Week 147: Mini Presidente

Results may be posted until February 15th, 2016.

Designed by: Gabe White
Range: 5 yards
Target: Three, two inch circles - download target here: http://pistol-training.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/6x2in-circles.pdf
Start position: Shooter's choice, see below
Rounds fired: 12

This is a variation of a classic El Presidente suitable for restricted indoor ranges.

Begin loaded with exactly six (6) total rounds in the gun. At the start signal, shoot two shots to each of the three targets, reload the gun, and shoot two more shots to each of the same three targets, for a total of twelve shots. You can engage the targets in any order. The downloadable target has six, two inch circles arranged in two rows of three. Use one row of three circles for each repetition of the drill you do. (Do as many as you want, just report them.)

Start position is shooter's choice. You can start facing uprange with the gun holstered, as in the regular El Presidente. You can start facing downrange with the gun holstered if you prefer or if your range requires it. You can also start with the gun in ready position of your choice, or benched (loaded or unloaded) if you'd like to work on table starts.

Please report the following when you post your results in this thread:

Start position (holstered and facing uprange, low ready, unloaded and benched, etc.)
Gun, holster (optional), and concealment (optional) used
Number of hits out of the possible 12 (report for each repetition of the drill you did)
Time (report for each repetition of the drill you did)

Training with firearms is an inherently dangerous activity. Be sure to follow all safety protocols when using firearms or practicing these drills. These drills are provided for information purposes only. Use at your own risk.

G19 w/RMR in Fricke holster from pullover concealment.
Start position was hands in fence facing downrange for first run. Hands up and facing up range on second run.
Number of hits on first run 12, second run 12.
Time on first run 14.88, second run 17.34.

I don't think it took me 2.5 seconds to turn around so I am not sure why my second run was so much slower. A guy who is smarter would have figured this out via the timer before moving on. Doh.

G19 loaded and benched. Hands down by my side at the start. (no holster draws at my range)

times were 13.92 and 15.13

I also ran it with my G43, also loaded and benched. Hands at side.

Times were 15.77 and 16.64.

Start position - Holstered, concealed, facing target, hands at side
Equipment - M&P 9mm Pro Series with cheap red dot sight in a CompTac OWB holster under unzipped heavy winter jacket and pull over.
Number of hits out of the possible 12: Run 1 - 9/12; Run 2 - 7/12
Time: 15.52 first run; 19.63 second run

Still getting used to a micro red dot. Pistol started malfunctioning on every round during second run, failed to feed but a tap rack would clear it. Was only on hollow point rounds.
Did not help target was swaying pretty good in the wind throughout both runs.
But no excuses, I just wasn't very good and need to practice a lot more.

Shot on a Thursday 1/21/15
Start: hands at surrender while facing uprange
Concealment: under an unzipped condor jacket
Pistol: G19 in a bladetch phantom holster at 3:30

I shot this five times. I'm a bit frustrated I did not once shoot it clean. It was definitely a bit tougher than the original el presidente. If my math is correct, a 2" circle at 5yds would correlate to an 8" circle 20yds. In fact, my hits and times were quite similar to my past performances on the first string of stage three of the IDPA classifier.

1) 8/12 at 11.57
2) 9/12 at 11.55
3) 9/12 at 13.18
4) 9/12 at 13.20
5) 10/12 at 12.57

Starting position holstered & concealed, normal standing, facing uprange.
Equipment: Walther P99, JMCK IWB holster with 20 degree cant, concealment garments: two thick layers, closed front, drawstroke requires two hands and a snowshovel...

22.16s and 3 misses
21.53s and 3 misses
22.68s clean (yay me, I actually hit something for once! :) )
22.78s and 3 misses

Drawstroke took some time, but oh boy, that was nothing compared to my reloads... And I am slightly annoyed at my misses.

All shot from AIWB, facing downrange, starting from concealment under a zipped jacket.

I really liked this drill and will likely incorporate it into my rotation. It's just easier and quicker to set up than a traditional el pres. Had a few light strikes on the P30, likely due to not being cleaned since Combative Pistol in September.

I tried this on a couple of different days

Then today
String 1 hits 8 time 40.70
I had a bit of an issue with the Crimson trace laser grip which slowed me down today.
I had turned it off but when I transitioned from the first dot to the second one the laser was on and it caused me a little visual confusion.
