Depends on the state. WA requires non-citizens to get an Alien Firearms Permit. Which they won't issue to aliens who don't live in WA, to the disgust of a friend in ID who is (still!) waiting on his naturalization.

That's one of the rare exceptions, rather than the whole. There's at least 40 states to pick from where these sorts of things aren't the case.
