Week 148: Big Target AMRAP

Results may be posted until February 22nd, 2016.

Designed by: Gabe White, adapted from a TLG drill
Range: 7 yards
Target: 8" circle, USPSA lower A-zone, 8.5x11" paper, or similar
Start Position: Holster or ready
Rounds Fired: Varies

We're going to practice a live fire drill emphasizing driving the gun on a single, relatively easy target.

Start from the holster if you can. If not possible on your range, then start from ready position of your choice.

Set your par time by adding one second to your typical presentation time from the start position you chose, for the target and distance we are shooting. For example, you are drawing from the holster, and you think you can usually get one hit on a USPSA lower A-zone at 7 yards in ~1.5 seconds - your par time for this drill would be 2.5 seconds.

At the start signal, fire as many rounds into the target as you can. Shots fired after the par do not count, whether they are hits or misses. Record the total number of rounds you fired, and the number of hits scored within the par time. One repetition of the drill might only be a handful of total shots fired. You can do the drill as many times as you want.

Please report the following when you post your results in this thread:

Equipment used (pistol, holster, optional concealment garment if one was used)
Target used
Par time
Total number of shots fired
Number of hits within par time
Anything you noticed

Training with firearms is an inherently dangerous activity. Be sure to follow all safety protocols when using firearms or practicing these drills. These drills are provided for information purposes only. Use at your own risk.

Equipment used: M&P 9mm Pro Series with cheap red dot, CompTac OWB holster under unzipped heavy winter jacket and a pull over fleece
Target used: IDPA paper practice target
Par time: Based on today's previous abysmal performance used a par or 3.2 (2.2 draw plus 1 second)
Total number of shots fired: First run 5, second run 5
Number of hits within par time: First run 2, second run 5

Ran out of ammunition at this point and called it a day (Fired DotW 144, 145, 146 and 147 prior to this). Will probably try this again. Results were better when I "relaxed" somewhat and trusted the sights (dot) and (surprise surprise) ran the trigger smoothly.

G17, OWB no concealment.

Rang it twice with a 2.5 sec par on a USPSA A-zone.

Both runs got 5 shots inside par, with 4 Alphas and 1 Charlie on each.

Equipment used: Gen3 G34, concealed in a Keeper under a big polo shirt
Target used: oval, roughly 7"x5"
Par time: 2.00 seconds
Total number of shots fired: 6
Number of hits within par time: 6
Anything you noticed: It was a Bill Drill, and a pretty good one. Draw was 0.85, and total time was 1.84, clean on a modestly large target. I'm happy with that. The seventh hole in the target is from an unrelated previous drill.

Equipment used: G19 in a blade tech phantom holster at 3:30 under an unzipped jacket
Target used: 8" Circle of IDPA target
Par time: 2.20

I ran this drill 5 times essentially as a bill drill. Every time I fired 6 shots.

1st: 2:14 5/6 hits all in par with first shot going low.

2nd: 2:09 all hits but one out of par 2:28

3rd: 2:08 all hits but one out of par 2:26

4th: 2:17 3/6 hits and one out of par 2:38. I'm pretty sure the first three fired were the ones that impacted high and left of the target.

5th: 2:08 all hits but two out of par 2:47. I had a very sloppy draw on this one.

Glock 19gen4 in a Desbiens #4 at 3 o'clock light carhart jacket for concealment.

Target used: USPSA metric

Par time 3.40

Total number of shots fired 4
number of hits within par time 3

Anything I noticed: after this weeks dry fire practice I was able to pretty consistently get a under 2 sec draw time.
I guess the Ben Stoeger book is already paying dividends.
