12" brass rod for $4: http://www.amazon.com/Unpolished-Finish-Temper-0-3125-Diameter/dp/B000H9JY1K?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

Cut into a 4.5" and a 7.5" rod for handy lengths for snubbies or full sized. Filed the edges smooth and put a bit of electrical tape around the edge.

I use exaclty that, as close a fit as I can find for the caliber of the bore. Don't even worry about the tape though.

Semi-necro-post here. (At what point does a zombie thread cease to be viable...?)

I honestly don't remember seeing this thread when it was first made, but a couple of weeks ago I searched "squib rod" on Amazon and it took me to this product; if you read the ratings, the most common usage seems to be a squib rod that is less expensive than the purpose built ones Brownell's sells, and more durable than the Arredondo (sp?) product. (Love the guy who posted a small rant in reply to one of the comments, "I don't care what you use it for, just tell me how it was packaged and how fast you got it!" WTF, dude?)

The wife has some stuff she calls "dip-it" she uses to put handles on her jewelry making tools, so I may try and use that instead of tape for a handle, but otherwise, I think this will make another good hopefully-never-used addition to the range bag.

If you click the link that says "see all products on this family" they have brass rods in 12-96" lengths and from .0625-5" diameter, so if you ever wanted to make your own brass cannon...

I did the same thing and it works like a charm.
