Anyone use a "western" style belt buckle on their gun belt? Any drawback to this type (just the post that engages a hole in the belt)? I have a great old Wilson Combat buckle that I want to start using, but I'm going to have to special order a belt, and likely change a bunch of holsters over to 1.75" just to use it.

I have two buckles of that style, one a POW/MIA and one a skull with a bottle opener in its mouth, and neither are suitable for carry IMO. As you point out, they are only engaged on a post or a hook, and are too prone to coming undone to be used for carry. Perhaps not in normal walking around, or even on the draw, but should there be any kind of physical confrontation they just are not secure enough. In fact, I once had one of mine come loose in an IDPA match just from shooting prone.

I've carried with this style belt buckle for a number of years before changing over to AIWB. The two disadvantages for me, that I've seen is that it doesn't work well with AIWB and they come undone easy. If your not carrying a gun and need an improvised weapon the coming undone easy changes to a plus.

The Guzzi one is my favorite one to wear as it brings back memories for me and is a family heirloom.
