Bigghoss, would you be willing to snap a photo of yourself carrying like that? I had never thought of this and I don’t think any of my jeans have watch pockets big enough to carry a G26 but I’m curious how everything would look when actually worn. Thanks.

I can at some point. I just got to work so It'll be a minimum 14 hours before I'll have a chance to do it. If I don't get to it by Saturday remind me. I'm a pretty fat guy so the love handles create a lot of space to hide a gun right there. Been slowing losing weight so we'll see how well it works in a year if things go well.

Just got this back from Wilson. It started out as a factory 92A1. I had them perform the following:
1) Reverse crown barrel
2) Checker front and back straps
3) Bevel mag well
4) Install Wilson Extended Safety
5) Supply fluted steel guide rod with factory recoil spring
6) ArmorTuff frame and parts in burnt bronze
7) Supply UltraThin Wilson grips - black

I then spent the evening performing the following:
1) Install Trijicon HD sights
2) Install factory steel trigger
3) Install Langon Tactical Trigger Job in a Bag with 14lb mainspring.
4) Install factory G-converson to de-cocker only

The result is a 6.8lb DA pull and 3.2lb SA pull. Reset is 50% shorter than factory.

Test fire begins tomorrow after work...

Traded in my 4006 TSW (not my CHP one) on this really nice PX4 compact. There's a big scratch on the other side but otherwise it looks and feels new.

I’ve begun the break in over the past week. I lubed it up with Slip 2000 EWG and hit the range with 200 rounds of 147 grain AE and 50 rounds of 147 grain HST. The only hardware hiccup was a failure to completely chamber one round of AE on a slide lock reload using the lever to release the slide. This occurred on the 3rd magazine. Otherwise, feeding and extraction were fine. From a software perspective, I short stroked the reset a couple of times likely because I’ve been shooting SRT-equipped Sigs for the past week. Accuracy was no different than any other Beretta - excellent.

Sensei,

How are you getting a 6.8/3.2lb pull with a 14lb hammer spring? I have a 12lb in my GSD with a Langdon trigger job in a bag and mine is virtually identical to yours. Just curious.

I have found some variability in the trigger pull weights and reset length across the 5 of these that I have installed with a 14 lb mainspring. I’m not exactly sure why this is, but the average DA pull weight is typically closer to 7.5 lbs and this gun is the lightest in my stable. It also had the greatest trigger reset reduction; call me lucky. I don’t think that I’m the only one experiencing this as some people with the 12 lb spring report DA pull weights as low as 6lbs.

My suspicion is that the reason is probably multifactorial, with small variations in spring tension having a large impact on downstream trigger weight. I’ve not measured this, but the standard deviation in spring tension might surprise us if we did some analysis. Also, keep in mind that I get small variations in trigger pull weight on the same gun from one pull to the next that can be chalked up to any number of reasons such as positioning of that scale on the trigger.

I bet LangdonTactical has a better answer.

Yes, there are a lot of variables for sure. The way the trigger weight is tested is one of the biggest variables. I have found electronic trigger pull scales to be very unreliable in giving true trigger weight. There is a reason that most sanctioning bodies of shooting use dead weights or NRA style weights for measuring trigger pull. Electronic systems can be very inaccurate for many reasons. At least that can be my experience.

Lubrication on the components and the trigger return spring can also make a big difference.

Recently got these in. First is a 92FS compact I bought from a member here. The thing looks brand new and hopefully I'll be able to get it to the range today.

https://scontent.fapa1-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/37132808_10156202166560219_3090826661415878656_o.j pg?_nc_cat=0&oh=d7260b7930df6b0ed7fe5ad3c71592d8&oe=5BE00C1C

And I got this 92D from Gunbroker for $250. The finish is rough but mechanically it seems good. The trigger is nice and smooth, probably in part to many trigger pulls. You can see a spot where the finish was worn away by the finger of whomever broke it in for me.

I'm planning on dropping in a Wilson Combat trigger bar and a 14# Langdon Hammer spring, Duracoating it desert sand, and having a local smith trim the barrel flush with the slide.

So what does my buddy do? He buys two NIB M9's sends them out for custom Boon-dock Saints paint, buys some high end cross bows, calls me to assemble the Berettas (and maybe have some special firearms brought out)... ANNNNNNNNDDDDDD he gets a call cancelling the whole event. Mind you, he is $3k in the hole buying toys to make the show more entertaining. The producers "felt in the current political climate, basing a episode on guns and crossbows did not fit in with the channels audience, and would be to controversial to air"...

So, they backed out and left him holding the check.
But he’s got a heck of a start on his Halloween costume for this year...

Got some VZ golf ball grips on my other 92A1. Not sure if it's because this one has grip tape on it that goes under the grips but the VZs feel just a tiny tiny bit thicker than the Stoners. The Stoners also went on easier, one of the grip screw holes on the VZs was just the tiniest bit off but it did go on. I'm not sure which I like more. If the thickness were exactly the same I'd go with the Stoner but I think I like that little extra thickness of the VZ. I'll have to put some grip tape on the gun with the Stoners and see what that does.

Added some grip tape to the gun with the Stoner grips and it did make the grip feel thicker just a tiny amount, right where I want it to be. The Stoner super aggressive grips are my preferred of the two now but I just ordered a set of used Cool Hand grips from Amazon and I would like to try some Houge G10 grips.

Bigghoss
08-27-2018, 02:59 AM
Playing around with some more grips today. The blue ones are from Cool Hand available on Amazon. The fit was maybe the tiniest bit loose but almost imperceptible. The only reason I even noticed is because they dropped on easier than any of my others so I made a point to wiggle them around before putting the screws in. Texture is nice, not the most aggressive but aggressive enough. But it doesn't go up as high on the right side as it does on the left so the pattern isn't symmetrical, which I didn't know when I ordered.

The Lower gun is my M9-22. I put a set of my LTT ultra thin grips on it in case I take someone to the range that has small hands.

I very much doubt you will be disappointed.

Not disappointed at all!

Did have to break an edge by the tang that was too square and sharp, and the inlet for the trigger bar needed a few moments with the dremel to allow the trigger bar vertical movement needed for the safety to engage when the hammer was already at rest. So, not perfect out of the bag, but the fit and grip texture are great. They are slightly more oval shaped, have just enough more bulk to suit my long hands and fingers, and even without grip tape on the frame, make the grip solid and secure without any slip. I had been considering trip tape, and now don’t even care about it.

Think I need to get some O rings to replace the washers so the screw heads don’t stick up that littlest bit that they do. That’s more of a visual preference than functional: I don’t notice it in hand, and only see it when I look for it.

I didn't realize when I traded for it, that the M9A1 didn't have a dovetail front sight. Shame on me for being an idiot and not knowing what I was buying.

Problem remedied when I found an M9A3 slide on eBay and drunkenly hit the BIN.

I've been staring at LTT brown grips and a LTT TJIAB in my online cart for a week to "finish" it now. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181214/cdc4bdf977c1d06329337eed32c73b12.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181214/19339fcd5dc6ad99d9f099d93b17a1d5.jpg

It started innocently enough with an unfired M9 that someone had been traded in at the LGS.... (Cheap enough that I thought I'd give it a try).

Within a couple of months multiplied to what you see here:

http://i.imgur.com/ypAonso.jpg?1 (https://imgur.com/ypAonso)
(92S, c. 1991 92 FS Inox, M9, M9A1)

LTT grips & extended mag releases allowed these to fit my hands and a simple hammer spring swap made them shootable for me. Soon a couple of Sigs were leaving my safe and Berettas were coming in.

G-conversions & WC short reach triggers are on the agenda in the near future.

I carry this beast as a backup weapon. It is the only Beretta I own but I have been very impressed. It has been 100% reliable, and crazy accurate. Eight shot magazine of .25 ACP. I realize it isn't chambered in the most powerful round, but in the role it was intended, this little pistol is nice.

Are the shield sights good to go?

No idea. Since there aren't adequately tall sights (yet) for the PX4 MOS pistols that LTT is doing, I'm hoping that the Shield will be low enough that I'll be able to see some BUS. My plan is 1k rounds 147gr FMJ and 200 rounds JHP, hopefully by the end of summer. I have an RMR ready to install if the Shield fails, but was holding out until the taller sights were available before installing it.

The slide has a “PB” in an oval and a “PS” in a shield. I’m assuming it might have been an agency gun at some point? I got it out of a shop in Illinois.

Aside from some wear on the back strap serrations, the wear appears to just be cosmetic.

Well it might now be as easy to shoot as a tuned Ruger but it holds 15 rounds and is very reliable.

I’m probably one of the few people going from a Glock to a Beretta 92A1 for their duty gun :D

Got my holster. Not usually a basketweave fan, but it seems fitting since I’m going somewhat old school on the gun.

G kit? In my experience (you might be a much better shooter than me) getting my thumb to do hood and safety is gonna yield about a 2.5-3 sec first shot from draw.

I love my Wilsons, but go with the LTT.

You can get a great trigger job on either one, but the beveled edges on the beaver-tail and under the trigger guard of the LTT makes all the difference.

Having jumped on the Wilson edc x9 bandwagon, I just can’t justify a 92, even though I like them very much. The x9 just feels like the perfect 92/1911 hybrid

Mostly the overall feel in the hand, the smooth action, and the fixed beaver tail, and the way it feeds from the double stack mag all feel like a beretta, to me. The shape of the aluminum frame reminds me of my old eliteII. The 1911 parts are, of course, 1911

To be fair, I haven’t shot a 92 in a very long time

OK, now I see where you’re coming from. I don’t agree, but how a gun feels is subjective, so I can respect your opinion.

Probably the most 92ish feature of the X9 is the way the top round aligns with the chamber, nearly a straight path to feeding. Much like the 92.

I’m a fan of both platforms, and I rotate between an X9 and 92G compact for EDC. I’m so split down the middle, a lot of times my decision is which holster will work better with a given outfit, since I have different holsters for each.

I had a little time behind a single stack Wilson 9mm before moving to the x9, and while both pistols had buttery smooth actions, this was a huge difference. It’s like the round cannot miss the chamber, and all my 9mm 1911 worries were out the window

"G" conversion, Wilson Combat enlarged & checkered mag release, Wilson Combat Ultra-thin grips, Langdon Tactical TJIB, Border Marshall 4.7" barrel, Vertec slide, M9A3 Tritium sights, Wilson Combat checkered FS and BS, Mag well, dehorn, removed trigger guard hook. Got the Wilson frame work back yesterday and it makes a significant difference in the feel and retention.

I've often thought that the ideal carry 92 looks something like an Elite II frame with a Vertec slide. Looks like you really nailed it to me. Looks great too.

So, the thin, full checkered, Lok Grips are the best ones so far. I like the VZ/Wilson/Langdon grips, but they were all too slick. I'm used to either home-done stipple jobs on glocks or 20 lpi on 1911s. I basically want the grips on my pistol to hold on to me just as hard as I'm holding on to them...the Lok Grips do this. They are a bit pricey, but over the next couple pay checks I believe that both of my Wilson Brig-Tacs are going to end up wearing sets as well.

I suspect so, but honestly don't know for sure. The only grips that I've ever had are the factory ones that come from Wilson and Langdon, with their 92Gs...all of them are the thin grips to start with.

The Lok grips DO NOT come with a set of screws. Just the grips and o-rings.

My new M9 setup thanks to Tony Mayer for setting me up with an absolutely excellent AIWB holster, and JDM for the very cool Spyderco
I never imagined carrying an M9 IWB in any configuration could be this comfortable. The holster is actually JM Custom Kydex's M9A1 option but it retains the M9 flawlessly.
Mags are 18+1 Mec-Gar mags loaded with 124gr +P Gold Dots. The M9 is 100% milspec except for a D spring - a doppelganger to my issued M9 that obviously doesn't follow me home.

It started as a Ber 92FS. "G" conversion, TJIB, Vertec slide w/ M9A3 tritium sights, Border Marshall barrel, SS trigger, Wilson Combat ultrathin grips and most recently, Wilson Combat frame work. Front and back strap checkering, mag well, de-horning, and rounded trigger guard (because I have no use for the hooked guard and I like the rounded one better). I had this gun checkered because after handling and shooting the LTT Elite, the 92FS serrations just didn't feel as secure. I have to say that now, with the WC checkering, it feels even better than the LTT. I'm very pleased.

I’m unreasonably happy with the update on this old weapon. Next for her are likely a trip to tooltech for updated night sights, which I believe involves them installing a dovetail, and then maybe to LTT for a look-see and G conversion (she has had his trigger work since the beginning). But she’s good as is, too. 37563

I bought a Vertec Stainless slide for my older all stainless 92. I sent several pm's to Langdon tactical with no response, so I took that as they were not interested in selling other parts (then the ones already listed for the PX4) NP3 finished. I did order a TJIAB with the elite hammer NP3'd. I picked up another barrel for crowning, and sent my G kit (obtained elsewhere since the above), off to Robar. Since I am not in a big hurry, I signed up for notification for the Inox mag release, rather then NP3'ing the other.
A vertec slide might make sights easier.

I understand I could get an a3 slide, and get your reasoning for doing so, but I’ve had this weapon for a very, very long time. And while the proverbial Ship of Theseus remains the same ship despite replacement of all its parts, I’d like to try to keep the same slide if I can.

I kinda like the look of the black extended mag release on this weapon, too.

Cool. The other side has the fuzz cut off till about halfway down, and has a slightly cut and shapes JMCK wedge at the moment.

I'm 6ft even, and on days where I'm honest with myself around 178-181 lbs. I wear it slightly right of center, mostly for concealment but it's also more comfortable there.

In earlier pics in the thread, you saw my 20 year old inox as she was. This year, with me shooting an Elite so much, I decided she could use some updates. I added the beretta steel extended mag release a while back. Now she has LTT grips (they didn’t have black when I ordered but I think the black cherry looks pretty fair), and with a friend's gracious help, a 13# np3 TJiaB. That includes the Wilson trigger bar and skeltonized hammer. We also did the G conversion. She will be getting some more stuff as we go, but she’s feeling good right now.

Second elite ltt np3 spartan tj arrived today, bottom. Body double of the one on top.

If there is an LTT compact, I’ll grab one and, I think, be done, sticking just to px4s and 92s. If no LTT compact, I’m already very happy with and grateful for what I have.

With the arrival of the second elite, gonna send the inox slide to tooltech soonish for the dovetail cut and HD’s to replace the fading old style ones she has.

My wife said I have a Beretta problem.

She was right. I don’t have even a single Inox gun.
That is a fantastic problem to have Sir! I am rapidly starting to have the exact same problem.

Sorry, just saw this.

The Langdon M9 model comes with flathead grip screws. I like flatheads more because they're harder to round off, and the hole isn't as deep into the shaft of the screw. I changed to stainless to prevent rust, because FL has them against sweat alot.

My Elite LTT came with hex. Because they're stainless I'll probably leave them. I don't dislike hex enough to change them out, just flathead is my preference.

If I ever need to get new screws in the future I'll likely choose flathead and stainless.

I picked up one of the Italian Police trade-in Model 81 Cheetahs in .32ACP. Now I just need to find a few spare mags that don't cost almost as much as I paid for the gun.

This started out as a 96FS Vertec, then it had a D Upper in in 9mm, now it's got a standard 92FS upper with a G conversion and M9A3 grips. Think I'll keep it this was for a bit.

My introduction to Beretta-world a few years ago. 92A1 and a PX4 Compact, both with lighter springs, performance parts, etc. I eventually sold them both after deciding that the Langdon Tactical guns have everything I want right out of the box, and modifying the factory guns myself just wasn't worth it.

This arrived yesterday. Went to my local gun shop, did my paperwork and went straight to shoot the weekly practical pistol league shoot at PSTC in Clackamas. I’m really sorry for the bad pix; it’s hard to convey the differences in the carry bevel without showing you in person and running a finger over the relevant areas. What I notice most -mag well bevel, beavertail work, and trigger guard work. I also got the cut and crowned barrel and love that, wish it were SSP / Prod legal so I could do it on her full-size sisters. So far I’m extremely pleased with this weapon and she will be my carry gun most of the time.

Picked up an old school Beretta 92 after watching "Die Hard" too many times this Christmas season. I wanted a 92 without the warning labels, and found it in this very clean 1986 example complete with vintage Checkmate magazine. When I took it to the range I traded that mag out for a Mec-Gar 18-rounder.

So for LE the legislation isn't duty restricted...e.g. for my duty pistol just a blanket release no matter what you carry at work?

As in neighboring MA, in CT LEOs are exempt, and not just for duty weapons or official use.

Correct. LE, military, some security people, are all exempt.

What are you going to use for a holster?
I wasn’t sure if the sight channel on a 6280 would have enough room to clear the higher front sight.

A 6280 won’t work. Langdon Tactical has both Philster and JMCK holster that are compatible with the optic. I’m gonna order the JMCK as I have several of his holsters and I’ve been very happy with all of them.

I was afraid of that. I was hoping to have my 92A1 done and use it at work, but maybe I’ll have it done and just use it off duty, and have to go back to striker fired if I want a dot gun for work.

There are custom makers who do custom SLS type duty holsters for RDS guns. I’m surprised LTT isn’t either selling them or referring people to someone for these like STI has been doing.

Ive seen one of them Looked like it may be decent, I just have a difficult time trusting an unknown holster maker for a duty holster.
Always been a Safariland guy for duty holsters.
