A meme has been circulating which purports to guide Bernie Sanders supporters on how to make their own glow sticks. Evidently, it doesn't result in a glow stick, it results in a chlorine bomb. I notice that the Wiki article itself does not specify what to add to the chlorine to make it. Like most, I knew abut chlorine (bleach) and ammonia.

Pool chlorine is some nasty stuff and shouldn't be played with, there are a lot of toxic gases that can be released.

A garbage man got killed a couple years ago when powdered pool chlorine and Coca cola got mixed while he was running the compactor at the back of the truck. Mustard gas is a byproduct. He went down and died a couple days later. The driver that went to check on him also went down, survived but had lung injuries from breathing the gas and was blinded in one eye. Two firefighters were also injured by the gas. Just some nasty stuff.

Vast majority of people can't be bothered to do anything that goes beyond an app on their smartphone. Problem is, you get some gullible person, probably an innocent kid, who reads this, has all the components in his or her house, and shows a little ambition by doing a "science project' and next thing you know that rare asset, an intelligent, self motivated youth is in the hospital or dead. And the next question is always "where were the parents?" Probably playing stupid games on their i-device.

Yeah, plenty of ways to achieve that effect, some much less predictable/safe than others. Methods that involve caustic/toxic chemicals just seem like a recipe for hurting yourself, but I suppose it's all dependent on what you have access to and how invincible/drunk/high/stupid you feel on any given night. Can't say I was ever involved in any shenanigans of that type, but we were all aware of the basic physics/chemistry required back in high school. I don't imagine much has changed in that regard, except for the internet making the information even easier to get.
