View Full Version : What equipment do you carry every day?

What do you carry on a daily basis?
For example: I carry a
Glock 30
Crossbreed super tuck deluxe with j clips
Remington Golden Saber 185 grain brass jacketed hollow point 45 auto

I don't carry any extra mags or lights. I'm just curious to see what everyone carries on a daily basis.

G19 in FIST IWB or AIWB
one spare mag minimum (RCS single pouch), usually two (2nd one in a pocket)
124 gr +P Win PDX1, or 127 grain +P+ Ranger or 124 gr +P HST or 124 gr +P Gold Dot
generally but always at night - Surefire light
a folder, or Crucible or Uzula
rarely a BUG (jframe or G26)

"Everyday" for me includes a lot of days on the job where guns are verboten and whether it's right or wrong, risk of losing my ability to support my family due to getting outed is much higher than getting, er, having to shoot some dirtbag. We are about to move to an area where my assessment of those two risks changes, however.

So, "everyday" I always have, in pants pockets:
Benchmade Griptillian, clipped right front
Streamlight PT-1L, clipped left front
janitor grade set of keys, front right pocket
Gerber Multi-tool (forget which model), in it's pouch, front left pocket
iPhone in otterbox, usually jammed in the top of one of those pockets
Wallet, right rear.
Retractable ID badge holder that is strong enough to double as a garrote? :p

When the shirt comes untucked, I change to a wilderness 5-stitch frequent flier belt, add a HK P30 in a CCC Shaggy at about 12:30, and a DGL reverse cant pouch at about 11:00 with another 15 rd mag of 147g Gold Dots.

It was beat into my head from the very first pistol class I ever took, if you carry a gun you should carry a light and a knife.

I use my knife almost every day. I use my flashlight multiple times per week. My gun... not so much.

That last line, honestly, is why I also think people should EDC a knife, not just for self-defense, I've carried a knife pretty much everywhere for the last 6 years... they're just useful. Can't shoot the loose strings off of something, or shoot an apple into slices, cut rope (Alright... I don't cut rope), etc, they're good to have.

ETA:

Keys, Knife, Wallet, DW CBOB 1911 in a Comp-Tac Spartan, Wilderness Tactical 1.5'' belt, two spare mag carrier from Comp-Tac, cell phone. That's about all the crap I carry.

good point! It's funny, I guess I was to vague when I asked what you carry...I already assumed that everyone carried a wallet, keys and phone.
It looks like I need to add a knife and light to my EDC arsenal. I use a fobus GL4 LH holster and mag carrier for IDPA. I think I need to order a crossbreed mag carrier to do along with my supertuck deluxe.

I have at least one pistol and often a rifle in the car. I have flashlights (mostly Surefire 6Ps) in my desk, coat, and car. I usually have my car key in my pocket and most of my other keys on my desk.

After work and weekends, I drop the 'berry, and most typically add a Lightweight Commander in a Milt Sparks Executive Companion, plus a spare mag in a Kramer or Sparks pouch. If it's chilly enough I'll add a coat, which lets me carry my light and full key set.

Ask and ye shall receive.....

This is the holster I made for it. It looks weird, but it's a holster that keeps teh BUG upright in the side BDU pocket of my uniform pants. Zip the zipper and no one ever knows its there. The wings get caught in the pocket and keep the holster in place when you pull on the gun. One of these days I'll make a refined version of the holster that doesn't look like crap, but it works and that's all that matters to me.

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n5/xpd54/DSC_0104.jpg

Here's the gun. I took it to my brother's shop and got all technical. I set a PM9 down on top of it and took a silver Sharpie and marked where the bottom of the PM9 grip was in relation to the CW9 grip. Then I took it home, unloaded it, and put it on the scroll saw. Left it a little long and then finished it with the beltsander and sand paper. My only Complaint with Kahr's is all the sharp edges, especially in the grooves on the rear of the slide, the bottom corner of the slide and the corners of the slide release. With my Thumbs forward grip it actually tore a bunch of skin off my thumb when I first shot it (I'm used to riding the thumb safety on a 1911). SOOOO, I took the slide to the belt sander and then touched it up in other areaswith some scotchbrite and some sand paper and then put the slide stop on the belt sander to break the edges. Once again, I go for function over appearance. If I ever sell the gun I'll probably have to blast the slide and replace the slide stop, but oh well.

Two extra mags, G17 mags with Glock OEM +2 base pads
A couple of knives, currently a ZT 0200ST and either a Spyderco or a TDI knife on the weak side (or my other strong side for people who get offended by my use of the term "weak side")
S&W 642 either on my ankle or in a pocket, depending on mode of dress
A couple of Speed Strips
Flashlight, mostly an E2e with a TNVC LED replacement head (which came in VERY handy recently when we were out at a Dave and Busters and the lights went out in the entire area during a thunder storm, D&B is a cave with the lights off, especially when the emergency lights fail, which they did, I was the only guy with a light in the whole building, and near as I could tell in the whole shopping area)

I can't carry outside my residence unless I go over to PA, but when I do its:

HK P2000 v3 9mm with Federal 147gr +p HST's
1.5" Leather gun belt(been using a Galco, waiting for my horsehide Beltman to come in)
CCC Looper AIWB(going to buy a Shaggy as soon as he opens up again)
4Sevens Quark 123 Tactical R5 with clip in my front left pocket
Rayban Wayfarers(you gotta look like you're in Reservoir Dogs if you're going to carry a gun :p )

I've been looking for a mag pouch that I'd like. I want leather, with a body shield, but OWB and I haven't found one like that yet. So I currently don't carry a spare mag. With the rash of shootings that Philly has had in the recent 2 weeks, not to mention the flash mobs that were going on over the summer, I will throw my Kahr P380 in my right pocket with a Desantis Nemesis in addition to the P2000 while in the city which is every week for me.

When I'm around the house, I'll either wear the P2000 or the P380. I spend a lot of time in the house nowadays since I'm going to school full-time online. Otherwise the only time I carry is in PA as I mentioned, which will usually last 4-6 hours at the most. Sounds like a lot of you guys carry all day long, literally sun-up to sun-down. My AIWB rig isn't comfy enough to do that, I'll say that much. 4-6 hours seems to be the limit if I'm driving/sitting a lot.

Glock 19 or 17, currently in a Cane and Derby Pardus AIWB, waiting on a Shaggy. Before that Concealco IWB strong side.
Fenix LD10, clipped to LF pocket-great little light, uses one AA and can be set to High>Strobe by tightening the head. My 4-yr. oldhas proven it tough by repeatedly dropping it on concrete.
In LF pocket- wallet and Leatherman Micra I've had forever.
ZT 0350 clipped to RF pocket, Victorinox Pioneer and loose change in the pocket
Spare G17 mag in Kytex holder at 9:00 sometimes. Love the Kytex gear; it's low profile and you can get 2 or 3 of them for the cost of most mag pouches.
Zebra F-701-poor man's tactical pen
EVO 4G on belt,left side
Keys on a carabiner with a little strap thing clipped to belt loop so they hang either in RH front or right rear pocket.

Like everyone else the flashlight, micra and pen get used way more than the gun, though there was a great Simpson's episode about that:cool:
Everything's about to be in total disarray as I adjust to AIWB and the EVO (which I just got as a hand-me-down from the wife). It gets in the way of my spare mag and the Fenix digs into the botton of it when sitting, so it needs to move, probably to the RH side.
Also would love to add OC spray if I can find a good way to carry it, and looking at a small fixed blade to be carried around 11:00 which may or may not replace the ZT folder. Or I may get a different folder and carry it on the left side...or all of the above...or...you get the picture. Maybe I need a man bag.

Aside from the switch to AIWB this spring, I have been carrying the same basic set up in the same place and the same way for 6 years- full size gun, spare mag, light, knife, pen. Once you decide what you need, it gets a lot easier to ALWAYS have it, especially if it's carried the same way, in the same place, all the time.

-Buy the best reviewed, highest quality, best designed stuff you can find.

-Become intimately familiar with it. That is, play with it, fondle it, have it around you all the time.

-Train with it. Take a class or two, and beat the shit out of what you're (potentially) betting your life on. Make sure it works, and works well.

-Quit switching shit around. Find what works, and stick with it.

If you find something that drastically improves your shooting/stabbing/writing/whatever, adopt it, but don't confuse novelty with improvement. Make sure of what you're switching to.

If you find something that drastically improves your shooting/stabbing/writing/whatever, adopt it, but don't confuse novelty with improvement. Make sure of what you're switching to.

I couldn't agree more.

Always carry a Streamlight PT 1L and a Benchmade griptilian regardless of weather. Gun and mag vary by season mostly so that they work with the clothes that I wear. In the wintertime I move up to the G17 and a holster that gives me a little more space off my body so I can get a good draw on the gun while wearing thick gloves. All pistols are charged with 124gr +P Gold Dots.

Summer (hot weather) -
G26, IWB with Comp-Tac MTAC
Spare g19 mag bianchi IWB magpouch

Fall/Spring (cool weather) -

G19 w/ Streamlight TLR1, RCS Phantom OWB holster sometimes IWB in the same MTAC.
1 spare mag, comptac OWB mag holder

Winter (Cold to very cold weather here in New England)-
G17 RTF w/ TLR1 OWB in a comp-tac belt holster
2 spare mags , comptac mag pouch

Keys wallet phone. etc.

This is probably a lame answer, but it's my truth. Since I am rather new to the daily carry concept, I'm spending my time and limited money on improving my pistolcraft. I do plan on incorporating a light in the near future though.

Edited to add; Like doctorpogo below, I do have lights within easy reach at home, vehicles and in my briefcase. Just not on me.

I'm not usually far from one. I carry one when I run, there's one in the stroller, one in the desk, one in each car, etc. I've also never found a pouch I completely loved with a tailcap light.

I have nowhere to put it. I know I should carry one, but I think it's just north of the threshold of an acceptable amount of stuff to cram in my pockets. Nothing is ever going to get mounted to my belt other than a gun or a mag. It's just never gonna happen. Too much of a pain to get on and off, and the amount of time I spend out at night or in darkened areas is close to inconsequential.

Nice gear. Looks like a Dale Fricke horizontal mag pouch that you've got there. I have one and like it a lot---it hides well, and drawing the mag (along the horizontal plane) seems more natural and requires less contortion than that from an upright pouch.

Gun guys get very nerdy and unrealistic when it comes to stuff. They put all these self imposed rules on themselves and others, which end up being stupid and unpractical. You can tell this with all the "EDC" videos everyone does. The fact you even have a acronym for the stuff you have with you everyday is retarded. They have a gun,a backup gun, extra mags for the 1st gun, and extra moon clips for the 2nd. They have a flashlight, a weapons mounted light, back up batteries for both, and huge smart fone in a Mr Middle Age phone holster, extra backup prepay fone incase the 1st one takes a dive, a couple non lethal options, a key fob spy camera, and AR waiting in the truck, and god know all the crap hanging off of it. Because you know, one is none, slow is smooth, but somehow also fast as well, bring all your friends who have guns etc etc etc. People don't even notice your glock hat. Nor do they care. That shoot me first vest dosent mean anything to them.Only to you, because you shoot IDPA and cruise the youtubes checking out other people everyday batman belt.

I usually keep my EDC stuff fairly simple because I can't stand a lot of crap in my pockets. A H&K P30 carried AIWB, spare mag, car/house keys, cell phone and a simple CRKT or Spyderco knife. I have a very small LED light on my key ring that runs on a single AAA. I picked it up as SWAG from a work convention a few years ago and it seams indestructible.

Dude. You forgot the pocket-sized book of 2A quotes.

Seriously, though, I am always in the process of figuring out what-all goes in my pockets. For example, I'm trying to work out a way to carry my paper and electronics in a waterproof way, so I can be impervious to the constant SoFla rain. A little planning goes a long way, but no way am I trying to have a plan for every conceivable situation. Knife and light are useful enough, often enough, that I keep them on me. I switch wallets and phones when I find a lower-drag option. That's all I carry, but it's funny how with a little creativity I seem to be more prepared, day to day, than some buddies who cart around 10 pounds of specialized stuff...

I think this is definitely a phase many go through - well, some don't seem to come out the other side, but still...

I personally tend toward the geeky side of things that interest me and enjoy researching new things and am always looking to improve both myself and, as I can, the gear I carry. The balancing factor for me is usually practicality with budget being a close second. The practical side of me thinks it far more important to know the gear I carry and be proficient with it than to constantly chase what seems "better"... and the budget-minded part of me really prevents me from buying things just because they are shiny and new :-) Now if I really had money to spare I probably would collect a lot more guns and knives but I don't think it would affect what I carry so much.

Aside from the normal stuff (wallet, keys, phone, pen) I carry a flashlight, two knives (one small pocketknife for general use that will soon be replaced with a multitool of some sort and one larger knife for defensive purposes that stays out of sight), my gun and a spare mag. That being enough for me is based on the personal details of where and how I live, work and play, though, and I would not suggest it is the right mix for everyone.

That said, I think it is a bit overstated to say that only other gun people notice how you dress. More people are being exposed to gun culture now and people do notice brand names. On the few occasions I have worn branded clothing it was noticed and commented upon in a couple of cases. Because I prefer to downplay the fact that I carry, especially around people I do not know, I choose to dress as nondescript as I can. I also think it true to say that the more gear you carry the more noticeable you risk making yourself...

LOL ... well, okay, I understand your point. I'm just saying I prefer to not communicate I am carrying and from my experience wearing certain kinds of clothing does increase the odds of people at least being curious. Maybe not many people, mind you, but all the same I choose not to risk it. Being asked point blank if you have a gun on you by a new acquaintance is disturbing IMO.

Put simply, I don't want to be singled out - by fellow gun folk or the less noble - and not just because I carry. I'd rather blend in.

Me personally, I'll admit my reason for not wearing 5.11's, riggers belts, ect is vanity. Plain and simple. I view wearing tactical clothes on the street as the gun version of pocket protectors, or having your underwear labelled with your initials. Or the people that drive around with all sorts of racing auto parts stickers on their Hondas without any actual upgrades. It's got nothing to do being "made".

I carry a 5.11 "push pack", or whatever they call it, for a purse.

The awesomest thing I have in there is the pack of Wet Ones antibacterial handwipes, which are used pretty much daily. These are closely followed by the "camper-sized" roll of Charmin, which has made me The Most Popular Girl On The Roadtrip more than once. Both have seen far more use than than the AirLite .44 Special in the gun compartment.

Also, the hank of paracord has come in handy a few times.

Good ideas, I recently gave in and got a north face messenger bag as a man purse. I won't carry a gun in there but usually have an extra mag, flashlight, iPad etc. Etc. - I do try to carry the minimum on my person: gun, mag, phone, light, keys, knife, wallet- anything else to get through my tactically intense day of a 10 minute commute and sitting at my desk goes in the bag, which I may or may not take with me to lunch

I'll play!

-Wallet. Usually with some money, unless my wife raided it while I was sleeping
-Cell phone
-Streamlight PT1AA. I'm looking at upgrading at some point in the future, but so far it has served me quite well.
- SOG Spec Ops with a VG-10 blade. My birthday is coming up and I'm under the impression that I'm getting some high flying Benchmade as a gift
- Gen 4 G19. Vickers slide release, GFA, Ameriglo I-dot Pro's. Glockmeister butt plug. A modified extended mag catch is probably in the short term future
- X Concealment Model C OWB kydex holster, for the 19.
- 2 Spare Mags in an X concealment double mag carrier, 124 gr GD +p
- Wilderness instructor belt, 5 Stitch, in one of varying colors
- Ruger LCR in a pocket holster, front left pocket
- Speed strip of 135 Gr GD short barrel .38, usually in a tuff stuff belt pouch. Also have an IHF one, too
- Glock 26, Alessi ankle holster, inside left leg. Gen 3 with the Idots, vickers stuff, etc.

The lineup will change sometimes depending on manner of dress. If I'm in formal dress, I'll break out the MTAC and one of my beltman belts, and I'll drop one of my spare mags in favor of a comptac IWB pouch. With one or two minor exceptions, I've figured out how to stash almost all of the above on my person no matter what I'm wearing, so the belts and holsters may change, but everything else doesn't. The only time things drastically change is when I'm in the Gym. Then it's the 26 in a Kangaroo holster and the LCR in a pocket, no reloads.

It's more somewhere between a tangerine and a small orange, actually. :o

Comes with a free hernia. I'm just sayin...... :D

EDC for me is wallet, knife, cell phone, J frame, speed strip, keys and flashlight. Tools further needed are in the dog box on the truck.

From my perspective, that actually looks like a belt slide holster. I don't think the end is tapered enough towards the barrel to be a good pocket holster.

(Totally a joke, saw this on another site and had to share)

For me it's the usual assortment of wallet, phone, sunglasses, knife, multitool, owwie kit (old Altoid tins are the most useful packaging, ever) and (if my slingpack is with me) IFAK. Between being a shooting noob and having had a hectic year, I still need to do my VA state approved class for a carry license to add the big kid stuff to my EDC list.

I kinda thought that might be the case, but is looks similar to the Alessi pocket holster design, just now quite as deep.

Updating with my EDC.

Since my Power steering pump and belts decided to sabotage themselves, I've put a new gun on hold.

But, I keep a Ruger LCP in a pocket holster in the car (So when I get out of work), and I carry that pretty much everywhere, I received a ZT 0350 today in the mail, which isn't as big as everyone implied it was, that keys, cell phone and a wallet is about the extent of what I'll carry.

I like the Ruger LCP for pocket carry, It's something I can get out to the car (I can't carry at work), and go to college (can't carry at school), and everything inbetween, I can pickup and throw in the pocket easily.

If I'm out getting the mail, getting coffee creamer from the store early in the morning, whatever. I don't have to go put on pants, jeans or shorts and a shirt that accommodates a handgun a 1.5'' belt, and a 34 ounce Commander length 1911.

I think a full size gun and a single spare magazine are about the only things I'd add, in AIWB.

BOM asked why we don't carry lights. Frankly... I wear a dress shirt and tie to work, and nice pants, in a weapons free corporate office (I carry my knife there, because I frankly just don't care, but, the clip isn't on the outside of the pocket, maybe I'll feel the same way about guns there someday, but, we'll have to see, I need a better pocket holster), I already carry a pile of stuff around everywhere, a Light would be nice but it's just more belt real estate, to be completely honest about it, that and I can't conceal it at work, and 5 days a week I know I'm going to end up somewhere I can't carry a gun every week. Wait 6 days a week. Church, School and Work, so, I carry more these days with an Ruger LCP than I ever have.

Oh, and I better not carry on the Saturdays I'm not at work (I work every other Saturday, but I go to school on the Thursday's I'm off from work, so, 7 days a week every other week, I will without a doubt be in a no-carry zone), in a restaurant that serves alcohol. I mean honestly, I make an effort, I put on a full size gun when I can, but other then that, it's pocket carry alot of places.

So a pen light might be an option, and a handgun out in the car that goes in the pocket or under a leg when in the rough side of town, but that's why I don't carry a light.

I'd like to get something like a Glock with a weapons light on it to leave in the dash.

BWT - Re lights - I have had great results with the Stream light ProTac 1AA a single AA battery LED light. It is a slimmer than my old Surefire e1 - great for shorts and a tee shirt or those times I have to wear a suit at work .... The priice is resonable as well.

If I am going to work where weapons are verboten:

1) Dell Latitude E6410 and/or Precision M6600, each in its own briefcase.
2) Small Sebenza
3) Phone
4) Keys for vehicles and residences
5) Wallet with government documents, credit cards, AAA card, debit card, insurance cards
6) Money clip with some cash
6) Employee badge and encrypted USB thumb drive on the company lanyard.
7) Safety glasses with detachable side shields, spare set of prescription glasses, prescription sunglasses, and eyeglass lens cleaners
8) Tubes of aspirin, acetaminophen, and ibuprofen
9) Checkbook
10) HP 12C calculator
11) LED flashlight
12) A few pens.

Outside of work, I dump the laptops and the lanyard and replace them with a pair of Glock 19 pistols. Yes, I carry more stuff at work. Sad but true.

I carry either an M&P 9c or an LC9 in holsters I made myself. It varies between OWB and IWB, depending on what I wear and how much I need to conceal.

Streamlight 110 Lumen flashlight
Gerber assisted opener knife.
Extra mag occasionally.
