Primarily concerned with noise. Is there a (no permit or stamp required) muzzle device that truly directs rifle muzzle blast forward?

Im seriously considering trying one of these, for exactly the reason of muzzle blast/noise.

One of the reviews a guy mentioned using an SBR in the line in a class or range, he asked if the noise bothered the people on either side of him and they didn't know why he asked.

Saw another review elsewhere comparing a number of devices. that one seemed to be comparable to the A2 in flash suppression, not bad in recoil, and noticeably better than many in noise reduction to the shooter.

I haven't seen that one yet. That website list several interesting products. Thanks for the info.

You would think if these were so effective there would be some Db reduction published results from the shooter and bystander locations.

Looks like a linear compensator. I haven't used one but have used the Bulgarian 4 piece muzzle device which is similar. The muzzle blast to the sides was noticeably reduced.

PWS CQB is probably the best for this that is a non-stamp item.

Other than that, noveske pig and if you are planning on getting a can (gemtech specifically) get a gemtech muzzle device (http://www.gem-tech.com/store/pc/QUICKMOUNTS-c15.htm) of your liking and get a blast jacket (http://www.gem-tech.com/store/pc/BLAST-JACKET-15p1106.htm).

I have one of these comps on my 6.5 Grendel 20 inch AR. It is definitely not loud like a regular 3 gun style comp but not sure it really reduces recoil, etc. that much either. BRT normally puts them on sale on any excuse of a holiday.

The Noveske PIG ones kind of do. They were the rage for a short while... they're similar to a Bulgarian muzzle device which was used as an expansion chamber to increase backpressure on short gas system guns.

For me, the noise reduction would be plenty worthwhile, besides that its pretty reasonably priced and is clean, looks about like a stock A2 unless you look closely.

Is it quieter than a bare barrel?

That is a good question - I do not know. I have two 6.5 Grendel AR rifles. 1) one set up for competition type shooting and it is heavy and has a WCI brake - this rifle is a dream to shoot with minimal recoil but the WCI brake is loud. 2) one set up "light" for a hunting AR - this rifle is a dream to carry but has more recoil that the "target" 6.5G rifle but much quieter. There are a number of threads on the BRT "linear comp" on the 6.8Forum - I bought my first one for a 6.8 upper when I was looking for a "quiet" compensator.

Thanks. Anyone who has multiple 6.5G is good by me:-) If you decide to do any comparisons, please keep us updated. I have a TBAC break attach on my 6.5G, and am thinking of removing it.

It wouldn't be quieter, but it would direct the muzzle blast a little farther away from the shooter, which might make it seem a little quieter.

If you light up a gun with a linear comp or blast shield or whatever in an enclosed space and it's still going rattle your teeth. It's more of a range item IMO.

I tried a linear comp and there is a noticeable difference Outside. It's more of a reduction in felt muzzle blast, I don't feel it as much, but it AINT quiet.
Works OK for what it is. If you want quiet, Subsonic with a can, but you really can't do that with 556.
