The text is going to be a bit sparse, but figured I'd upload my pics to a more friendly format than Facebook, and original size too so people can get some detail instead of just blur. Although there might be some blurry images until I find them and delete them. Any questions feel free to ask.

Ok some larger images from the other thread on CZs where I showed the slide length compared to a regular Shadow, as well as the barrel length, with one photo showing the new barrel in a regular slide. Basically an Australian legal barrel.

People have asked about the reduced area under the beavertail. It's true, it has been cut a bunch. As the frame is 1mm thicker on each side, they had to. But they did it enough that people like champion shooter (and awesome woman) Maria Gushchina can easily reach the trigger while maintaining a proper grip with the gun centered in the web of her hand. She can get the tip of her finger completely on the trigger and easily manipulate the double action first shot

First my hand compared to hers,

Now some shots of the actual gun for everyone, again, this will be a bit scattered and you'll see some single action guns mixed in there, as well as different triggers on the DA/SA guns too. As well as some shots that I hope show a bit more detail back at the beavertail and how they've changed that, you can really see it with the grips. As well the new adjustable 3 position mag catch and the new trigger guard shape

How many different grips are there to play with the thickness? I have a feeling that with the new cut in the beaver tail I'm going to need to really thick grips to compensate.

Slavex
03-09-2016, 12:39 AM
all the ones at the show were the same thickness as far as I can tell. Not sure what the plan is, but I have pretty damn big hands and have zero issue with the current setup

Will this be the standard CZ frame on other guns moving forward? Not gonna lie, the only reason I've been staying away from the CZ has been that the trigger reach is way too long for my hands.

Slavex

No, they will be continuing the other Shadow as well, speciality versions of it I'm not so sure about though.

Whoops forgot to include the SRP, it's 1000 Euro, which caught me off guard. I was expecting 1500 Euro or more due to what we pay in Canada for the Shadowmates. Those will top $2400 CDN this year most likely, but I imagine dealers will have a hard time selling them once the 2s land

I'm the opposite, as I liked the reach on my CZ quite a bit. What's the impression of the reduced reach for guys with big/long hands?

So that would be about $1100 USD, similar to the current Tactical Sport....

I am looking for a pistol to act as a backup to my Dan Wesson PM9, obviously I should just get the same but having something different is appealing. This or the current CZ TS may scratch that itch. Thanks for the write up!

The machining on the sear cage looks a lot better than the 75-series. Is that just the picture, or is that actually true?

The way the beavertail is cut may help people with short fingers/thumbs reach the safety lever better. This is one of my complaints with the current CZ-75 series pistols that don't have the larger safety levers.

I didn't know anyone used the thumb safeties on the Shadow.

Oh, I don't shoot competitively, so I hadn't thought about that. It was just the first thing that popped into my head after seeing it. I suppose trigger reach is the more likely reason why it's there.

Yes, in Production, you start DA. I honestly don't know if I have ever flipped the thumb safeties from the fire position. If you could manage to sneak the thumb safeties on, after Production guys make ready, the resulting chaos would be You Tube worthy. Why won't my gun fire?

That's exactly why I've always wondered at the Shadow and all its variants being made from the safety version of the CZ platform rather than the decocker version. Seems like the latter would make a lot more sense for competition, presuming you could still have a good trigger. Is it just not possible to get a light, crisp trigger out of a decocker CZ, or is it a case of people sticking with the way things have always been because it's familiar, or is there some other reason?

GJM
03-09-2016, 11:11 PM
I think the consensus is the triggers are better on the no firing pin safety Shadow models, and the low profile thumb safeties are in a better position than the decocker. Plus, you get a natural high from the drama of having to decock at the beginning of each stage and risking a DQ if you let one off in the process.

Snitches get shot.

Even though the odds of a RO knowing there are thumb safeties on a Shadow are minuscule, I just went and checked. Darn hard to put them on, but functional.

cheby
03-10-2016, 12:04 PM
They WILL check your safeties at the chrono stage for sure. If safeties are not working, you would be DQ'd, not bumped to Open, if I am not mistaken

Slavex
03-10-2016, 01:08 PM
The flush ones are hard to put on, but easy to swipe down if need be.
As for the trigger reach, I have big hands and the reduction in the beavertail area means I just get a really high grip on the gun better. I don't find the reduction negatively affecting my trigger finger position in the least.
The machining on all the parts is just amazing, and they say that is the standard for this gun, all new machines, all new QC etc.

That's a good question... I think I'd wait for the S2. You'll grow with it, etc.

That said, I think there are, perhaps, more reasonable choices for a beginner: the simple, sturdy Glock, for example.

This is a good idea. Get something that works and go shoot. Shadows and their ilk (Tanfoglios) are at the top of the USPSA Production performance list. As a new shooter, you don't need it yet. Get a stock CZ75/85/SP-01 and go shoot a ton. The skills will transfer and you will have a back up gun. My CZ85 goes to every match my Shadow does, it just lives in the trunk because the Shadow has been so reliable.

If you have your heart set on a Shadow 2, eventually get one. I'm not a GM. I don't make a living at shooting. I may use the Shadow 2 mania to pick up another SP-01 Shadow cheap.

I've got a few thousand rounds downrange at matches and practice with a couple 2's now, and I'm so in love it's ridiculous. I used Maria's gun for a match in Yekaterinburg and also in Canada recently, and then another friends 2 in Copenhagen, and will be using Maria's again this weekend in Moscow.
While I really liked Maria's gun, I knew it had been gone over by Robin Sebo and everything fitted etc., so I was really really amazed at what Simone's gun (gun in Denmark) achieved when I played with it a bit. I threw my 11lb hammer spring for my match Shadow in it, adjusted the overtravel screw and ended up with the best trigger I've ever had in a Shadow. Absolutely zero backlash when the hammer drops in DA and the same in SA. I've never been able to achieve that with my guns, very little sure, but never have I been able to get the trigger to stop right when it releases the hammer. Simone's gun was a current production model, not a special one or anything like that, so I was incredibly impressed with it. It had the 13lb recoil spring in it and shockbuff, and I shot 147gr reloads through it (my own from Canada) and also some 150gr factory stuff (can't remember the name right now, red box is all I can remember). It shot ridiculously soft, I am already used to my own guns not really recoiling, and this was better. I was worried the 13lb recoil spring would lead to the sight dropping when the slide went forward, but this was not an issue. If you check out my IPSC thread there is a video of me shooting in Denmark with this gun, and it's pretty damn awesome. The checkering on this gun was also a lot sharper than Maria's, leading to some new calluses on my strong hand, which I am totally fine with. that new checkering kept the gun glued to my hands without needing grip tape.
Only complaint, is that the backorder list is so long. But they are worth the wait.

Is it worth waiting on the Shadow 2 instead of buying a Shadow Orange? The Shadow Orange seems to have more hand fitting and the Shadow 2 better machining, but is there any appreciable benefit other than the ergo changes in the Shadow 2.

Slavex
08-27-2016, 11:08 AM
I would wait for the 2 personally. And yes I know, I am sounding very shill like on some of these posts, and yes, I am sponsored back home through my dealer with CZ products among other things, but the 2 really is a huge improvement, even over the Oranges. I regular shoot Canadian Shadowmates, which are a step up even from an Orange, and I'd give all of them away for 2s if offered the chance.

Ended up buying one of these last week. Shot it for the first time today. Sweet shooting gun! I swapped in a 13# hammer spring and a 11.5# recoil spring from CZ Custom before I shot it. DA on it is in the mid 7# range, on a brand new gun with no break in. Color me impressed! The DA pull is pretty smooth from the factory; no stacking and just a tiny bit of "grit" through the trigger pull. I'll stone the internals once I get a couple hundred rounds through it. The SA measures under 3# and has a little bit of creep.

Shot 100 rounds through it on my lunch break to get it zeroed before tonight's ZSA match. Shot 50 rounds of Freedom 147 HPs and 50 rounds of Freedom 124 RNs (both new not reman). This gun seems to like the 147s! Once I got the sights regulated to good enough on a Shoot-N-See, I set up a B8 @ 25Y and fired (2) 10 round groups. Fired a shot every ~3 seconds. Used a "drive the dot" hold with the impact right behind the fiber optic.

16242

First group was a 95-4X and second group was a 96-3X. I may drift the rear sight a touch to the right. I felt really good about most of the trigger presses; the ones near the 8 ring/9 o'clock were me getting a little squirrelly with my trigger press.

All in all I'm impressed with my brief honeymoon period. Looking forward to shooting it in tonight's match!

Here's (3) 10 round groups I fired with the 124RN. Groups weren't quite as good and I lost a little visual patience. Dialed things back for runs 2 & 3 and saw the groups improve. Interesting to note I used the exact same hold as I did with the 147 HPs. So at least on this gun I theoretically can go back and forth between my stash of 124 & 147 Freedom and have the same hold out to 25Y. The recoil impulse on the 147s is a little less sharp so I'll most likely use those exclusively with this gun.

Group 3 was 94-4X.

Dear forum readers,
I understand the concerns of readers on this topic, it would not be fair to flood the forum with items. But CZ really made a difference ( and by all means i am not sponsored by CZ) , no platform is so apparent than they. The 1911 has lots of technical stuff to buy from all kinds of small workshops doing their best to improve the 1911. But it is mostly technically improvements. Wooden grips for them are available in a ton of colors but the mainstream still uses black. Glock is becoming interesting, have seen slide alterations which many of us would not dream of. But CZ started with models in different colors for the IPSC shooters that themselves already tend to be a bit more colorful. Also the AR and the Benelli guns used in IPSC matches have upgrades in different colors. It is like comparing Formula one (the colorful side of sport) with Chess (Exept on the occasional divingmask worn by the players)
About the tombstone remark, i didnt see it when i made the picture but have to admit the surface and form do remind on it. when coming so close it can give this impression.
While in the USA we visited a local gunshop in OZONA Texas. There i was presented a masterpiece of engraving on a Vaquero. I was stunned at that piece, but now i have seen a bit more, that Revolver had what you would expect to have engraved. Like the rifles made not far from here in Ferlach Austria, they all are masterpieces but ... almost to beautiful to take out for a hunt.
Thanks for reacting and greetings from Slovenia.

I'm the new owner of Shadow 2. When I was cleaning and inspecting the gun, I saw pits in the barrel. The gun is brand new. I'm reviewing the second Shadow 2 with 2500 shots, the barrel was great and shine.
do I have a reason to worry?
