Hello all,
Quick question to the hive mind, local fun shop has a couple used shotguns on the rack that looked interesting today.

A Mossberg 930 JM Pro series for $680
A P Beretta 1201 FP for $700

are either of these a screening deal or a train wreck/unreliable?

Lost a shot at a nice Beneli M4 there couple weeks ago trying to do my due diligence. so figured I'll run it up the flag pole.

Thank you all.

The best paraphrased comment I've heard in regard to the 930 is, "if Mossberg can't make Jerry Miculek's run reliably, it's not a gun I'm going to trust."

Granted, I'll be the first to say that when it comes to semi auto guns I'm biased towards the 1301 and anything withing a couple hundred dollars of one ($800-850) I'd have a hard time considering.

Per the actual prices of the two guns you mentioned, I'd call them "ok" but not something to beat yourself up over for passing on (that's simply my opinion and others may very well differ.)

I had a Beretta 1201FP and was not impressed. It had significantly more recoil (in my opinion) than other similar shotguns. $700 seems high also. There is a huge thread on the Brian Enos forum about 3 Gun style shotguns that you may find helpful. Many threads on the Mossberg 930 JM PRO.

I had a 1201fp about 4 1/2 years ago. Would cycle all but the cheapest birdshot and was a lot of fun. It was worth about $450-500 back then, and that was with ghost rings, a choate pistol grip stock, and a side saddle shell carrier so unless it's got all that AND a Surefire fore end I doubt it's worth $700 these days.

Idk about the beretta, but run away from the 930. get a stoeger M3K, add a Nordic tube and shabaam. Sweet gun that had the older Beneli tech.
