I don't get the thought police thing. It's aimed at kids/teens sending naked pics and bullying. https://needhelpnow.ca/app/en/

Although it seems that teens aren't the only ones who need to engage their brains before posting/texting:

I can very easily see how this could bring about more "hate speech" prosecutions.

The Canadian Parliament recently passed Bill C-250 which amends the federal hate crimes law to include speech against sexual orientation.

Does Canada still have teen suicide issues?

If not thinking before you speak (text, post a message, send an email, whatever) is a crime - Then my dad is/was the gold standard of the thought police. When I was a kid my family was poor and both my parents worked, so I would go to work with my dad, doing construction, when on breaks from school (bear with me this is going some place). Now, you can imagine having you 4-5-6-7 year old son with you on a busy construction site (the horror it might qualify as child abuse today). I tended to ask a lot of questions, while my dad was trying to work and after awhile he would say to me, "Robert, is it an important question or can it wait? Think before you speak." - Man that stopped a lot of questions/thoughts/random junk coming out of my mouth. The lesson I learned was to use a filter system...mouth to brain to mouth.

If Canada has to actually police this and issue a sign to help people...then some of our Canadian friends are failing hardcore as parents.

And like Forrest Gump said, "That's really all I have to say about that."

I fucking love it. The only one on there that's breaking the law is the "I" where it asks if you're breaking the law. What idiots came up with that sign? If being necessary and kind were requirements for texting 99.856% of the mobile world would be behind bars.

“He gazed up at the enormous face. Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the dark moustache. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother”

And not loving Big Brother "may be breaking the law."

Apparently Canada isn't OK with that. Personally I couldn't live without calling people names on my phone.

Look, I don't care what kind of "reason" we need to cook up to put 99.856% of the mobile-using world behind bars, but that one will work as well as any other, I suppose. I'm drowning in the...no, that would be an unkind way to phrase it...rather, let's say the "simplicity-gifted".

It doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

It comes out of Ontario where the current Liberal Government would rather pour money into useless social programs than pay down their ballooning debt. The province has double the debt of California with half the population.

And here I thought the reason that so many Canadians lived in California was the weather. It would never have occurred to me that some of them were also fleeing a place that actually was more indebted than California. Indeed, I didn't know that it was possible for any place except Greece to be more indebted than California.

Anyway it sounds like the current view of the government of Ontario towards its citizens is that they should shut up and pay their taxes. It's funny how lefties always end up taking the mailed-fist approach.

I went to a business meeting in Toronto. We had to introduce ourselves and mention our hobbies. Horror ensued over IDPA, pistols, etc. There was another person from Georgia who was into some kind of extreme ski driving where you hurtle to the ground and pull the ripcord at the last possible moment. She thought the guns were cool and wanted to get more info. We were then the crazy Americans.

Actually, I enjoyed Toronto when I lived in WNY. Wife and I used to go there a bit. One thing that cracked me up was that Kraft American Cheese slices were Kraft Canadian Cheese slices in the market.

Ontario is the New Jersey of Canada. It would like to think it is the New York State of Canada.
