National Command Authority has considered your request for the release of nuclear weapons.

You are cleared hot up to 5KT ground burst.

Further release of nuclear weapons will require justification as to why a 5KT warhead was insufficient.

Wait until you find ground hornets / yellow jackets... Or rather, they find you as their nests are only spotted after the surprise attack.

With paper wasps, wait for a cold night so their activity level is low. You can knock it down with a garden hose. Spray them with wasp killer.

With Yellowjackets, wait for night when they all return home, and pour copious amounts of gasoline into the nest.

1) I have used a .22 with shot shells to good effect with large bees. Best practice is to be backed up by your wife with a hose in case you miss and they charge.

2) you might as well set up a sub forum for threads related to LL's journey as a homeowner, so we keep them all in one place.

Put this in "Why a Revolver" thread and get as many revolvers together as you can.

Fill all with snake shot and piss off the nest then New York Reload your way to victory. Video tape it all for us...

God damn did I have this happen last year in spades. My old man, my dog, and me tossed a couple logs on the fire pit to break it in for the nice weather. A swarm of hornets came barreling out and it was the scene straight out of Tommy Boy with all three of us running yelling BEEES BEEEEES EVERYWHERE. A bunch of them were taking off from the dog's aircraft carrier back even after we got away.

That fire pit turned into a flaming hellhole of gasoline and other flammable substances upon our return. We then had to kill the few still flying around returning to mother base. Good memory.

I am seriously thinking LL could have a homeowner's blog. Some topics might be:

Neighbor's dog pooped in my yard -- confront the neighbors or grab the suppressor.

Optimal array of trail cams to secure the property.

There should be a law against the property tax and insurance bill hitting in the same month.

Man cave smells like a man, how to remediate.

Special precautions amongst Canadians.

How hard would it be to dig a tunnel to Hansohn Brothers.

Feel free to add other topics.

Use new chain saw to cut up about 8 cords of wood pile up under nest and have a bonfire. Or call an exterminator.

I got stung 18 times on the neck, face and arms when I inadvertently knocked down a wasp nest trimming trees. I swoled up like the Staypuft Marshmallow Man. Ended up in the ER and got an Epi shots and lots off steroids. Lots of pain, didn't poop right for a month thanks to the steroids and some of the sting sights turned into knots of scar tissue that had to be removed.

One shot from a .45 will end that threat. Or just wait for it to get dark and rack a shotgun. Or just fire both barrels of a side by side into the air while standing near the nest. If all that fails blow a whistle multiple times.

I have read credible reports from folks with precision air rifles about successfully shooting bees.

Probably not a wise technique for dealing with an entire swarm.

Is it an active nest? Around here they are vacant in the winter and you just cut them down and hang them inside for a decoration. I'm sure one of the kids has one in their bedroom.

Looks like he was carrying appendix, based on that bulge in front.

Maybe on PF, those who have owned a house some years can divide into shifts, and we always have someone on duty to be there when you run into home ownership problems, and JV is busy riding his bike.

BTW, I definitely wouldn't put that nest in your kid's room as a decoration.

Be ready to run! I don't know about these critters but bees will only chase you about a quarter of a mile. Or so says the Internet. However, I experienced this playing golf. A member of the foursome was looking for his ball. He saw a hole the ground and stuck the end of his club in it and pried out a piece of dirt and exposed the hive. Ran for our lives! Only got stung once. Got the clubs latter.

We get white faced hornets (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bald-faced_hornet) making some humongous nests and are very aggressive particularly when its hot out. I tried different brands of bee spray and have had the best results with soaking the nest and surrounding area with Raid Wasp and Hornet killer. Other brands work but are not as fast acting where as the Raid can knock them out of the air as well as continue killing until it gets washed off.

Once you get rid of the nest, hang these in the area: AmazonSmile : Get Lost Wasp Beee Free Natural & Non-Toxic Wasp Deterrent, 2 Pack : Home Pest Control Traps : Patio, Lawn & Garden (http://www.amazon.com/Lost-Wasp-Natural-Non-Toxic-Deterrent/dp/B000W93LUU/ref=sr_1_1?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1457635630&sr=1-1&keywords=decoy+wasp+nest) or AmazonSmile : Tanglefoot 300000430 Waspinator : Pest Control Traps : Patio, Lawn & Garden (http://www.amazon.com/Tanglefoot-300000430-Waspinator/dp/B002BKMO42/ref=pd_bxgy_86_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=1N8D1YFM73YMNCTYFT1Y)

Apparently wasps are very territorial, and will not build a nest in an area already occupied.

They seem to work, except when it gets really windy and blows the thing away.
