View Full Version : Are semi-auto sub-moa rifles a reality?

I'm a total newbie with "precision", so please bear with me...

Are semi-auto sub-moa rifles in 6/6.5-ish stuff reality or hype?

E.g. do people shooting precision competitions rely exclusively on bolt-actions or are there people actually winning with AR-10 platform rifles out there?

I have had numerous sub moa semis. I currently have a few. I know guys who do very well in precision comps using semis, and many of my friends have multiple sub moa semis as well.

Usually, there is a trade off when getting a really accurate ar, but sometimes there is no downside, as long as you are willing to spend the money.

I don't know jack about the competition world, but Steve from Citizen Arms (https://www.citizenarms.com/) seems to produce sub-MOA semi-auto rifles fairly regularly.

It's been a while since I've updated myself on AI's offerings, what semi-auto do they offer?

Agree - Please, let's keep this to semi-auto and 6ish caliber....

No personal experience besides the good things I hear about Aero (especially from voodoo_man), but they are putting out some affordable 6.5 uppers. Need to start getting the price for AR-10 style precision guns lower before I can play.

Lots of 6.5 grendel owners getting sub moa out of a rifle that shoots on the AR15 platform. This thread starter got .25 inch groups at 100yds:

Thanks for all the info.

Opened a new thread: Which would you prefer - bolt action or Semi-auto?

SLG has one (another SME's rifle) that is a legit .5MOA 5 (or 10 round group, I can't remember what SLG told me) rifle. I'm sure he'll chime in here shortly.

FWIW. I am reading a lot in Gun rags and on the internet about the DD5V1. These writers are reporting a lot of sub MOA groups.

One of these showed up at our monthly 600 yd benchrest match in December, and did very respectably......

6.5 Creedmoor & Nightforce 12-42 scope.....it also had a can on the end.

Duhhhh.......well, it almost looks like one.

But then, close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

I really want to get one of these, just can't quite force myself to pull the trigger...

I was trying to remember the name GA Precision. The guys at Modern Service Weapons have written about them before, with glowing reviews (http://modernserviceweapons.com/?p=3647).

Not sure what you mean, I don't have anyone's rifles but mine. If you mean the Bone Frog Larue, it was .5 moa for 3 rds, but then opened up. My Predatober was .75 moa for 5 shots, over and over and over... The barrel weight and contour was completely different with those two.

My wife's M&P-10 is .75 moa for a few rds. Really nice sporting arm, but not a weapon.

I mostly use the 15 size guns now, and have a few that are between .5 and 1 moa, very consistently. Both 556 and 6.5g

No where near a SME, but should be able to get a tObr in 260 Rem soon. They took one to SHOT with recently produced barrel, shot below .25 with factory Corbon ammo.

I have a 16" 6.5G upper from Precision Firearms; easily sub-MOA @ 200 yds with 4 different loads:

Would you mind elaborating on this? I have one and have wondered how it would hold up with heavier use. All I've done with it so far is a couple of matches and a couple of hunting outings

I'd also be interested to hear about the M&P's deficiencies.

For those considering an M&P10, you might want to give this post a read:
