Yes I can tell it's my first one I've had Sigs, Walthers, and S&Ws so I was skeptical myself but its gone bang every time so I can't bad mouth the brand just yet

Why not just buy a G26? They're pretty much a known quantity.

How many bangs?

One box of Monarch 124 grain hollow point and 2 boxes of 115 federal ball ammo so 150 bangs all together

Well, the grip chop looks good, and at least it's not a Judge. ;)

Welcome to PF dude.

I always stayed away from Taurus myself but after seeing a hickok45 video on it I decided if it worked for him it might work for me too and like I said I can't say anything bad yet

Well if it's working, it's working. Needs quite a few more bangs though.

This is the common standard used for judging pistols... https://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?9-2-000-Round-Challenge

You won't find a Taurus in there, but I can't say I remember anyone trying. Read through the rules, give it a whirl, and let us know.

Well I'm sure I will eventually hit the 2000 rd mark I don't know about doing it the way they want to with the no cleaning or lube part. Thats like putting chevy against ford with no oil changes for 100,000 miles just to see what problems could come up.

Hickok45 is a nice guy, a skilled shooter and entertaining BUT you will notice he likes every gun he does a video on.

You never know til you try. I didn't expect the S&W SD9E to run through the 2K as a member did with one last year. Claude Werner raves about how well his "POS" SCCY 9mm has run for a lot more bangs than you. So what the hell?

Nice chop job, but I've learned over the years that the saying "buy quality and cry once" is usually true.

Good luck with your gun.

Ref Taurus pistols; a lot of people get brand loyalty and then get into pissing matches over gear, start throwing names around, etc. See Serpa threads on most pages of the internets for details.

In my case I've had several Taurus pistols and revolvers. Way back when they made pretty decent guns. My PT99af had a lot of rounds through it, many of those +P or +P+, and never had a problem. Same for a couple of their .38 and .357 revolvers I owned. Jump forward 10-15 years and I find that every single other Taurus I've tried has been fucked up, several times from the factory. Other times they didn't survive even a marginal round count.

Thanks I guess all I can do is see what happens as time goes by I bought the gun to have fun with it and do something to make it different from the other G2s and give it my own twist. I know the reliability of other brands first hand and if I wanted a Glock 26 I could have just bought it but where's the fun and challenge in that.

In shooting it well. But, your gun looks like a fun project, and I hope it does well and you enjoy it.

The difference here is there are a ton of pistols passing that test. If we did the oil change thing nothing would make it to the finish line. It's a hard test (I've never done it) but it is achievable, and seems to be a pretty good standard for a reliable gun.

Actually...my buddy didn't do an oil change on his caravan the whole time he owned it, and only added oil when the low oil pressure would come on (usually meant adding a gallon of oil).

It survived about 90k before he sold it, surprisingly.

Luke

That's adding oil for the purpose of lubeing the engine.. In the 2000 round test your not allowed to re lube when it's low. So your buddy did some random version of the official 100,000 mile test but it's not official so we don't care.

That looks like a really well done grip-chop, nice work.

I'd also like to see a 2k challenge on one of these. I've sold a truckload of them at this point and don't recall any coming back with problems, people seem to like them.

I dunno, I prefer not to have my gear to be a challenge or an experiment in reliability personally.

I only cut the grip and mag down I didn't mess with any parts that would effect the function or reliability

Taurus being the manufacturer is what effects function or reliability.

Yeah I keep getting that alot well if it turns out to be a P O S it was just 300 dlls I'm sure I won't have to file for bankruptcy

So you chopped down a G2 for range work only?

Well if they are as unreliable as they say it's not even good for that

Lets just say it's a conversation piece for the range maybe even a cool paper weight for the office

Better to practice chopping on a Taurus than a Sig/Glock/H&K

If you mess up, (shrug), it's just another Taurus
If it don't run right, (shrug), it's just another Taurus
If it runs good & reliable, (bonus!)

Well in all reality there is no reason to chop those up they make them in small models unless you have a fullsize and don't want to shell out the money for shorter grips

There is the Glock 19L mod some folks here like- that's chopping a G17 grip down to G19 size for ease of concealment. There's a thread or two on it somewhere, but I'm too lazy to search it out.

Yes I've seen it done to Glocks the advantage being that they make the short mags for the 26s
