My new assignment has me doing plain clothes narcotics work in and around vehicles a lot. The issued full size M&P 40 has never been my favorite. Carrying AIWB for the past 2 months has shown its size to be a problem.

I figured I would get a flat out NO when I asked my supervisor about other options more suitable for concealment. I asked if he had any compact pistols in the armory that could be assigned to me for duty use. His reply, “we have a few smaller old Glock forties.” I was waiting at his office the next morning to pick up what I thought was a 23 or 27.

Well, a 23 it was which made me happy. This 23 dates to 97-98 and came with dead 97 dated night sights to match. Seems it has not been issued in years and was put away very dirty. I broke it down and replaced any suspect parts and installed some Ameriglo KD4 sights.

The extra inch saved in the frame and slide will be welcome. I put 150 rounds through it this weekend and it passed my initial test. Recoil is sharper compared to the M&P no doubt. But it won in the accuracy department and I much prefer the Glock trigger.

I’m very happy to put this old 23 back into service. It looks like a beater but runs and handles like a champ. Plus, I’m way more comfortable running AIWB now and have more confidence and experience shooting Glocks.

Sometimes, all you have to do is ask…

Did it already have the non-LCI extractor Or was that one of the parts you replaced?

That's the stock Non-LCI extractor. It was in great shape so no need to change. I put in a fresh recoil spring, striker spring and trigger spring. Also, added a Vickers mag release and installed a smooth face trigger assembly.

Good. 180 > 165/155 in 40. I have a 23 I bought new in 1998. It's currently a running a 9mm conversion barrel but it's always been a good shooter, as has my 35 of the same vintage.

I love these Ameriglo KD4 front night sight / black rear sets. I run them on all my Glocks. I just add a little orange stripe to acquire them a little faster.

Seriously, the only thing I might add is some Talon Grip tape because /.40.

And, of course, lube the cruciform.

Got some time on the 23 today...at least it shoots better than my M&P 40.

I love my beater 23. Police trade-in from the early 2000s. It's not pretty or elegant or fancy or shiny but I am a pretty decent shooter with it.
