Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum but have been reading a bit and it looks like a very knowledgeable group. I'm looking for an IWB holster for my P30SK and have narrowed it down to the Gcode Incog and the Version 3 from JM Custom Kydex. While I'm not reading a lot about the Gcode here, it appears that JM Custom is thought of very highly. I'll likely be carrying at 4-5 O'clock position and am looking for something compact - JM's Version 3 or Version 3 SL looks really nice but any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I can't think of a better way to say hello than with some pictures:

JM Custom or Dark Star Gear for Kydex.

I'm fond of leather for IWB - Milt Sparks and TT gun leather in particular. Ritchie is ver nice as is PF's own JRC custom.

JRC leather and JM Custom have teamed up to make a high quality hybrid IWB holster as well. I'm very tempted to get one of these for my G17

Hello, very nice pictures and pistol! I do not have the same gun, nor do I have experience carrying behind the hip. But I do happen to have some experience with both holster maker's products. There are many here with much more experience than I, and hopefully some of the will chime in.

I have an Incog holster which I've had for several years, and I think it's a relatively well made holster for mass production. It fits the XDs 9 I carry in it very well, with a very positive "click" retention. I find the belt hook attachment points on the holster a bit screwy but workable and the hooks are very secure. I also like the fact that you can tuck a shirt in behind them, however, it isn't the most inconspicuous as I will explain. The only negative I can really think to list about it is that the holster relies on the offset built into the belt hooks to cant the pistol's grip into your body. This works, and helps conceal the grip of the pistol pretty well. However, as it is pressing the gun against your body, it is also pushing your belt/waistband away from your body. This can make for some strange lumps under your cover garment depending on your build, attire, etc. I suspect this might be even more pronounced at the 4 or 5 o'clock position.

The JM Custom Kydex holster I have is the "George" model for a PX4 Compact. This is an AIWB specific holster, which by the way is how I've always used the Incog. I also have a AIWB single mag pouch by JM as well. I've only had these items for a little over a week now, I ordered them right after Thanksgiving and just received them. As his website points out, he is running right around a two month lead time currently, and he isn't joking.

So, while I've only had the JMCK items a short while I can already tell you the quality and comfort is absolutely superb. The edges are all properly rounded, there isn't a sharp edge or burr to be found anywhere. The retention is positive and adjustable. The belt loops (split hard Kydex in my case) are rock solid, as is the method of attachment. In my opinion, you can tell it's a custom made holster vs. mass production simply holding it in your hand and examining it.

Frankly, I did not think I would be able to conceal a gun the size of a PX4 Compact. This holster must have a little magic built into it, because it practically makes the gun disappear. The appendix holsters offer the option of getting them with a neoprene wedge with Velcro attachment to offer additional "tuck" into the body (same purpose for the offset hooks on the Incog), and it works much better than the Incog design. And since it attaches with Velcro, you can adjust it to best fit you. I do not know of this option is offered on the IWB 3, his site does mention an extra tuck option, but it may be the kind he builds into the Kydex.

I did email John of JM with a question before placing my order (on Thanksgiving day no less) and got a response back in under 24 hours. That was the only interaction I had with him, but it was certainly a positive one. I've read nothing but good things about JM Custom Kydex, and you certainly won't hear any different from me. I highly recommend them.

Anyway, while not directly applicable to your gun or carry position, I hope it's of some help, and welcome to the forum.

Hi Rick, thanks for the warm welcome and for sharing your experiences with JM Custom. It sounds like he has a holster with my name on it.

Desmoface,

If you seek a kydex IWB holster, and if an 8-week lead time is not an issue, look no further than JM Custom Kydex. Between his selection, his customer service & responsiveness, and the quality of his work, Tony just can't be beat.

If you seek a leather IWB holster, I'd highly recommend JRC Customs. Jim's turnaround time is probably in the 12-16-week time frame but he knows his stuff, is highly service oriented, and his work is much a thing of beauty as it is highly functional.

Good luck.

Hi Ubervic,

Thanks for the reply. It looks like I'm going to go with a JM Customer Version 3 SL. Thanks again for the advice.

I use a JM IWB3 with 15 degree cant and clip attachment for glock 17.

I didn't like the SL version when I had one as I seemed to always jam my knuckles into the pull dot and strap when drawing

Hi pr1042, this is great info, exactly what I'm looking for.. How firmly does the IWB3 clip hold the holster in place? Thanks again.

I have to force it on there on an Ares Aegis belt so it's not going anywhere, at least not for my expected uses

I believe someone else went through ECQC with a JM Custom clip holster and didn't have any issues with it coming fof

Awesome; I wanted to thank everyone for all the advice - I took pr1042's advice/experience and ordered the version 3 with the 1.5" clip. Now the wait begins, LOL.

Maybe JMCK "Hybrid"

I really don't like the Incog. It does a handful of things okay, but nothing very well, IMO.

If you are going strong side 3:00-4:30, the JM is a good choice. The hybrid project they are doing with JRC is also snazzy as all get out, if that is your thing.
