So it's a legal requirement in Italy but does it offer anything special?

Not with standard loads in a gun of 9mm P magazine and slide stroke length.

There was an era when it was an IPSC loophole round, overloaded to make Major power factor.
The first version was still at the 9mm P OAL and was known as a CZ slide stop eater.
There were a few 2011s barreled for it so it could be loaded long and not so hot. But it had no advantage over .38 Super in the long action and is not common.

Right now on glocktalk somebody is posting about the awesome power boost the 9x21 provides.

I shot 9x21 in a Springfield Armory P9 (CZ 75 clone?) back in the old days loaded to 175+ power factor. You did not have to load it hot but as noted above it was the way to make "9mm Major" in the old days. I also had a Caspian High Cap in 9x21. It does have a slight advantage over 38 Super in that it does not have a rim and 38 Super is semi-rimmed which can be an issue in doublestack mags.

Is it weird of me to now want a Glock 34 in 9x21?

Wouldn't you rather have a Glock 40 in 9x23?

I have a Glock 20 with a 10 to 40 conversion barrel. I always thought about the G20 with 9x23 conversion I have seen advertised.

If I could get the grip frame to fit my small stubby fingers, and Glock made factory 9x19 magazines for it, I would be all over a Glock in 9x23 Winchester. I suspect .356 TSW being chambered in a Glock 17 is more likely to happen.

9x23 Win has a COAL 1mm longer than 10mm Auto, actually, so it wouldn't need to take 9x19 mags. :)

.356 TSW

I've actually seen a 9x23 in person. AFAIK I've never been in the same county as anything chambered in .356TSW

I was not precise with the reason for my desire for the Glock factory 9x19 magazines. I want to be able to put a 9x19 barrel in the 9x23 Glock for times when I do not want to chase my rare, expensive 9x23 Winchester brass. I could buy the Starfire brass, but I only trust the Winchester brass for full-power 9x23 loads. I already shoot and load 9x23 for a 1911 that also has a 9x19 setup, and I use the 9x19 barrel in that gun much more than the 9x23 barrel. 9x23 has its uses, especially for deer hunting with a pistol or any situation where one wants .357 Magnum power from an autoloader. But it is not a high-volume shooter for me.

The .356 TSW has the advantage of fitting in the Glock 17/19 magazine as opposed to the 9x23, which needs the .45/10mm magazine length.

Gotcha. Yeah, and I don't know how well straight up 9 would feed from a long mag. .40 seems to do okay-ish from G20 mags...

In my limited experience, it depends on the gun, the magazine, and the cartridge OAL. The 9x23 1911 feeds very well with very long 9x19 reloads and very poorly with short rounds from .38 Super magazines, but the 1911 magazine is very long for a 9x19.

Back in the day when USPSA shooters were moving from 45 to 38 Super to make major, 38 Super brass was hard to get and the original 38 Super brass seemed weak and 1911 barrels were not ramped (I was one of many experiencing "38 Super face in those days" with a blown casing - thank you Gargoyle sunglasses!). The USPSA shooters around Dallas, TX started loading 160 grain lead round nose projectiles "long" in 9 mm brass to 38 Super length and used 38 Super magazines to make USPSA "major" reliably. That was "state of the art" for a very short time as we soon moved to 9x21 hicaps in CZ, S/A P9s etc and added red dots.

I had one of those.
Bullets and loan of a long throat chamber reamer from Paul Miller. I always called it the 9mm Miller Major. It shot well but beat up the gun.

I once saw one of the 500 SW 940 J's for that round. Am I special?

Yup. All my 9x19 1911 mags have spacers.
