Pat is gone. He was a tower of information to me, a mentor, a friend and someone whom I aspired to be like as a trainer. We will not see his like again, but he set an example that we should all strive for each and every day.

Rest in Peace, brother.

No kidding. Wayne and I were going together to do Pat's last pistol shoot house class in June. Pat called me last week and said "hey DB, bring .38 Ammo and some revolvers." Pat was bringing his old Ruger .38 that I loved and we were all going to run the shoot house together with revolvers just like the old days. I cannot believe how big of a hole there is in my heart right now. On the other hand...there are a lot of tails waging on the Rainbow bridge, and Vallhala welcomed a giant today.

I was so looking forward to meeting him this fall in a class. Now I hope I have the privilege to render him a proper salute someday.

We are diminished, beyond description. I'm can't even begin to type out how much influence Pat had on the industry and such a positive influence he has had on peoples lives. I was hoping like hell that I would be able to make it to a class with him this year, specifically the one he did every year in Georgia/SC area with the Blue Force Gear guys. I've had many personal friends train with him and through them and his influence on others he made me a better shooter and with in that a better peace officer. The man lived an epic life and I hope I can live a tenth of how he did.

Damn it. :(

I'm reminded of a quote I saw passed around when Awerbuck passed. "When an old man dies. A library burns to the ground." I regret never making it out to one of his classes, but I'm glad to have learned what I did from following his online postings over the years, mainly on lightfighter. He was a fountain of knowledge about NYPD history, the AR15, old warplanes, military history, and just about anything having to do with "gunfuckinfighting" both present and past.

I was at the funeral and the wake. It was rough emotionally but a fitting tribute to a warrior. John Murphy of http://fpftraining.com barely slept this past week as he and one other individual bent over backwards arranging the funeral and helping Pat's widow take care of arrangements. The rifle salute and John's speech while holding Filthy14 moved myself and many others to tears.

Pat, I miss you.
