Week 164: 15 in 10

Results may be posted until June 13th, 2016.

Designed by: Mike Pannone
Range: varies, see below
Target: USPSA Metric
Start Position: Holstered, with hands at sides or hands at high torso
Rounds Fired: 15

String 1: At the start signal, draw and fire five rounds at 20 yards. Record your time and hits.

String 2: At the start signal, draw and fire five rounds at 10 yards. Record your time and hits.

String 3: At the start signal, draw and fire five rounds at 5 yards. Record your time and hits.

You are allowed one C-zone shot per string - the rest should be As. Add the times for all three strings. The goal is to have all three runs meet the accuracy standard and total less than ten seconds.

Please report the following when you post your results in this thread:

Equipment used (pistol, holster, optional concealment garment if one was used)
Total time
Total number of A-zone hits, C-zone hits, etc.
Pass or Fail
Anything you noticed

All about those 20 yard hits.. Slowed down to get all A zone hits. I'll go faster next time since I'm allowed a C.

I didn't make time nor hits. 4 C's were from the 20 yard run. For some reason I was focused on the lower part of the A zone(possibly because of how it was taped with it being the most clean/tapeless area of the A zone) and then proceeded to pull 2 into the low part of the C zone and 2 left into the C zone. After realizing my mistake, I intentionally aimed at the more taped upper part of the A zone and cleaned the 10yd portion. The other C was on the 5 yard string. I ran it another time with worse results, as I let the speed thing get into my head and threw more shots slower...go figure. I was close enough that I feel it is attainable but I will need to be on point and be shooting my best. Definitely not a par I can make without a fair amount of effort.

Glock19 w/RMR Fricke AIWB holster, t shirt concealment.
Time; first run 11.86 2C's, best of 6 runs 10.52 1C.
Fail

This is probably a fairly easy test for some of the better shooters. Heck Gabe can probably make the standard SHO. For me it is difficult but at least within the realm of possibility. I put my first and best run in just to show that improvement can happen. Of course the hardest stage for me is the 20 yard one, but I probably have the most room for improvement on the 10 yard stage where my time to first shot was way to slow.

String 1: 4.44 (2C)
String 2: 3.01 Clean
String 3: 2.27 Clean

Total time: 9.72 The extra C on the first run made it a fail....

9.9 seconds. Hey, it's still in time haha

Decided to go slow at the 10 because I figured I'd rush at 10 feeling comfortable and throw a shot. Took my time and still threw a C lol close C though! Decided to just hammer it out at 5 yards.

M&P 9 Compact, JMCK AIWB, hoodie for concealment

Shot this twice today.

First run:

String 1: 4.05 3 C's
String 2: 3.64 all A's
String 3: 2.56 all A's

Total: 10.25 sec.

FAIL for both time and excessive C's

Second run:

String 1: 5.30 1 C
String 2: 2.93 all A's
String 3: 2.42 1 C

Total: 10.35 sec.

FAIL for over time limit.

Need to work on this - not as easy as it first sounds.

The range where I shot this doesn't have either a 5-yard line or a 20-yard line, so I shot at 10, 15, and 25 yards.

Equipment used: Gen4 G19, Ameriglo front sight, Dawson adjustable rear. Holster was a K-rounds IWB at 3:00. S&B 124-grain ammo. No concealment.
Total time: 12.26 seconds
25 yards: 5.46 seconds, three C's (the two wide ones and the low one)
15 yards: 4.08 seconds, all A's
10 yards: 3.08 seconds, one C (the center one)

One attempt, failed.

Anything I noticed:
1. The way I hung this target made it hard to see the head on my club's 25-yard line. I think that I held for the center of what I could see the most easily, which explains the low hits.
2. I was short on time, so I fired one five-shot group at 25 then shot for record. A little warm-up might have improved my score. Or not. I may shoot it again this weekend if I have time.
3. Not too proud of this one.

Sorry I can't remember the specific times however I ran this drill under Mike Pannone's supervision and made 18 in 10 with 1 Charlie.

Pistol was an Ed Brown SF in .45 ACP
Comp-Tac belt holster
17 A's, 1 Charlie
Pass - under 10 Sec.

Mike's Advanced Pistol Class in 2014.

There was an instructor from the Sig Academy in the class (Steve Gilchrist) who made time and score for 21 in 10.

Gen 4 Glock 17K, Ready Tactical OWB holster, no concealment.

Shot this drill on consecutive days (30th and 31st May)

On the 31st I clocked 15.78 seconds.

I had 2 Ds and 1 C, the rest were A but the D gets me another fail.

The attempt on the 30th had 1 B and 1 C but I failed to record the time. I am pretty sure I flunked the time, regardless of my hits.

In my head prior to shooting this I thought it straightforward. It was sobering to fail it twice.

Without a time limit I know I can make the required accuracy. I am still learning how to speed up. On my most recent range trip I shot 2x95 in "The Test" with a time of 8.44s and I think that the penny dropped finally about not waiting for the perfect sight picture and the importance of grip and how that will return your aim to the target. Looking forward to shooting more DOTW.
