And no grenades?

Looks like maybe one smoke or WP?

Probably used them all...

Good to see Celox in action, I was told it is in wide use in the eastern block.

No knife, either. No handgun, no grenades, no knife. Seems odd to me.

Starting to think its not exactly a complete gear loadout. Some of the good stuff may have been confiscated for personal use already. Daesh, unfortunately, probably isn't catering to the gear whores that want a total loadout pic.

Bastards. I want to see what knives the Russians are carrying these days!

FYI: If one searches Spetsnaz on Instagram, you can find a lot of training/action shots, that are clearly actually real. There is also a lot of staged/shopped up stuff too.

Also keep in mind that what gear queers would wear and use is usually drastically different than the guys in those units would wear and use for their specific mission(s).

They're Muslim; they'd rather have a whippin'.

Judging from the mine detection/clearing equipment in the photo the Russians are also taking the IED threat to their forces seriously as well, been wondering how they would address that issue. Seems tech is also their solution.... As to a pistol, I'd just consider it extra useless weight to carry around during a patrolling or Reconnaissance mission set, which is what his gear selection leads me to believe he was tasked with.

The article speculates he was an EOD guy. The device sitting above the first magazine on the right is a sort of grenade, evidently used as an "anti-mine" device. Video of jihadis digging through the equipment - the deceased is pixelated.

The lack of NODs, an IR laser, and body armor are pretty interesting.

As noted above, it's not a complete gear layout. Plus I believe there is a night vision or thermal optic mounted to the rifle.

I'm trying to find it but some corner of the Internet had the actual optic information and a video tutorial of how it works from the company. It was some high speed whiz bang stuff, similar to tracking-point. Internal ballistic calculator, thermal, the whole nine yards. Assuming that's what it really is and they are correct, I'm impressed at how small it is.

The rifle pictured is a heavily customised AK-74M self-loading rifle. The Ak-74M is a selective-fire, gas-operated self-loading rifle chambered for the 5.45 x 39 mm cartridge. It is a development of the AK-74 rifle, first introduced in 1974, itself a derivative of the ubiquitous Avtomat Kalashnikova (AK) series of rifle. In 1991, the AK-74M was introduced into Russian military service; it is most readily identified by its side-folding solid polymer stock, black polymer furniture, and sling swivels, as well as the distinctive muzzle brake of earlier AK-74 series rifles. This particular example is fitted with a range of post-manufacture accessories, including an adjustable buttstock, a CAA fore end with multiple accessory rails, top accessory rail, and alternative pistol grip. The rifle is also fitted with a suppressor in place of the distinctive muzzle brake, and an IWT 336 Tsiklop (‘Cyclops’) thermal weapon sight with backup Docter CQB reflex sight. The weapon and its magazines have been painted in a camouflage scheme.

These dudes are claiming its it the IWT 336 thermal.

The one you are thinking of is the IWT 640 ‘Haron’ thermal weapon sight - it supposed to be able to synchronize with iOS devices to function like a tracking point.
