Treated myself to survival through first couple months of fatherhood and through the last decade of my 20s. Managed to scrounge up an older Sig P229 with enough change leftover to nab some Hogue factory second aluminum grips.

Wanted to get a pre-2005 Sig and I think I got one... Serial # range AK 26xxx.

I think it was born around 2000, are there any big parts I should consider upgrading soon?

Also was wondering what thinner night options were out there?
Looks like Heinie and Dawson might be the best bets? Was originally attracted to Amerigl ProGlo and Trijicon HDs but DIY paint looks appealing too.

Thanks in advance for all the helpful posts.

Top Gun Supply: P229 Parts Kit (http://store.sigsauer.com/parts-kit-p229-9mm.html)

I don't know about upgrades. I would start with updating the springs and slide pin. Replacing the slide pin sucks. I'll have a gun smith replace it next time mine is due.

Cheers,

I'd put some Vibra-Tite VC-3 on the grip screws. Aluminum grips like to shoot loose and it's too easy to strip out the frame threads on a Sig. I'd personally stick with the stock or wood grips.

1) spring replacement
2) Short Reset Trigger
3) loctite grip screws.

+1

The Achilles heel of the P229 40/357 is the thinnest of the mag wells, and thus less threading for screwing in the grip screws. You need to be careful not to over-tighten grip screws or you might strip them out.

The AK serial number denotes a 2009 pistol.

The only other items not yet mentioned as far as maintenance or upgrades I might recommend would be swapping the mainspring, main spring base and mainspring strut out to current gen versions.

Mine has an AK serial number, and I bought it in 2001.

The AKs were manufactured in the early 2000s. If you were looking at Sig Forums for the date, sometimes that info can be confusing as the person who posted the information sometimes just mentions that they bought it on such & such date.......not the actual manufacturing date confirmed by Sig Sauer.

Replace the recoil spring and mag springs then oil and shoot! See how you like it for the next couple of years and then send it off to Sig for a refurb, it's short $.

My Dept. P229s were AK serial # and purchased in early 2000. Sig Custom Shop service package $84.95, you get it back with new springs, detailed cleaning and everything checked and OK'd.
