So, I've been playing around with the idea of carrying a fixed blade in a pocket. With the right kind of knife and the right kind of pocket, it seems very doable.

The most convenient way to set this up for a decent draw, seems to me, would be to have a sheath with a wave-like feature built into it. You begin to draw the knife, the sheath snags onto the edge of the pocket, sheath stays in the pocket while the knife comes out. Problem is, aside from a few one-off customs, I haven't found anyone who makes a sheath like this. Have I missed something here? Does my idea suck in practice? Or what gives?

Another way is to secure a regular sheath to the pocket with a ripcord type setup. This works but lacks the convenience of the waved pocket sheath that could be simply slipped into a pocket.

I've seen a good deal of fixed blades hosted to a RCS pocket shield. Clipped, banded, screwed, etc etc. There's a pic thread on TPI and I think there was one around here.

I have a buddy who makes a sheath like this.

Few things to consider:

Easy to cut your pocket open/pants open when deploying.

Difficult to re-sheath the blade once it leaves the sheath from the pocket (cannot see your sheath in your pocket).

Depending on the pants you wear may or may not work due to non-standard pocket dimensions.

The MDTS/RCS Moduloader Pocket Shield (http://www.mdtstraining.com/moduloader-pocket-shield/) works well for this but lends itself more in practice to business casual and dress attire. They work in jeans too but pocket depth has been an issue on many.

Depending on the attachment you can have a sheath clip to the shield and then clip to the belt but that depends on what knife and what draw/position you're looking for.

Chris Fry has a ton of configurations on his Instagram page. (https://www.instagram.com/mdts_training/)

Shock cord can be your friend.

I just use a regular sheath with the mounting removed and have it attached at the bottom to 550 cord and attached to my belt. Natures the knife is clear of my pocket and body when he sheath is ripped from the knife.....and I know where the sheath is if I need to re pocket it. Carry like this daily.

How do you attach to your belt, and what length of cord do you use?

How do you attach to your belt, and what length of cord do you use?

So you have a loop of cord threaded onto an eyelet in the sheath.

You slide the loop under your belt, then put the knife and sheath through the loop and pull it tight so it cinches onto the belt.

This also works with pants that have d-rings or other attachment points.

Darryl is pretty quick to draw from the pocket too.

I've been using a TDI knife in my pocket for years. I just have the stock sheath on it with the belt slide mounted to it instead of the clip. It draws the same as a pocket pistol from a pocket holster. The knife and sheath are very flat and low profile.

I carry a small fixed blade that has a spring steel clip permanently affixed to the sheath. I started using a Desantis rubbery pocket holster for a small pistol. She sheath clips into the holster and slides into a front pants pocket. The knife sheaths in either direction for right/left hand carry and i just change the position of sheath in the holster to work in either the right or left pocket. While it is very comfortable to carry and quick to draw it is not as easy to re-sheath as a rip cord arrangement.
