Looking for a Colt M45A1 AIWB holster source. Contacted JM Custom, no dice, he does not have a mold yet. I REALLY want to turn this M45A1 into my EDC. Also for those not familiar the M45A1 has a Mil-STD 1913 Pic rail that is larger than standard railed 1911's. Raven makes a Phanotm but no AIWB's...

Any other leads or ideas guys?

I just acquired an M45 myself.. So not yet. I may order one to try out for myself.i would prefer a 1.5" clip though.... Easy enough to change out.

No idea, but I'm telling you right now, they may show a picture of that holster being worn AIWB, but it IS NOT a AIWB holster.

Noticed and asked. This is their response

Azerious-

The IWB variant we make has zero cant on it. It must have been a goofy angle on the picture.

Definitely give Tom at DarkStar some thought since he says he can do it. I've got an aiwb from each of the big four(for glocks) and his is the one i wear everyday. He does good work.

But there is definitely cant in the holster pictured, including the AIWB pics, and the product description is as follows...

SSV In-The-Belt Holster, Appendix/Kidney
Continuing development of the SSV Holster Line, FirstSpear has been hard at work to bring you a deeper concealment holster with the versatility that EDC requires. Available for all standard stock pistols without light in the FS SSV Line and all standard colors this holster has some unique attributes that are sure to make it your favorite. An easy to use molded J Hook lets you attach and remove the holster without undoing your LIne 1 Belt, a back up lanyard can be installed in case the J Hook becomes disengaged from your belt (removable if not desired). Lastly the holster body provides a complete wrap at the muzzle to facilitate protection of key body parts from a hot muzzle during repetitive training drills. jhook is canted at a 15 forward angle and accepts up to an inch and 3/4 belt.

Something is amiss, just not sure what.

I would suggest DSG.

This. I don't AIWB but I'm wearing a DSG holster as I type this. Highly recommended.

Correct. As this forum knows it and as the rest of the world should be forced to adopt an AIWB holster has at least one AIWB feature. Claw, wing, belt wedge, muzzle wedge, or extension there is a difference.

All that said... One of the biggest lies in this "industry" is that one needs an AIWB holster to carry AIWB. Many do just fine with a standard straight drop IWB.

Anyone know what or if any safariland holsters will work for the m45a1 w/x300?

I was going to, honestly, but it hit the mail and it was too cold to go get it.

Bump since i'm receiving a new Colt Combat Unit .45 that has the same dimensions of the M45A1 and am looking for a good AIWB kydex with a wing, emailed JM Custom kydex so I will see if they offer it.

Hard to go wrong with JMCK, But as others have suggested, Dark Star Gear is impressive kit too. I wear one daily.

DarkStar Gear designed me an AIWB holster for my 9mm CCU 1911. It's sort of a prototype/testbed rig, but it works well. Personally I like to carry a 1911 AIWB moreso than a Glock.

JMCK does offer a holster for it; I know because I bought one from them right after they got the mold last year...I think it was last year anyway; tempis fugit...

I also have a First Spear X300A holster for this gun, which is very nice.

Looking at the 2.5. I would assume it would be plenty of tuck without the "extra tuck" factor.

There is plenty of tuck, but if you're a fat guy like me, the extra leverage comes in handy :D

Guys, we discontinued the M45A1, the mold needed a lot of work to make it work, and the demand for that model hasn't warranted me going with a CNC mold for it. As always however, if we get enough interest for it, we will get the CNC mold.

Thanks

Could a normal railed holster be modded by the m45a1 user? How much difference is there?

Ironically today I got a call from Tony checking up on some details of a 2.0 for my MC Operator.

No. I've got an Orion for it coming, just haven't gotten the machine time yet.

This would apply to all recent production Colt Rail Guns then, because they all have the same dimensions as the M45A1. The older Rail Guns had a different rail but shortly after introduction of the Marine pistol they started making them all to the same specification.

Correct. The bottom of the rail sits 1/8"-3/16" lower than a standard Springfield railed 1911. This creates an area that captures the rail in holsters and is a bitch to block out and even worse to heat gun way if you're an enthusiastic DIY'er. The rails are sharp and if you're not getting decent clearance the scratches that will result lead to cracking.
