As many here know, I am a HUGE fan of Nightforce. I sold my S&B's, and relegated the Leupolds to ultralight hunting guns. I'm pretty much a dedicated NF guy, though Aimpoint is of course well represented on my guns as well.

Doesn't matter if it's for hunting, competition or more serious purposes, I don't want to put the time, money and effort into being successful, only to have an optic fail. The NF stuff is not inexpensive, but compared to all the others, I feel that i get more than my money's worth with NF. Cheap insurance to make sure my gear works when I need it to.

On the other hand, they are pretty pricy, and most of us can't put $1500-3000 optics on all the various guns we might have. I try not to just buy "range toys", but sometimes that is what happens. AK's are basically in that category. At one point they were serious weapons for me, but I'm pretty sure that time has passed. Because they were serious, I left my personal ones in as issued configuration, since that is what I would have access to overseas.

However, I have recently rediscovered just how good a platform the AK really is, and I have been spending much of my limited free time shooting them. I've decided to put optics on one or two, and see what can really be done with them from 0-500 yards. As such, they are just range toys now, which brings me to the point of this very long winded post!

Has anyone used the Primary Arms 1-6? Seems like a nice package for a daylight only range toy, and may be perfectly suited to the AK. I'm interested to see how accurate the BDC is, as well as the wind/mover holds. If it fails, no big deal, as it won't leave my range, and it's cheap enough to reaffirm why I love NF. :-)

At least one of my AK's is pretty accurate, so seeing what it can really do should be fun.

I have three Primary Arms 1x6 on ARs and two of their 4x14 - one on a Rem 700 308 and one on a 6.5 Grendel AR. I like them and think they are a great scope for the money. I like using the BDC and do not like dialing - I have great results with the PA 1x6 BDC with 5.56 AR and the PA 4x14 BDC with 308 and 6.5 Grendel at the Legion long distance range (800 yards +) when they were available in SW GA. Used the PA 4x14 on a 6.5 Grendel AR and killed an antelope in Wyoming using the BDC.

I've shot my buddies .308 scout with one. Awesome scope for the money. Colors are a little darker, eye box is unforgiving at full power, and long periods of looking through the glass made my head hurt. I'm pretty convinced there's nothing in that price range that could compete. But the strike eagle is almost as cheap, a used mtac is as cheap, and a used bushnell is almost as cheap.

Decent glass. Great CS/warranty. Bright on max setting for daylight. Have not rung mine out on the range. Eye relief is a touch long.

A guy at work has one on an Ar. I have spent some time on it. Seems like a perfect candidate for your app. The 5.56 BDC is really accurate, can't say how it is on any other round. I'm not ready to call it "Duty ready", but for what you're looking for it to do is say definitely.

I do know that the company owners are active on forums and stand behind their products.

Which rifle? How you gonna mount it?

For initial testing, it will go on my NPAP, in an RS Regulate mount. Depending how it does, it may move to a different gun.

So you'll need the 307, AKR and rings of proper height. Horse (RS Regulate's forum name) recommends AGAINST double AKM's with 30mm scopes on his mounts.

Already ordered. They were out of AKR's, so I'm trying the Aimpoint first and the AKR will follow shortly. I was going to put the NF 1-4 on the gun, but since the AKR isn't available, I will just wait and try the PA with it.

No idea what you mean about the double AKM/30mm mount issue.

Some guys were using a pair of the RS Regulate AKM uppers instead of AKR and rings.

SLG- How is the scope working out for you?

I recently got a decent deal on a PA 4-14 and put on a Remington 700 16.5" Tactical in 223. So far I am very impressed with the scope for the money spent. The reticle works as advertised and the dials seem to be fairly accurate, and return to zero. The FFP reticle was a huge selling point as it is impossible to find a scope in this price range with that functionality.

I'd like to see somebody do the box test with a couple PA scopes. They seem to be good glass for the money.
