Gen4 G22, 3,124 rounds to first broken part

On my last range trip I had a disturbingly high number of premature slide locks (1-3 per magazine). At first I thought maybe it was me, since I have had issues with premature slide locks on Glocks due to my grip before but thought I had it sorted out. Stripped the handgun for cleaning afterwards and noticed very little downward tension on the slide catch and I couldn't see the tip of the slide catch spring that usually extends past the locking block pin back towards the magazine well. Detail stripped the gun and sure enough, the spring had broken. Sad day. At least the replacement part is cheap and I had one handy. Only 3,124 rounds through the gun since issued.

I had exactly the same failure on 3d Gen Glock 19 at 8606 rounds.

Happened to me at a tactical response class.

At first I couldn't figure out what I was doing to make the gun do that, so Gomez shot it.

When he found it did the same thing for him, he saw it was the same spring and fixed it for me.

I believe Glock unofficially recommends changing the part every 20k but it may be more often.

Rule of the shooting universe: springs break.
Corollary to rule of the shooting universe: some springs break earlier than they're supposed to.

Having said that... I'm over 40,000 rounds on my Vickers slide release.

The .40 cal Glocks do take more abuse in strange ways than the 9mm variants, too. My friend in the police academy broke the firing pin on her gen 3 G22 somewhere around round 9000

That was probably the single most common broken part on the rental Glocks when I worked at the range.

Come to think of it, except for the odd extractor, it was the only common broken part.
