View Full Version : Best use of GSSF coupon?

I've been debating for a few weeks now which Glock to add to the stable, I currently have a 43, 26, and a 19. I also have a M&P 9 FS, Pro, and Shield (used to be an M&P guy, and the wife still likes them) so the full size pistols are covered. I consolidated to 9mm several years ago, and have been happy with that choice, so other calibers are out. I just can't make up my mind on the next one to get. Should I go the boring route and get a duplicate of the 19 or the 26? The 26 gets carried the most often followed by the 19. My wife has suggested I get a Glock 17 and call it good, and I might, but I have a feeling it will be too big to carry. I don't shoot much competition anymore so I fear a 17 or a 34 would just sit in the safe...

I've also thought about getting a 17 with the plan of chopping the grip, but then I think if that's the plan, I should just get another 19.

Thoughts?

Don't forget the Gen 3 or Gen 4 decision. ;)

Jesus, and I'm here thinking I'm just fine with one handgun.

Glocks are all almost identical, I'd just sell the coupon if I didn't have a glaring need for another.

Best use of that would be to sell it and buy a Sig product.

The boring answer is a really good answer. Buy a duplicate of what you carry, so that you can practice without worrying that a lack of PM is going to get you killed.

Buy a copy of the one you carry.

I would go with a Gen4 G17-they're actually quite easy to carry concealed-or another G19.

Alternatively, if you're concerned at all about a potential 9mm ammunition shortage in the event there's another ammunition craze, you might want to consider a Gen4 G22 in .40. Just a thought...

If you shoot GSSF, I'd suggest getting a G21 so you can shoot "Heavy Metal" and win more pistols. You can shoot the 21 in HM, Competition, Amature, Master Stock, etc.

Congrats on the GSSF win! I would get a second G4 G19.

Save it for the upcoming carbine.

Too soon?

No, seriously, I vote for A) duplicate 19 or B) the 17 cut to 19 mag idea (duplicate 19 with more sight radius) C) start the old man transition to an optic sight now or, finally, D) help a new shooter get their Honda accord own G19.

What about the hints of the G17M or G19M models coming soon? I have personally debated whether to use a GSSF discount coupon now, or wait for the fall...

The nerd/collector in me screams that you need a G17G4. Collect 'em all!

The practical person says another G19 wouldn't be a bad idea.

I just stopped by the LGS and fondled the 17 and the 19 (my 19 has been undercut) and the 17 feels much better in my hand. As a result of this, I'm thinking I want to get a 17 and cut it down to 19 length, probably like this:https://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?11159-G17-4-into-G19L

Feel free to tell me I'm wrong, It just seems like its what I should do... even though it feels like a bad idea.

I'd get the G17, try the G17-for at least, say, 500 rounds. Then if you feel so inspired, by all means proceed to chop it. But I wouldn't do it from the get-go. In my opinion, it's more of an issue of how you index to a G17 (vs., say, a G19) than one of concealibility. While the G19 (or similar) is undeniably easier to conceal due to the abbreviated receiver, the biggest difference is how you index with the increased "hump" inherent to the G17s backstrap configuration. A G17 inherently simply just is not all that difficult to conceal, or carry concealed.

Best, Jon

I would look at the 34. IME I don't see anything too dramatic performance wise between the 19 and 17, but I do between the 19 and 34. If not, I would get another 19 for the sake of having redundancy and with uncertain political times looming.

So what ever it is I would get one with the RMR cut. If you've ever wanted to mess around with an RMR doing it with basically a free pistol would be the time.

The models that you can get are printed on the certificate, would a newer model net yet on it be eligible?
