Today I'm flying from Hartford to Las Vegas and it's a 6 hour flight so I thought I'd purchase the Southwest wi-fi and see how it goes. In fact I'm in the air right now somewhere over middle America...

The service is fairly quick when you consider I'm probably around 36,00 feet or so and surfing the web with good results. I thought I'd verify my speed using CNET's speed meter and here's what I came up with.

Notice the banner across the top. "Online. In the air..."

Really convenient and I can email back and forth with the wifey while traveling the friendly skies to firm up our dinner plans. Nothing like having a conversation with someone miles and miles away while flying through the air at 500mph. If you're on a flight and want to surf the net it's cheap entertainment, or use it for business, and I'd definitely recommend ponying up the $5 for the ride. Technology's cool!

I've used airline wi-fi a number of times and it's usually far better than most hotels' wi-fi.

I couldn't agree more. I travel a lot and have had many a hotel stay where the internet service is far slower than what I'm currently experiencing.

Mostly just posted this for fun and to let people know it's worth the $ in my eyes. Great way to cure in flight boredom when you forgot your book...

In my opinion the funniest guy around right now. So true and appropriate too.

$5? That's cheaper than the wi-fi in the airport itself. I don't fly much but that would be worth it.

$5 is way cheap. It is $19.95 on US Airways and American. And it is only on about 20% of the US Airways flights.

That's pricey. For $5 I had service from the time they said people could power up to when we had to power down for landing covering 6 hours across the vast majority of CONUS. I was happy with the speed and would definitely recommend it.
