I'm a "Gaurdain" on the OK Honor flight, we have 103 WWII veterans that will e touring the Washington Mall.
First stop is the WWII Memorial!! I'm here with my dad and helping another Vet as well.
It's been So cool for these guys, we've had OHP escorts Army Generals and LT Governers come out and speak to them and thank them for there service!
I'll try and post some pics in the next day or so.
Just dang Proud to be an American right now!!

Too cool... My grandfather served in WWII and I wish I'd talked to him more about it before he passed.

I have played taps (I am a military musician) at the WWII memorial for 2 visiting honor flight groups.

It was a neat experience both times. The honor flights are a great thing.

I know a lot of honor flights lay wreaths at the tomb of the unknown soldier. Let me know if you're doing this and I will try to play taps for it. As is I am playing Sunday morning.

I sure wish I would have been able to meet you guys up there!! Thanks for what you do!!!!
We did go see the "Changing of the Guard" at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, that is always an Awesome display and those guys are the best!!! It was raining and the wind was blowing and they did not even blink.....

Here is a article that the Oklahman wrote up about my Dad and his Brother.( my uncle) who was a Marine on IwoJima.

The tomb guards are great guys, and they are incredibly knowledgeable and professional about what they do. I'm glad your trip was interesting. Your dad and your uncle are true heroes. I love seeing and meeting the members of the honor flights that come to Arlington, it is always fun. Sorry it didn't work out I was there.

Gratitude for posting that. In Boot Camp, we would be at attention in our racks as the drill instructors told us stories of the Pacific. Sends a chill down my spine. Please tell me you've read With the Old Breed.

Finished on the flight out and gave it to my dad as he had not read it. I think that book really touches on why My Uncle would not let my Dad join the Marines, in WWII.
