 to clear in a year. Lol! I can let others be beta testers.

There are some eeeeeeerie similarities between the Sig Romeo 4 series and some of the Holosun series RDS. That doesn't mean the Sig's are crap and will get you killed. If it's a good scope it's a good scope no matter who made it. iPhones are made in a China as is 99% of the stuff we consume.

Sig Romeo 4 = $160

aimpoint T-2 = $700

Some people (me) don't need the aimpoint. I've shot 20 rounds through my rifle this year.

Some of us want quality inexpensive items to try before committing to something of far better quality and robustness to figure out what they do and do not like. Personally I keep going between wanting an MRO and an AccuPower, but snagging something like a Holosun and Burris MTAC works to give me a better idea of what works for me and which I'll ultimately go with. That and I can always move the budget optics to the "training gun" and keep the GOOD stuff for my go-to gun.

Exactly. I'm not expecting to get Aimpoint or Trijicon quality out of a Primary Arms or Burris inexpensive optic. Ultimately I know how to aim with irons, but I'd rather have an example of each to screw around with to determine what works for me before dropping good money on something that I'll ultimately end up not liking and then try to sell off and lose more money than what I would have spent on a PA or Burris.

Let's just pretend for a moment that Sig optics were truly junk and fell apart every time Max used one.

Would he say that as his reason for using a C-More on his Instagram? His response was about the only one he could use without creating a firestorm.

I looked through the Romeo 4 (same one 1776United looked at, same shop) and I thought it was really slick. I've never been an EOtech guy, but if you like that circle-dot, it seemed like a winner. Very crisp reticle.

Just at a casual glance at my LGS, I like the Romeo 4 better than the Trijicon MRS. The Trijicon gives me some awkward magnification and blue hue. Maybe it's just me. Is the Trijicon more durable? I would think so.

I accidentally dropped a Romeo 4 on a tile floor, from a few feet, when I was mounting it last spring. Cracked the lens, making it unusable. Sig replaced it, after a few months, but an Aimpoint seems much tougher.

Cool thanks. Not going to be a hard use gun, and I don't have aimpoint $$ for this project.

How did you like it while it worked?

Considering a PA Micro Advanced, Vortex SPARC II or this to go atop a HD 870. A couple hundred rounds per year in Bolke's Shotgun class is likely all it will ever see. I don't have any red dot experience yet, but the circle dot seems like it would suit the role well. (Fast pick up at close range, not because I think 65MOA is how my shotgun patterns.)

My wife and I prefer the single dot mode on a carbine, but the big reticle could be good on a shotgun. It is decent but you know it is not an Aimpoint when you handle it.
