I've seen that making the rounds online.... it seems terribly impractical for CCW.

I like it as an idea for a taser, not a gun.

problem is it doesn't look like a 'phone once you look it over for a second. no screen is a dead giveaway.

It's made to hide in plain sight and be missed with a cursory glance. Not very practical for most folks....

Right. There are already disguised firearms that can stand up to even a close inspection. (Pen guns, belt buckle gun, etc.) This just seems like a slow into action, low capacity handgun that is still obviously not the thing it is supposed to appear to be in its disguised configuration. Notwithstanding these facts, it has already generated a fair amount of pearl clutching even though, as far as I can tell, it doesn't even exist in a firing prototype form.

Not just that, but it appears you have to use two hands to unfold the gun before the trigger is accessible. Doesn't seem conducive to a simple or fast drawstroke...

How fast can you say "justified shooting."

How fast can you say "justified shooting."

About the same speed that you can say Amadou Diallo.

Oh yeah, remember that shooting.

Unfortunate.

That's been flying around the cop world on the internets. Because "officer safety!!!".

My understanding is said gun doesn't actually exist, the pic is a photoshop, cartoon, or whatever.

Yeah, the headlines have been driving me insane with rage. We already have officers ordering people to put away cell phones for officer safety because the officer heard from someone that guns have been disguised as cellphones. Now we have headlines that there really are guns that look like cell phones. I expect double the derp.

Such things exist in the wild, but they are very rare;

That's too bad I tried to order 4 just now. I guess I'll have to stick with carrying my sub2000 aiwb. At least it unfolds fast:-)

If "very rare" means no reported criminal usage in the USA, concur.

A previous iteration of the idealconceal website (or maybe just the desktop version) that I clicked through to from the obligatory hysterical Facebook post had an origin story about the founder being made by a small child in a diner who yelled "mommy, that man has a gun!" which caused him much embarassment.

So instead of concluding that he was doing it wrong and deciding to wear a combination of gun and clothing that would result in concealment, we have a CAD drawing of a vaguely cell phone shaped two shot .380 ACP Derringer

I've got very little sympathy for the marketing narrative that we're are really into concealed carry, but concealment is just too hard. Remember the safepacker, and the pager pal, and the zillion other ways to carry a P3AT or a G42 size gun in something that looks like a cell phone case? Remeber how in The Last Boy Scout Bruce Willis had a .357 snub inside a cat hand puppet? These all seem like less stupid approaches to me.

If that were real, wouldn't it be an AOW?

Chuck Schumer still wants to ban it (http://www.guns.com/2016/04/05/schumer-wants-to-lower-the-boom-on-cell-phone-gun-citing-terrorist-concerns/), just like he tried to ban the undetectable and also imaginary Glock 8 he saw in Die Hard.

It was a Glock 7, and it costs more that you make in a month.

Yes, I'm pretty sure.

As long as it cannot fire in the folded position, it should not be an AOW. The Braverman Stinger pen guns were not considered AOWs because they had to be unfolded in order to fire.

Ah, good to know. Thank you for the clarification.
