Got the final photo from outstanding Gunsmith Chris James at Conbat Precision of my 10mm getting ready to make its way home. Hopefully I'll get to shoot it before next year. He does great work, good prices, and communication was top notch! Didn't wait as long as I thought either. He is not as famous as many, though his work is on par with the best of them. He has two more full house builds commissioned (His/Hers) to identical specs, except caliber.

Nice. I owned a Combat Commander Chris built when he was just getting started. Good guy to deal with.

Beautiful looking gun Sean. Looks a lot like how I spec'd my WC 10mm out. Of course, it is a 1911:-) I want to know how well it shoots when you get a chance.

That's nice.

Sean M and SLG, what loads are y'all running in your 10mms?

I've got a lightweight full-size Chris made for me back in 2011. Great gun; excellent customer service.

Actually, that looks nicer than my WC. Yet another reason to hate Sean.

I don't know what Sean will run in it, but I mostly use 220gr cast bullets from...(insert name of ammo company when you remember it).

I have a stockpile of 180 JHPs donated by a benevolent benefactor.

Doubletap. 200 gr. Very accurate in my gun, and wall to wall penetration.

Those seem like a good load. Brassfetcher tested them and they got some thing like 32" out of them. I'm going to venture into loading cast 200 grain bullets soon, but I am going to test some factory offerings first. I thing Bear Tooth makes the bullets for those.

Wow, that is gorgeous. Does the pistol handle the 10mm well?

I set this gun up for hunting use, with possible bear carry on the side. Took a bit to get it up and running the way I want, and I just haven't put the time into it since getting it back. I hope to dramatically increase the rounds through it in the near future.

Very nice, Sean. May I ask what grip and thumb safeties were used? Did Mr. James do any contouring on the grip safety, or is it stock?

Odin Bravo One

Uh. Yeah.

I'd love to give details but you would honestly have to ask him. I typically give some left and right limits along with a preference or two, then let the Smith do what he does. I also try to give them a ballpark ceiling I'd like to keep it under, which for me is about $5k, sometime that is including the base gun, sometimes it's not.

In this case, I believe he did some grip safety contouring, what brand he used for the manual safety I don't know. The half chop on the right side is at my request. Sorry that isn't a better answer.

Probably end up as my EDC once I find a holster that I like. Anyone know if Milts Sparks still makes a Summer Special II?

I think that needs some JR Custom Leather to match up to a really nice social gun.

Hands down that is my favorite 1911.

Yes they do, but Brownells is a stocking dealer if you don't want to wait and can live with the brown 1.5" belt loops.

And I'm again reminded how much influence Miami Vice had on the choices I made in my young adulthood...

Now I know that that sequence is completely unrealistic, because Crockett had not only one but TWO magazines for his Bren Ten...

Is a reload with retention, while holding your extra mag in your mouth a "failure to do right?"

His tactical failures are more than redeemed by saying some bad-ass shit right before shooting a skell in the face.

Between my issues with P2000 sights and Sean's threads on 1911s I've been seriously thinking about carrying a 1911 again. Didn't help that I went out and shot way better and way faster on a dot torture with a 1911 I hadn't picked up in two years. As someone else said, I know it's a crutch but damn is it a good one, maybe even a wheelchair for my sorry ass. And yes, I know they aren't great carry guns and they're horrible mistresses, and 7-8 rounds, and manual of arms, and heavy, and a bad people-pointing trigger.... But damn, there are few things sweeter to a shooter than a fine 1911. And I even sold my really good ones!

As for Miami Vice, who else here wants to admit it affected their fashion choices of their misguided youth? No socks anyone?

And yes, I know they aren't great carry guns...

I'd say they aren't great carry guns for everyone... Some people carry them just because of what they've heard rather than because they have invested the time to really familiarize themselves with 1911 pistols.

Agreed. I find 1911's actually carry and conceal rather well because they are flat.

My wife sent me tapes while I was on deployment so I could keep current, on Miami Vice and Star Trek Next Gen. She also sent along copies of Playboy and Penthouse, the guys appreciated that.

Same. People always react with incredulity when I say I comfortably AIWB carry a 5" steel 1911 every day, but I do it. The Keeper holster works splendidly for me to the point where I don't even feel that I'm wearing the gun a lot of the time.
