View Full Version : G2 Civic Duty?

The G2 RIP was junk, but the Civic Duty loading looks like it *might* be a decent round, although I don't know how it would do on auto glass.

I have not been able to find any "real" data on it, but some guy shot some water jugs with his 9mm and it penetrated fully 2 jugs, and into the 3rd, and expanded "picture perfect".
I think the small total frontal area (large expansion not withstanding) might well allow it to penetrate reasonably well, much like Barnes bullets out-penetrate conventional bullets of equal weight by 20% or so.
Thoughts?
*ETA, G2's site says 9-10" penetration. But what if someone took this design, and made the "shank" a bit longer, petals a bit shorter?

Then it would be pretty much like the Barnes TAC XPD 115-grain +P bullets...

It looks a LOT like Ranger T-series minus the lead.

FWIW, water is NOT a good indicator of how a bullet will perform on meat. 124gr +P Gold Dots will expand to almost three-quarters of an inch in our water tank. I've looked at close to a dozen "meat bullets" (recovered from bodies, dead or alive) of that pedigree -its what the local PD issues- and none of them have even come close to that much expansion.
For that matter, I've looked at several Ranger-T (147gr and the 127gr +P+) meat bullets, and they don't look like your photo either. They DO look like after I fired same in the water tank.
Not trying to rain on your parade; but it is what it is.

I'll pass. Low penetration, what happens if one of those petals doesn't expand right and it veers, if it catches bone, etc?
Someone else can beta test with their butt on the line. I'll stick to proven.

What do these offer the end user that a vetted load does not?

Magic bullets some guy shot into jugs of water. I don't know how this can be taken seriously.

Just curious, how do gold dot .223 look compared to the ones I've shot into water? Those I've seen from deer look similar fwiw.

Haven't seen one of those. In fact, I can only recall seeing a few meat bullets of that caliber, period. The last ones (not Gold Dots) came from the gourd of a middle-eastern-type hostage taker (see, _I_ can be politically correct too!). They pretty much blew up/disintegrated during their travel through the brain pan,; all the examiner had to compare was fragments.
Around here, anyone who hunts deer with a .223/5.56mm would be viewed with suspicion. If it ain't 7mm RemMag or bigger, Billy-Bob and Bubba will accuse you of being a nancy-boy…:D

I know where you live, and those deer are just as tiny as they are here. Through-through a nice sized hole are my results. No need for compensation with a 7mm :)
Have a picture of a .357SIG that came out of a pit bull. It looks like a bullet I shot into water. Let me see if I can find it.

Not sure if I annoyed you, but what I was referring to is that the Cletus virus thrives here. Guys have those little deer run off due to a poorly-placed shot, and naturally assume they need a bigger, more powerful gun.
In re expansion results, we had one 124gr Gold Dot, dug out of the thoracic cavity of a deceased miscreant, that was a classic mushroom and could have been used in an advertisement for bullet expansion. But, again, it had not expanded nearly as much as those shot into the water tank.
.
Do you guys have any examples of 147gr HST in "real life" examples? We always see the perfect flower of death pictures online. I'm heavily invested in the cartridge because of how reliable and accurate the load is for me.

The two bullets I have seen that have hit real people looked like the four layer denim test bullets. Same-same with all of the 124gr +P Gold Dots that I have seen taken from people who were on the losing end of one of our OISs.

Yup, service caliber handgun bullets removed from people at surgery or autopsy tend to look a lot like 4LD testing--almost like there is a good reason why we emphasize tests using 4LD....

Great! Thank you both, that's all I needed to re-confirm. I posted in one of the long range accuracy threads and noted several five shot, sub 4" groups from 50 yards with my Glock 26. Very happy with the performance and lack of recoil.

Because it is another excuse to shoot water jugs, which is fun even if it isn't very scientifically reliable?

Yes, but that ammo is, like, several dollars per cartridge. Expensive fun…;)

If I'm ever in a position where I may be mobbed by a group of violent water jugs, I may consider this round.
Otherwise, I'll stay with what I have. I have no desire to spend a few dollars per round. And I'm not about to risk my life or the lives of those I am charged to protect, by using ammunition who's greatest attribute is marketing hype. Call me old fashion, but I'll stay with rounds that have been vetted by ballistic experts and not by marketing whiz kids.

Be prepared for the most likely, and somewhat prepared for the most unlikely.
